further than Gorm's, a new pizzeria that

opened this April in Yakuin. The owner,

interior shop proprietor Seiichiro Iwamura,

travels to Denmark several times a year. There

he met Gorm Wisweh at his eponymous piz-

zeria, and the two struck up a friendship that

led to the opening of the Fukuoka shop. What

impressed Iwamura the most about Denmark

was its comfortable yet refined atmosphere.

SWEET SNOW, DAIMYOThis compact kakigori bar in Daimyo proves

that size isnt everything. It has a cool vibe,

cool tunes and a neat menu of eight origi-

nal kakigori, made expertly before your

eyes. The shop was opened this June and

the owners are already setting up a second

shop in Nishijin. So what can you expect

from Sweet Snow? Milky, soft shaved ice

with tasty toppings. Their most popular

item is the mango kakigori made from a

block of mango flavored ice AND topped

with mango. Double yum! Eat-in and take-

out menus available. The eat-in kakigori is a

larger serving and includes a cup of tea, the

takeout is a bit smaller, served in a disposal

cup, and cheaper. The shop opens at noon

and stays open until 3am serving drinks

New Cityscape Taking Shape in RopponmatsuFive years have passed since the Kyushu

University Ropponmatsu Campus relocated

to the Ito Campus in Nishi Ward. Some roads

and parks have been completed on the 6.5 ha

former campus site, and major construction

work is about to begin (scheduled to be com-

pleted in 2018). The Fukuoka High Court, Pub-

lic Prosecutors Office and Bar Association

will relocate to the site, and JR Kyushu will

build a multipurpose facility which will house

the Fukuoka City Childrens Science & Culture

Center (popular for its planetarium and due

to open in 2017) and the Kyushu University

Law School. Local residents will be able to un-

wind along a 10m wide greenway encircling

New Anti-theft Motorcycle PatrolThis June the City began using motorcycles

with flashing blue lights for crime preven-

tion patrols in an effort to reduce bicycle

and motorcycle thefts, and other crimes.

The patrols are concentrated in Tenjin and

the areas around Hakata Station, Daiichi Uni-

versity of Pharmacy, Kyushu Sangyo Univer-

sity, Fukuoka University and Seinan Gakuin

University. The mobility of the motorbikes

makes it easier to patrol narrow side streets
