Student Ministry Kickoff

AWANA News

God is moving in His church and in our community! His activity is His invitation! As the summer comes to a close and we begin our fall activities, I want to invite and encourage you to pray and ask God how and where He wants you to serve! One way to discern where He may be leading you is to attend the Ministry Fair on Sunday, August 19! Various ministries in our church will have a table set up with information to share with those who have questions and interest in their ministry. Some of the ministries are: AWANA, GA’s, Children’s Ministry, Acts 1:8, Food Pantry, Heart 4 Schools, Men’s and Women’s Ministry, etc! Ephesians 2:10 says, “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which He has prepared in advance for us to do.” That means that you have a God-assigned, God-ordained ministry, purpose, “work” that only you can do!

If you have questions, I would love to talk with you, pray with you and help you know what your “work” might be! “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now…” (Philippians 1:3-5)

Immeasurably more! Ephesians 3:14-21 Pastor Lee

SHAKE IT UP! is a mission event for GA's in 1st thru 6th grade. This event will be September 22, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be an exciting day of hearing missionaries, making a craft, playing games, participating in a service project and getting a glimpse of the places that we will go in Girls in Action this year. Connie Maxwell Children's Home will be our location as we

travel around the world experiencing fun, exciting sessions which will help us to know what is happening in missions. You do not have to be a member of GA's to attend. Early bird registration opens August 1st and is $10 per person, after September 7th registration is $15. I am so excited for our GA's to be a part of this event. Please contact Sondra Kucklick at 843-834-1228 if you are interested in going. We will need the money turned in by August 20th so we can make our registration. We will also need some parents to go so we can have transportation. Please contact Sondra for this as well.

Also GA's will start back for the fall on September 5th (Wednesday). We will be “shaking it up” as we do missions and learn about different countries and missionaries.

I want to take this time to thank everyone who was involved in our commu-nity events August 4th and 5th. The Second Chance Ministry Yard Sale was a great success with a lot of people coming here to receive clothes, food, school supplies, and other donated items. Thank you for contributing to this ministry and for serving those in our community. We also had a great opportunity to touch our community through the invitation from Velocity Air Sports to come to their block party and tell people about Deer Park Baptist Church. Several church members came out and interacted with the people attending the block party and we provided face painting for the children. Our 2nd annual prayer walk also went very well on Sunday evening. 20-30 Deer Park members came and spent time prayer walking the church, Charleston Southern University and A.C. Corcoran Elementary School. This served as a great reminder to me that everything that we do as a church must be covered in prayer. I know that God hears the prayers of His servants and will answer those prayers according to His will, plan and purpose. In Revelation 3:8 Jesus tells the church at Philadelphia that He had set an open door before them that no one can shut. He also told them that He knew that they had “but little power”. When Jesus opens doors for ministry we must go through them and we must depend on His power, not our own. I pray that He continues to open doors for every man, woman, and child to have multiple opportunities to hear the life saving message of salvation. Thank you for your commitment to go through the doors that Jesus opens. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday morning in Sunday School at 9:45 and worship at 11:00. I Love Being Your Pastor! Stephen

Missions Corner

CDC has a few openings for two year olds. Contact Cindy Watts (843-834-0697 or [email protected]) for more information.

Do you love to sing? Is God calling you to share the gift He’s given you with others? Join our Celebration Choir on August 15th at 6:30 PM when we resume practice! We’d love to have you!

During the Month of August the GA's collect gifts for a select group of North American Missionaries. The missionaries use these items to replenish ministry supplies, purchase items for ministry centers and minister to people in their communities who need to hear about Jesus. The GA's August Missionary is Cathy Tisher. Cathy is a chaplain in Oklahoma City, who serves as a self-funded full time missionary in nursing homes through a ministry she started in 2003 named "CALLED TO CARE, INC". The mission of her ministry is to provide spiritual and emotional support to residents in care centers. Most of the residents in the place Cathy serves are on Medicaid. Many of them are without any family or do not have families who visit them. Cathy often encounters those who are very needy physically and spiritually. The gifts given show them she cares and many times lead to an opportunity for Cathy to share the gospel with them. Listed below are things we will be collecting. They can be dropped off in the mission’s corner. Men's crew cut white socks Women's short ankle socks (non-skid bottom) Clickable ink pens (none with tops) Giant print word search/activity books We will be collecting them for the month of August. A donation to help with postage would also be appreciated. Thanks so much for your help.

Have you thought about being involved in ministry but not known what to do? Here’s your chance to find out! Join us Sunday, August 19 in the Fellowship Hall after the service to find out more about ALL ministries at Deer Park! Pizza & drinks will be provided!

See what God’s doing and join Him!
