Quote of the Week
‘Choose to be optimistic. It feels better.’ - Dalai Lama
Charleville Performing Arts Festival It has been terrific to see (and hear) the students prepare for their upcoming performances for the festival. This Friday 28th August, Oscar, Campbell, Alex, Alice, Zoe, Eva, Ava, Abbey, Isabel and Sophie will head to Charleville to participate in the ensembles section. The ‘Musical Meatants’ and the ‘Ellangowan Ensemble’ are sounding better and better each week and it is a credit to Mr Mulhall and the work he continues to do with the groups. I would like to thank Harry for the time and commitment he gives to our school and we acknowledge the work that he does with all of the music students. Thank you Harry – we are lucky to have you as part of our team and we know that the students will certainly get a lot out of their performance experience on Friday. Can’t wait to hear how they go! Premier’s Reading Challenge It's nearly time to complete the challenge! The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual nation-wide initiative for Queensland school students from Prep to Year 9. The Premier's Reading Challenge aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning. In 2019, more than 2.31 million books were read by more than 168,000 Queensland children and students from 937 schools and 386 early childhood centres. We will look to finalise reading lists this Friday to allow students to receive their certificates for all the great reading that they have done. Students will need to return their reading logs to their class teachers – we can’t wait to celebrate the reading achievements of the students! Assessment As we enter the last weeks of the term, all students are busy working through assessments in their different subject areas. As always, it is important that students attend each day, and to ensure assessments are completed in time for reports, please make sure your child is coming to school every day over the coming weeks. It is great to see the students producing work of a high standard as they tackle their class assessments. Term 3 Reporting Reporting and communicating with parents aims to build a school-parent partnership to improve student learning. This week, at the P&C meeting I tabled a new reporting format for discussion that would see some changes to our current practice. The following format was accepted and will be effective from this term moving forward: Term 1 – Interim report Term 2 – Parent/Teacher interviews (early in the term); end of Semester 1 report Term 3 – Parent/Teacher interviews (mid term) Term 4 – end of Semester 2 report We are confident that this format gives multiple opportunities to share key conversations (both written and in person) between our school and parents. Written reports will still contain information on the student’s level of achievement, behaviour and general conduct. If families have any concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school and please remember that myself and all our wonderful teachers are available for check-ins any time – our doors are always open!

Positive Behaviour for Learning
(PBL)
BE RESPECTFUL BE A LEARNER BE SAFE
Behaviour of the week: I use equipment appropriately.
This week in our Positive Behaviour for Learning lessons, the students are learning to use equipment appropriately. This positive behaviour expectation has a Be Safe focus and it is relevant to all areas of the school. During class, students will discuss how to use equipment appropriately. They will also act out how to use this equipment and generate discussion around the importance of being safe with equipment.
Year 4 - 5 - 6 Class - Liz Lindsay Happy Week 7! Where has the term gone? This week is
another busy week in the 4/5/6 classroom. We are continuing
to analyse author style in preparation for our English
assessment. In Maths, we are working hard on problem solving
involving the four operations and building our understanding
of number properties. During our literacy time, we are
continuing to conduct reading tests and are working hard on
our spelling and vocabulary. As we enter this busy assessment
period it is vital students are attending school daily and are
participating fully. Our Premiers Reading Challenge ends this
Friday. At this point in time, we have 50% of students who
have completed the challenge. Finally, good luck to the legends
performing on Friday. We know you will do an amazing job!
Have a lovely week.
Year 2 - 3 Class - Jess Jones Happy week 7 everyone! This week, students are continuing
their planning for their English assessment. Everyone has been
super creative so far with their procedures and I am excited to
see each presentation. In Maths, we are looking at three digit
and four digit numbers and representing multiplication and
division. Another busy and fun week ahead. Have a look at the
photo below of our biscuit decorating last Friday. Students
created a procedure first and followed the procedure to
decorate their biscuits. Have a great week everyone!
Kindy - Prep - Year 1 Class - Kara Dawson The end of the year is going to be here sooner than we think!
The Preps and Year 1s will start planning their final character
descriptions later this week and into the start of next. We have
a lot of writing ahead of us! In Maths, we are still working on
our counting sequences and using them to help us count
collections quickly. This Friday, the Kindies will be creating rice
cake bunnies as a part of our cooking program this week. Have
a good week everyone!
Students of the Week I speak politely.
