TRANSCRIPT
Dear Residents,
It was lovely to see everyone’s reaction as they entered our new “Dreamland Cinema”, at the Grand opening. Enjoying a glass of champagne with a tasty treat as they took in all the features of the room. Hearing comments like ‘beautiful Décor’ & ‘what comfortable seats’ I think it’s fair to say, everyone was impressed!
Our first screening of the film ‘Sunset Boulevard’ was a great success. Receiving letters of appreciation and gratitude from those that had the pleasure of
attending the film. It’s wonderful to have such positive feedback.
New flooring and painting for the Bay and the upstairs of the Sands is set to commence in coming weeks. Notices will be displayed with details once everything is confirmed.
Don’t forget my door is
always open. If you have
any concerns, even if you just
want to pop in and say hello,
please do so. God bless Bianca Ivancic ESM

Having the children visit from Good Start Child Care centre, was a wonderful way to begin the month. The children brightened up the morning with their hugs and giggles. Showing the residents their Reading and writing skills, they also made a big thank you sign that is displayed on the Park notice board. They had so much fun they will be returning on August 11th.
The residents did a fantastic job with the decorations for Christmas in July. They were hard at it during the art and craft activities. The place looked
like a winter wonderland for our celebrations.
The only thing missing was Saint Nick, and maybe the salt and pepper. (Which did arrive in a nick of time). All our dining rooms were crowded with everyone enjoying a hot Christmas lunch, yum yum!
July was also the month for celebrating Bastille Day, the French National Day. Currently we don’t
have any French residents but we still had some fun celebrating, with some delicious French pastries! Along with a quiz, testing out our knowledge of France.
Muriel Smith was delighted to enjoy her special treat for being residents of the month. Muriel has a soft spot for McDonalds, especially their hot Apple pies. Muriel enjoyed a special lunch with a special delivery service from Lisa. The two enjoyed chatting and having a good joke during the luncheon.

AUGUST BIRTHDAYS!
WELCOME
BLAKEHURST AGED CARE CENTRE
Allen was born on Monday 6th December 1920. Growing up with his younger brother and two sisters, was a little different to most families in Rockdale. Allen’s family lived at the police station. His father being the constable who looked after the station and he remembers his mother cooking for the prisoners. Later Allen joined the army, heading off to Milne Bay in PNG. After contracting Malaria he was sent to a couple of different hospitals. Finally recovering and heading to Borneo, where he was stationed until the war ended. After the war Allen received a book with a range of apprenticeships and courses to choose from. Allen decided he would like to give sign writing a go. Well, he
must have enjoyed it, and from what I hear was pretty good, as he continued sign writing until retirement. While Allen was waiting for a sign writing job to open up, he worked at Selfridges in Rockdale. Little did he know, Lorna, his now wife of 67yrs, worked at that same store. The two married, at St David’s church, the first weekend after Allen started is job as a sign writer. The two eventually built in Oatley where they lived for 53 years. Starting a family with Lorna was a wonderful part of Allen’s life. Having two children Wendy & Wayne, they now have 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Holidaying all around Australia, Allen’s most enjoyable trip, but not Lorna’s, was a family camping trip to the Central Coast in 1973. Allen has enjoyed many past times, including Tennis, Bowls, collecting stamps and coins, attending the speedway to watch the cars and bikes. Allen is still deciding on what he would like as a gift from the facility, maybe he will indulge in one of his mentioned interests.

As we headed out to The Nuns Pool in Cronulla, I
wasn’t sure what to expect. Will we be dining
around a pool? I had heard a few stories from some of my companions,
but I still wasn’t sure what I would see.
When we arrived the location was picture
perfect, right across the road from the beach,
with a beachy décor and relaxed atmosphere.
The lift served its purpose, which I was glad
to see. The staff were very friendly and
attentive.
Unfortunately the menu was limited, but the
meals were delicious. Prices were slightly above
average, though I was told the wine was on the
pricy side!
I really enjoyed my visit
to The Nuns Pool, I also
had a little history lesson
on the name.
In 1924 the sisters of
mercy bought two
properties in Cronulla.
Building their convent &
residence on one,
naming it Stella Maris.
The sisters would bathe
within a small rock
formation, in front of
Stella Maris. Hence the
name, the café is not in
the exact location but
very close by.

JOKE OF THE MONTH
A husband and wife were driving through Louisiana. As they approached the town, Natchitoches, they started arguing on how the town was pronounced.
They argued back and forth, then they stopped for lunch.
When the husband approached the counter, he asked the waitress, “Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us?” “Would you please
pronounce where we are, very slowly?”
The waitress leaned over the counter and said “Maac Doonn-allddss.”
Do you have a special occasion
you would like to celebrate
within the facility.
If so our private dining room
is the perfect location.

The Lake Isle of Innisfree By William Butler Yeats
I WILL arise and go now, and go to Innisfree
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made: Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glad.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow, And evening full of the linnet’s wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep hearts core.
