We Need Your HelpSPONSORS CLINIC

VOLUNTEER LAWYERS NEEDED

The nonprofit Sponsors holds a monthly legal clinic, usually the first Friday of the month, 2-4 pm. University of Oregon law students assist with intake, and a volunteer attorney provides advice and guidance to clients who have recently been released from Oregon correctional facilities. The clients bring a range of questions, frequently related to their post-incarceration obligations, debt, and family law. The clinic has a volunteer attorney, but is in need of at least one more attorney to rotate months. Email Janie Morgesen, [email protected], or Jennifer Geller, [email protected], if you are interested or would like more information.

The LCBA Family Law Section and AFCC will not be hosting CLEs during the months of August 2019 or October 2019. We hope you enjoy your August and that you can make it to the OSB Family Law Conference in October!

Guardian Partners was pleased to attend the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation (CCUIF) award ceremony on June 26 at Seven Feathers Convention Center and to accept a grant of $5,000 to fund their abuse-prevention program in Lane County. Founded in 2013 and expanding to Lane County in 2017, Guardian Partners trains volunteers to interview people with impaired mental capacity and ensure quality care is provided by their guardians.

“People placed in Guardianship are vulnerable,” says Marc Kochanski, Executive Director. “They might have a developmental disability or dementia or a brain injury. Guardianship is a powerful relationship, which can open the door to mistreatment, intentional or otherwise. That’s where Guardian Partners volunteers come in, helping to ensure Protected People are safe and thriving.”

CCUIF Executive Director Carma Mornarich said, “The work of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation strengthens the fiber of southwestern Oregon. Assisting, preventing, enriching, and lessening difficulty are what the CCUIF is about. These grants are a hand up for so many in our communities.”

To volunteer, donate, or learn more about the work of Guardian Partners, please visit www.guardian-partners.org.
