LOS ANGELES (AP)— Longtime “SaturdayNight Live” cast memberTaran Killam says he “wasnever given a reason why”he was being let go aftersix seasons on the NBCprogram.
Killam and fellowcast member Jay Pharoahwon’t be back when “SNL”returns this fall for its42nd season, the networksaid Monday.
Killam told Uproxx inan interview publishedMonday that he was plan-ning on making the up-coming season of “SNL”his final one before beingtold that his contractwasn’t being picked up.
“I was never given areason why, really. I canassume until the cows
come home,” he said.Killam speculated
that the production sched-ule of a film he’s directingand starring in, “WhyWe’re Killing Gunther,”may have played a partbecause two months ofpost-production work onthe movie would have co-incided with “SNL’s” pro-duction schedule. What-ever the reason for his de-parture, Killam said he has“no gripes” about his timeas part of the comedy in-stitution.
“I set out to be on‘SNL’ and I got to do thatand I did very well. And Ilove and adore and willforever have close ties andtight bonds with the bril-liant, smartest, funniestpeople I’ve ever met in my
life,” he told Uproxx.Killam performed
several celebrity impres-sions on the show, includ-ing Brad Pitt and DonaldTrump — although theTrump role went to “SNL”announcer and former starDarrell Hammond duringthe past season.
Pharoah was also onthe program for six sea-sons and had the covetedrole of impersonatingPresident Barack Obama.He was also known for hissend-ups of Kanye West,Jay Z, Shaquille O’Neal andothers.
