The Victoria Symphony will make a Splash this weekend as Victoria’s Inner Harbour is transformed into an outdoor concert stage.
One of the largest annual symphony events in North America, the crowds – up to 40,000 residents and visitors – will head to town early Sunday for the annual event featuring the symphony orchestra on a floating stage. Afternoon

Selections encompass a wide range of styles, from Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 to local composer Tobin Stokes’ Inner Harbour Over-ture and Schifrin’s Theme from Mission Impossible. And of course, Spalsh wouldn’t be Splash without Tchaikovsky’s
1812 Overture, complete with bells, cannons and fireworks.
The Victoria Symphony Splash Family Zone returns from 1 to 5 p.m. with kid-friendly activities, including the always-fun Victoria Sym-phony Instrument Petting Zoo, while the Splash opening act – The Midnights – begins at 4 p.m.

WHEN: Monday, Aug. 6, from 12 to 9 p.m.
WHERE: St. Ann’s Academy National Historic Site, 12 to 6 p.m. and Beacon Hill Park’s Cameron Bandshell from 7 to 9 p.m.
West Shore residents have their own BC Day party in the works, thanks to the folks at Westhills.
The first-ever Westhills BC Day Celebration comes to City Centre Park Aug. 6, an event aimed to sup-port emerging B.C. artists while also celebrating the West Shore.
The free event runs from 12 to 4 p.m. and includes the musical talents of a whole host of local artists, including Kuba Oms, Karly Summers, Rukus, Mindil Beach Markets, The Archers and Jessie Roper.
In addition to terrific music, families will also find plenty of activities and special treats, including face painting, balloon animals, bouncy castles and more.
Victoria isn’t the only one marking a milestone this August.
To celebrate the City of Victoria’s 150th and the United Way of Greater Victoria’s 75th anniversaries, both are joining forces to present the City United! Anniversary Celebration and Concert Aug. 6.
Bring the family and spend the afternoon on the grounds of historic St. Ann’s Academy from noon to 6 p.m., where all ages will delight to live music and entertainment. Afternoon performances include: Musqueam hip-hop artist Christie Lee Charles; singer/songwriter Lola Parks; Celtic fiddler and singer Sarah Tradewell; “Family of Folk” The O’Brien’s; Energetic youth musicians Animal Astro-nauts; local music icons Jon & Roy and more.
More performances will fill the St. Ann’s Academy Auditorium, including: The Great Giffoni Magic Show; children’s entertainer Major Conrad Flapps;
swing jazz singer Cynthia Davis; the Victoria Story-telling Guild and others.
Enjoy crafts and cooking demonstrations with the Island Chef ’s Collaborative – learn what to do with the delectables from the on-site farmers’ market – not to mention physical fun with Victoria Recre-ation and Sportball.
Have some fun at the song-making stage, enjoy art displays, chapel tours and the United Way’s “Pass-port to Possibility,” a variety of food vendors and free bicycle valet parking.
The party moves to Beacon Hill Park’s Cameron Bandshell from 7 to 9 p.m. where Juno Award-win-ners “Digging Roots” will headline a free concert featuring their unique blend of blues, roots rock and hip hop. Critically acclaimed local independent musicians Jon & Roy open the show.

WHEN: Aug. 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 11
WHERE: Beacon Hill and Windsor parks
Athletes from around the world will converge on Beacon Hill and Windsor parks Aug. 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 11 for the Victoria International Six-a-Side Cricket Tournament.
Teams from Australia, New Zealand, England,
the U.S., Victoria and elsewhere will play a fast-paced, six-player game (instead of the usual 11 players), producing spectacular action in matches that last just over an hour.
Hosted every two years since 1986, the tourna-ment is this year part of the City of Victoria’s 150th birthday celebrations – appropriate given cricket’s long and rich history here. Games will be played at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria and Windsor Park in Oak Bay between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. with the playoff rounds Aug. 11. Food and refreshments will be available on all game days.

Victoria Symphony makes a SplashWHAT: Symphony Splash
WHEN: Aug. 5. Family Zone open from 1 to 5 p.m., with music start-ing at 4 p.m. and the Symphony at 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Victoria’s Inner Harbour
The Victoria Symphony will make a Splash this weekend as Victoria’s Inner Harbour is transformed into an outdoor concert stage.
One of the largest annual symphony events in North America, the crowds – up to 40,000 residents and visitors – will head to town early Sunday for the annual event featuring the symphony orchestra on a floating stage. Afternoon
musical entertainment leads up to the evening’s highlight: the live symphony perfor-mance beginning at 7:30 p.m.
