Attention EMEs and Lectors:

The August schedule is “live”

and available on the MSP

website, as a link to MSP site

on the Parish website and

printed copies in the Servers’

Sacristy. I plan to run the

September schedule the week

of August 24. Please send me

all time-off or special requests

by Sunday, August 23. All

ministers have done a

wonderful job with adapting to

our new routines for mass.

Thank you to all ministers

for wearing their masks

whether mass is celebrated

indoors or outdoors.

All ministers have done an

outstanding job of helping our

masses to be as safe as

possible. Each ministry has

modifications to their duties in

order to follow Diocesan

mandates. Thank you for your

kindness and consideration of

all who attend mass.

For those who attend the

outdoors mass, would you

kindly consider wearing a

mask when the ushers or EMs

are in front of you? They are

required to protect you by

wearing their masks when they

are performing their duties.

Thank you for your

consideration.

Nothing can ever come between us and the love of God made visible in

Christ Jesus our Lord, Paul assures us. Today the Lord calls us to eat

with HIm. He is so generous and overwhelming in hospitality that there

are twelve baskets (one for each of the Apostles) left over for the

nourishment of the church throughout time and space. The nourishment

we receive from the Lord is not only food and drink, but also food for

divine life. Welcome to the table of the Lord. RSVP. Text, Philip J. Sandstrom, STD © 2001, OCP. All rights reserved.

Now is the time to register for 2020-21 PSR! If you have not already done

so, we ask you to register your children as soon as possible so we can

begin to communicate with you as decisions are made. And we hope to

make our decisions early this week! The PSR registration form is available

online at sjvmentor.org or you can register by phone. Please call the Faith

Formation Office if you have any questions at 440.255.0600 or email

[email protected].

Be assured that PSR will be happening for the 2020-21 school year! We

will do everything possible to keep our families safe and at the same time

help the young people of our parish grow in faith. Our plan will definitely

offer an enhanced distance/home study program, and we are investigating

the best time to start our in-person PSR program at Lake Catholic.

Information will be communicated as we develop our plan and prepare to

begin on September 13th in some way.

Invitation letters have been mailed to Confirmation candidates for the

2020-21 preparation class. Candidates are asked to meet with a

designated member of the pastoral staff in July or August for an enrollment

conference as instructed in this letter. These sessions provide a great

opportunity for us to get to know the class, and we look forward to them! If

your 9th grader is eligible and you do not receive a letter, please call the

Faith Formation office at 440.255.0600 or email [email protected].

Our 2019-20 Confirmation class will tentatively be confirmed on Sunday,

October 25, at the 12:15 pm Mass by Bishop Marty Amos. First

Communion celebrations have been tentatively rescheduled to the

weekend of September 26 and 27. We will have one large group

celebration at 10 am on September 26. Families are also able to choose

the 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday, September 26 or the 10:30 am Mass on

Sunday, September 27 to celebrate in a smaller group. Another option is to

choose to receive First Communion at any weekend Mass during this

summer. If you have not already contacted the office with your choice,

please do so as soon as possible. The details and any instructions for

these sacramental celebrations will be provided at a later date. To choose

a date or ask any questions, please contact the Faith Formation Office at

440-255-0600 or email [email protected].

First Communion interviews were put on hold during our stay at home time,

and we will resume those at this time for all who still need to do so. If you

are uncomfortable coming to the office, we completely understand and will

work with you. Please call Laura at 440.255.0600 or email

[email protected] if this is the case.

PASTOR’S PAGE

Dear Parishioners,

On July 12, we selected the winners of the

Summer Raffle at the end of a tail-gate picnic on

the parish grounds. We had the raffle and the

picnic in place of the annual summer festival which

had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19

pandemic. I am happy to announce that the car

raffle went very well as did the tail-gating picnic.

Donna Callaghan was the grand prize winner,

Gene Kopan was the second prize winner and

Jean Dowd was the third prize winner. All the

winners are members of the parish and all were

happy to be winners.

You and your fellow parishioners sold $103,959

worth of raffle tickets to your family and friends. I

believe that has to be a record amount of tickets

sold and I am so very grateful to all of you for

doing what you did to make the raffle such a great

success. I remember asking you earlier in the

summer to do the best you can in buying and

selling tickets to help us make up for the loss of

not having a summer festival this year. You

definitely came through and I truly appreciate your

hard work and generosity. We also took in $4,697

at the tailgating picnic on the evening of the raffle.

When we paid our expenses from the evening and

the expenses associated with the raffle (prize

money, printing and postage for the tickets), we

were left with a net profit of $84,740. A four-day

summer festival takes a great deal of time and

effort on the part of so many people and the net

profit typically is about $125,000. What a blessing

it is for our parish and a credit to you that we made

68% of that amount with the summer raffle and a

four-hour picnic! God bless all of you and thanks

be to God for His continued help. Without the

summer festival, however, we did miss out on a lot

of fun and the valuable opportunity of inviting

neighbors, friends and former parishioners to

check out what a great parish we have. Hopefully

we can have a great summer festival next year.

Speaking of

God’s great

blessings, I

wanted to let

you know that

our former

seminary

intern, Alex

Spenik, will

be ordained

in early

August as a

transitional

deacon. Due

to the COVID

pandemic,

the ordination ceremony is a ticket-only event

which is limited to immediate family. Please keep

Alex and his classmates in your prayers this week.

Alex will serve as a deacon at Saint Mary Parish in

Painesville and he has one additional year of

study prior to his ordination to the priesthood in

May of 2021. I plan to invite Alex to the parish in a

few weeks so that he can serve as a deacon and

homilist at one of our weekend liturgies. It was a

blessing to have Alex at the parish a few years

ago and I know he will be a blessing to our

Diocese as an ordained minister. Please continue

to pray for an increase of vocations to the

priesthood and the religious life. If you know of

someone in the parish or in your family who you

believe would be a good priest, don’t hesitate to

bring up the idea to them. God often works

through us to call others to ministry. The

Diocesan Vocation Office is sponsoring a BBQ

with Seminarians on August 19 at the seminary for

men who have considered the possibility of a

vocation to the priesthood. Call me or one of the

other priests if you would like to attend. The

evening will include the opportunity to talk with

seminarians and priests, to attend Mass, and to

have a good dinner as well.

You likely heard that the annual Catholic family

festival, the FEST, will be a “distant” one this year

due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be live

streamed this year and you can participate from

the comfort and safety of your own home starting

at 3:00 on next Sunday, August 9. There will be

nine national Christian artists/bands who will come

together with amazing songs and an inspiring

message of hope, peace and the call for all of us

to be one family of God. The FEST@Home will

conclude with an inspiring Mass at 8:00 pm,

followed by an awesome fireworks display. Check

it out and share the information with your family

and friends.

Our All Saints Task Force to develop a re-opening

strategy for our parish elementary school has

been meeting for the past four weeks. I am

grateful to Katy Rankin, our new principal, and the

members of this committee who meet for a few

hours each week at the school to reflect on and

discuss the hundreds of pages of material made

available to us from a wide variety of sources on

how to best welcome our students to our school in

the fall and to keep them safe. The plan continues

to develop and we do the best we can to make

prudent choices, with the help of God, as we deal

with the vast amount of material which is available

to us. I do find myself confused at times with

information which frequently seems to change and

as I hear or read conflicting comments from a

variety of experts. I pray to the Holy Spirit for

wisdom and understanding to do the right thing, as

did Solomon in last week’s first reading at Mass,

and I pray daily for an end to this pandemic which

has wreaked such havoc in the lives of so many

people. Please join me in prayer for the many

administrators and educators who need to make

decisions on how to best educate our children

during this difficult time. I know that the Lord will

not leave us to face these tough times alone.

This bulletin shares some of the information about

to All Saints re-opening strategy on page 8. More

information is available on the school website.

Please also check on page 11 to see how you can

“adopt” a safety shield for a student at All Saints,

and check page 10 to see how you can support

the 20th Annual All Saints School Ladies

Luncheon. The committee has worked hard to

develop a way to conduct this important fundraiser

for the school in a way which will keep everyone

safe. There are two options as to how you might

participate in the event. Check out the information

and consider attending.

The summer edition of the

parish newspaper,

TIDINGS, will soon be

delivered to your home.

Thank you to Carolyn, Mike,

Dale and Chuck for their

contributions and to the

parishioners who offered

reflections on the impact of

COVID-19. This Tuesday is

the feast day of our patron saint, John Vianney.

May he ask God to bless us! Fr. Johns

EDUCATION & FORMATION

ALL SAINTS SCHOOL OF SAINT JOHN VIANNEY

All Saints School Reopening Plan Overview

The All Saints School Reopening Plan represents the culmination of months of discussion and

planning. It considers the input of our school stakeholders, including parents, teachers, administrators

and the community as well as guidance from the governor, the Ohio Health Department, the Centers

for Disease Control, the Ohio Department of Education and the Diocese of Cleveland. Importantly, this

plan respects the role of parents in making the best choices for their children’s education and family

situations.

All Saints School will be offering in-person instruction with detailed health and safety guidelines to

students who are able to attend All Saints School five days a week. We will also offer a remote learning

option for our K-8 students who are unable to attend school in-person.

For our students and staff who will be returning to All Saints School for in-person learning, our

commitment is minimizing possible risks associated with COVID-19 to the fullest extent possible

while simultaneously providing a positive and enriching learning environment.

We plan to do this by implementing multiple layers of protection during the school day that maximize

student and staff health.

All Saints School Layers of Protection:

1. Before School Student and Staff Screening

2. Increased Handwashing and Facility Sanitization Protocols

3. Face Coverings

4. Physical Distancing

The All Saints School Reopening Plan outlines the first steps as we prepare to reopen for the 2020-

2021 school year. While it is impossible to reach agreement with all of the decisions and policies set

forth within the plan, we pray we can all support one another as we move forward with the common

goal of continuing to offer the highest quality, Catholic education for all students in our community with

safeguards in place. We hope that by offering an in-person and a remote learning plan, these will best

meet the needs for all of our stakeholders while establishing realistic, safe procedures.

COMMUNITY NEWS

ADOPT A STUDENT AT ALL SAINTS BY PROVIDING A

SAFETY SHIELD: We are hoping that over 200 children

(K-8) will be returning to their classrooms at All Saints

Elementary School in early September. Social distance will

be maintained in the classrooms and children will wear face

masks. We will also provide an additional way to keep our

children safe by giving each child a safety shield at their

desk. Among other things, this will allow the children to take

a “mask break” several times during the course of the day in

addition to the time during which they eat lunch.

If you would like to “adopt-a-child” by providing this safety shield for him or her, you can

do so with a $25 donation. Your name will be listed on the shield as the donor and each

school day will begin with a prayer for an end to the coronavirus pandemic and a prayer

for the person who purchased the safety shield. You may specify the student you wish

to “adopt,” e.g. your grandchild, relative, neighbor, etc., or you may simply say to use the

donation to provide the shield to any student who needs one. Simply fill out the form

below and place it in an envelope along with your $25 donation. If there are donations

remaining when all the shields are purchased, we may use those funds to purchase

thermometers for use at the school. You may “adopt” more than one student. Thanks

in advance for your support of the parish elementary school!

Thank you, Gracias, Merci

Beaucoup, Danke, Grazie…

Thank you to all of the people

who have been helping to

disinfect the church after each

Mass. If you are able, please

join these volunteers after the

indoor Mass you attend to

assist with the cleaning tasks

that are required such as

disinfecting each pew/seat

used, cleaning bathrooms and

entrance and exits.

With enough volunteers, these

tasks are complete in less than

fifteen minutes.

Thank you to all of the Festival

Core Committee and

volunteers who helped with the

Raffle ticket drawing/ Tailgate

Party. It was a very safe and

successful way to minimize the

financial impact of canceled

fundraising activities. The

committee hopes that we will

be able to have our usual

Festival next year. Here are

the Festival Core Committee

members that worked with

Fr. Johns to plan and

implement this fun event: Joe

Manning, Sue Manning, Ali

Manning, Tom Manning, Diana

and Kurt Winters, Dave Koons,

Joyce Ristau, Julie Slattery,

Connie Frustere, Ric Koenig

and Maureen Kraizel. Also,

thanks be to God and

Fr. Kline’s intercession—the

weather was perfect!
