Faith Formation Sign Ups for CCBC

5PM-6PM. Sign-ups are for grades 1-8, this includes First Commun-
ion and Confirmation Classes. There is a fee of $10 to offset cost of
materials. Classes will be Sunday morning 10AM-11AM at St. Pat-
rick's in the basement. Please call Heather Locklin at 518-353-0112
with any questions.
From Deacon Brian
In the front of entrances of our churches you will find copies of
“The Word Among Us” for your use. This publication has the read-
ings for daily and Sunday Mass, medications and helpful articles to
help deepen your spirituality. I would invite you to take a copy and
let the Word of God dwell even deeper in your lives. This is a great
for young Mom’s and Dad’s trying to keep the faith in busy and
challenging times. It’s a great resource for any looking to deepen
their relationship with God. If you know of a friend, family mem-
ber, or someone who can’t get to Mass and would benefit from a
copy, please feel free to pass it on with our prayers.
Pastoral Planning Update
As you recall in February of 2018, we submitted to the Diocese
our “Pastoral Plan” for the parishes we serve. Representatives of
our four parishes met for a dozen meetings discussing how we
would meet the pastoral needs of our parishes served by one
priest. The committee overwhelmingly concurred when this
happened, we would move to three worship sites:
St. Francis of Assisi, Constable
St Patrick’s, Chateaugay
St. Mary’s of the Fort, Fort Covington
On July 22 the following request was made to Bishop LaValley:
St. Mary’s and St. Joseph’s merge to form One Parish. Leaving
us with Three Parishes:
• Catholic Community of St. Mary’s & St. Joseph’s
• Catholic Community of Constable, Westville & Trout River
• Catholic Community of Burke & Chateaugay
A request in the same letter asks for permission to “relegate to
sordid but not profane use” the following worship sites that have
not been used for Sunday worship since 31 December 2018.
• St. Joseph’s, Bombay
• St. George, Burke
• Our Lady of Fatima, Westville
Relegation means the churches will be permanently closed and
no longer used as a place of worship. They cannot be used for
funerals, weddings, baptisms, or any celebration of Eucharist.
Father Tom and I have been in planning mode since our arrival
in 2015; and the planning will continue long after we are gone.
These are difficult decisions and come after many consultations
with trustees, parish and finance council members, parishioners
and our transition team.
Bishop LaValley will consult with his Presbyterial Council on
October 9, 2019. If this request is granted, we will move for-
ward with St. Mary’s/St. Joseph’s planned merger. Closing
masses will be offered in all our churches slated to close with
Bishop LaValley presiding.
Please keep this process in your prayers and let us support one
another in the grace and peace of Christ our Great High Priest.
In Christ,
Deacon Brian, Pastoral Life Coordinator

Adirondack Storyteller: Bill Smith and Fiddler: Bill Woodcock
The Fort Covington Adult Center is proud to present Adirondack Sto-
ryteller: Bill Smith and Fiddler: Bill Woodcock on Sunday, Septem-
ber 8th at 3:00pm. Join us for an afternoon of Bill's delightful stories!
Bill Smith is known throughout the Adirondacks and beyond as a
master storyteller and balladeer. He delights audiences everywhere
with his repertoire of humorous tales that he learned from his father
who was a logger, hunter and trapper and songs and poems that were
taught to him by his mother. You will laugh your head off at Bill’s
tall tales, step back in time with his descriptions of country life in the
old days, and get nostalgic when he sings.

August 18th: Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus tells us that he has not come to bring peace, but rather divi-
sion. At least we may see it as division, because we have such a
superficial concept of peace. We think we can have peace by simp-
ly whitewashing over our differences, by simply being tolerant or
trying to ignore the things that bother us. But that is not the peace
of Christ. Peace comes from recognizing the Truth, working hard
to work through our differences, and truly loving others in our dif-
ferences. This is not easy, and we cannot do it on our own. We
need the fire of the Holy Spirit to burn away those things in our
lives that keep us from the Truth of Christ.
