You need to be mindful in plac-ing your furniture to create a well-bal-anced outdoor room. Styling your out-door space you need to consider traffic patterns, view, overhead protection and ambience. Today, outdoor furniture choices consist mainly of dining sets and conversation sets. Dining sets are easy to arrange on a patio. On the other hand, conversation sets require more thought, just like designing your living room or great room. Once you have placed the furniture, usually a sofa or loveseat, then
add in a coffee table and end table. Outdoor liv-ing room sets are usually that, just sets. They are too matchy matchy. Adding a different side table will create more visual interest. Don’t forget to add in an area rug as it brings unity to the space and anchors the conversation area. I would even recommend using them indoors espe-cially for homes that have pets or small children.
Your space isn’t com-plete unless you add outdoor accessories. Outdoor accessories include lanterns, dishes, vases and side tables. Try add-ing in a Chinese stool. It is my indoor/outdoor go to piece for extra seating and I also use it as a small end table. I was just at the Coombs market and they have re-cently received a huge shipment of such stools in blue and green. My preference is white as it is versatile. Homesense car-ries Chinese stools, but you usually need to purchase them at the start of the sea-son for a good selection.
Add texture to the space with throws, and baskets. Above all else, a successful outdoor space is all about the ambience.
