Augie Merasty Survey Questions Task

Relating to any aspect or detail of the Augie Merasty Project 2020F.

Each group member must generate four questions that they want answers for.

Any four relevant questions will be acceptable.

These four questions must be shared with the rest of the group.

Questions must be written in a form that could be used in a survey. (This is the

hard part.)

Review the Survey Tool for examples of how to best present different kinds of

questions.

It is very important to write survey questions carefully. Short and simple

questions are easiest to understand, and are more likely to be answered. Long

and complicated questions are harder to understand, and are more likely to be left

unanswered.

It is very important to test a survey with a small group before releasing it to the

public. This trial run will reveal any problems that need to be corrected. This will

ensure the questions can be understood and answered properly.

Augie Merasty Project

EdCentre Course Alignments: 2.6, 3.5, 3.6, 4.2, 6.2

Question: How many marks is this worth for ELA?

Answer: At least 10%, if all parts are done. If you want to really go after it as a

project to make it happen, 20% seems reasonable. Wow me, and it could be 30%.

This could be done as a group project. So, everybody would have to do something,

but nobody would have to do everything. It would have to be fair in terms of how

much time each person is putting in to the project.

Let’s talk about this further, on Monday, November 9.

Public Service Announcement Script

“Hello, Sandy Bay, Pelican Narrows, and Deschambault Lake!

I’m here today with a Public Service Announcement about learning opportunities

for all community members in the Sandy Bay – Pelican Narrow – Deschambault

Lake region.

There are lots of online courses available for people who are stuck at home due to

the COVID-19 upset condition. Just check out your friendly neighbourhood

college: Northlands.

Online courses can be fun and interesting – as well as some work, to be sure. You

will have other people online to chat and laugh with while you are learning,

though, so it is not as boring as sitting around doing nothing all day long. And the

fun parts make the work that much easier. But remember, anything that is worth

doing involves work, right? So, be prepared for that.

We signed up for Adult Basic Education online courses with Northlands College, in

Creighton. We all got free computers as part of this. And we were given lots of

help in learning how to use them, too. It was confusing using the computers at

first, but after a little while we all got the hang of it. We’re still learning lots of

new things, but it is getting easier with each passing day.

We’re all learning things that will help us in our lives in many ways, including for

work. Some of it is just plain fun. We already have our own blogs, for example,

and we’re doing community surveys online. Once we figure out how to get

advertising on our blogs, we’re all going to be gazillionaires. (Cha!)

We’re also working on projects. Some are group projects, and some are personal

projects. There were lots of options with these projects, so everyone could find

something that was right for them.

One of our group projects is to get a copy of the book The Education of Augie

Merasty provided to every family in the community. This book tells the story of

the Residential School experience that so many of our family members went

through. It is a sad story, but it is important for everyone to hear this story, to

learn from it, and to never forget it. We are grateful to Augie for writing this book

with his friend, David Carpenter, and sharing his story with us.

Another group project is to establish a Cultural Learning & Youth Centre in Sandy

Bay. This is a big project, for sure. There are many parts to this. But one piece at

a time we are getting things done and making it happen. Each Group Member is

contributing to this project, in various ways. We are really looking forward to

having our Prime Minister at our opening ceremony. (Hey, we dream big!)

We do need your help with both of these projects, though. We need everyone

listening to do our online surveys about these projects so that we have the

information we need to make them happen. And please tell your family and

friends to do these surveys, too. Your answers are the information that we will

present to our Prime Minister, and everyone else that we approach about this

project.

Please help us by taking some time today to answer our survey questions. Your

answers will help us prove the interest in our books and Cultural Centre projects.

This evidence will be used when soliciting financial support for these projects from

government agencies and other organizations, including from our Prime Minister.

To do our online surveys, please go to this webpage:

Charlie Chaplin and Rollie Totheroh filming The Gold Rush in 1925, at Donner

Summit. “Rollie Totheroh was Chaplin’s cameraman for 38 years, a tenure

unheard of in the film business then or now. Their relationship, which began in

1916 ended in 1953, when Chaplin was discouraged from returning to the United

States by a Federal Bureau of Investigation paranoid over communism at the time.

Chaplin, seeing the writing on the wall, went into self-imposed exile in

Switzerland.”
