determine the exact date of these said disasters. As the story unfolds you are introduced to seemingly angelic beings, whose appearance were of a dark demeanor. Further on in the movie the man makes contact with his father, who is a minister, and they share some scripture together about the end of times that they find themselves faced with. Ultimately, at the end of the movie it turns out that these angelic beings were really aliens. They even come down in a sort of half spiritual, ghostly fashion that would still make people believe they were angels. The beings arrived with many technologi-cal vehicles in the shape of great wings. The effect and emotional feel of the climatic build- up does well to bring the viewer close into a “visitation” on screen. As the finality story pans out, the audience learns that the beings had a plan all along. They planned all the natural disasters and even intended

to start the human race over again on a “new planet” flaunting a tree

that resembled what could be the tree of life. (Revelation 22) What’s more, the aliens led their chosen people around with black stones, which is quite the antithesis of what the Bible tells us about the white stone. (Revelation 2:17) This is the sleight of hand that penetrat-ed my heart. I remember leaving the movie with a, “I can’t believe that!” feeling. I remember think-ing that this movie would lead a lot of people astray, especially those with no firm exposure to the Word of God.

I can picture some people saying something like, “So what’s the big deal? It’s just a sci-fi mov-ie?” That may be so, and I have no problem seeing it as just that, but what if it’s something else? There is no doubt that Satan would love to get the whole world, or at least as many people as possible, to believe that all angels or demons were just aliens. This “slow seduc-

tion” into the idea of angels or demons as aliens is just the sleight of hand and cheap trick that I have seen come sliding into our culture. It’s a theme that has rooted deep into our psyche. Now don’t get me wrong. I love sci-fi mov-ies. However, we as Christians have a responsibility to stand on the complete Word of God and be very careful not to allow things to be added to or taken away. The answer to this predicament may not be to stop seeing these movies, for to do so may bring about igno-rance. What we need to do is to be aware of the trickery that has come upon the lost. We should learn to turn Satan’s attempt in leading people astray to an opening, intro-ducing them to the truth of God. When Satan tempted Jesus, he used

scripture, but only half truths. Jesus combated him by speak-ing the whole truth. (Matthew 4) We must do the same in these times. Don’t be fooled by what is placed in front of you, but rather remember that

there is always another side to what seems to be going on. May you always seek for yourself the truth that is in Christ, who is the Word of God. (John 1:1)

5-AAmerica’s Good News

Reported by The Fly On The Wall Brentwood, CA Just when one thinks that the Contra Costa Minister’s Confer-ence (CCMC) couldn’t possibly get any better....it does. The monthly luncheon at The Nines in Brentwood seemed especially charged on June 24th as the near capacity crowd applauded, cheered and gave a standing ova-tion to the keynote speaker. The program began with an exuberant prayer from Pas-tor Jason Younger of Lighthouse Christian Center of Pittsburg. When he prays, you know that he is touching God. Pastor Younger then led us in The Pledge of Allegiance. Pastors Tyrone and Susan Holmes, who have become audience fa-vorites literally rocked the house with their version of, “A Move of God Is On Its Way.” When they deliver a song, it takes on a life of its own. They had hardly begun when the cheer-ing started and performed the song with passion and emotion. Pat and Ron Reagan welcomed the crowd and acknowledged minis-ters in the audience along with other VIPs. Terry Thompson of the Life Legal Defense Foundation, brought the gathering up to date regarding the arrest of Rev. Boyl in Oakland for peacefully demonstrating in front of an abortion clinic. Mr. Thompson, a Christian attorney who has dedicat-ed his life and skills to defending Christian persecution actions for free, hopped up to the plate to defend the devoted pastor. The keynote speaker was an excellent choice. Captain Jacqueline Vaughness-Smith , who is with the Salvation Army Church in Antioch, made a lasting impression a couple of months ago when she gave the closing prayer for CCMC, a prayer that electri-fied the audience. She is a woman with a glow. Severe arthritis restrictions had her in a wheel chair, but when she started to pray, it was obvious that her relationship with God overshadowed the inconvenience of the chair. Nor could that chair rob her of the joy of The Lord which constantly radiates from her face. What an inspiration! After opening with a song, that exhibited her mellow, soothing voice, Captain Jackie told of her life in New York as an executive with Macy’s. She became involved with a Gospel singing group. She had been raised Catholic but had slipped away from the church. The songs she sang with the group triggered something that was in her all along. She totally dedicated her life to God and when she retired from Macy’s in 1990, she embarked on a new career as an officer in The Salvation Army. She al-ways had a heart for the downtrodden and can now devote the rest of her life bringing ease to those in need. Captain Jackie is a treasure. Ron Reagan gave a call to action and Pastor Linda Vogelgesang of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Antioch gave the closing prayer. Pastor Vogel-gesang is a close friend of Captain Jackie and serves on the board of The Salvation Army. Ed. Note: The identity of The Fly is still a mystery.

Coach James Hodgins, Liberty High School

James Hodgins was born in San Jose California. He attended high school in San Jose, lettering in football, basketball, and track. James went on to play college football at San Jose State University for John Ralston. Lead-ing his team in touchdowns and sacks his Senior year, James signed with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent. In 1999 James was on the Rams Super Bowl championship team. He played 4 years with the Rams and ap-peared in 6 playoff games and 2 Super Bowls, before signing a lucrative free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Though injuries struck his career in Arizona he managed to play 4 years there before moving on to finish his career with the New York Jets. In his 9 year career James led the way for some of the best running backs in the history of the game such as Marshal Faulk, Emmitt Smith, Curtis Martin, Amp Lee. While he had a very successful career James experienced many trials on and off the field. His injuries along with other life struggles made a significant impact on his life. Today he attributes his character and strength to trials he faced in the NFL and his belief in God. James is married to Stephanie Hodgins and they have 3 children; Isaiah, Isaac, and Imoni. They live in Brentwood, California where James works in finance. James is also the running back coach/ offensive coordinator at Lib-erty High School in Brentwood and he serves as the Chaplin at Sutter Delta Hospital.

Marla Williams, Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Marla Williams, the daughter of a minister, grew up in Florida and was enamored by the ocean, every tree, playground and ball field she could find. Marla played NCAA Division 1 Soccer at Stetson University where she had her first experience with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She interned with professional soccer for the women’s Carolina Courage in the fields of Athletic Training and Strength & Conditioning. Marla then spent the next 5 years teaching, coaching and being the FCA huddle coach at Lee County High School, which was then the largest public high school in North Caro-lina. In 2007, she joined the staff of FCA and participated in the Chaplain Training Program at Auburn and Clemson Universities. Now Marla is delighted to join the staff of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as their new Bay Area Director. In her own words, “I am passionate about the work of FCA because it combines two of the greatest forces for influence ever: sports and faith in Jesus Christ. The big-gest faith and life lessons I ever learned were on the playing field or in the context of competition. Likewise, I don’t believe I will EVER fully compre-hend the influence I had as a coach. To get to work for FCA is a humbling and overwhelming undertaking when you start to consider the ramifications. The decisions made in High School and College truly shape the rest of a person’s life. We get the opportunity to speak into the most formative years of that time frame. Not only do we get to invest in students, but in student-athletes…people of supreme influence. During their eligibility, student-athletes have a tremendous platform from which to live out the Christian walk and even proclaim it in words. Afterwards, they go on to live lives of influence, some of them even as professional athletes. I cannot even imagine the ripple effect sent off by one student-athlete sold out for Christ in high school, college, and afterwards. We need men and women of integrity who can stand up and be role models for our youth. We get the outrageous op-portunity to pour into these young peoples’ lives and train them up to fulfill their God-given mission. For such a time as this!” Marla Williams can be contacted at [email protected] or 864.637.9264. America’s Good News 6-A

by Rev. Austin Miles Often it is someone who has unexpectedly come and gone out of our lives. We later think, “Could it be?” Then at other times, there is no doubt that we received a visitation. Angels are amongst us, some more subtly than others. Sometimes a later second look suggests the answer to the question. One man in particular verified that angels are amongst us. His life was never the same after his encounter. Dan “Pappy” Kerr reigned in the circus world as a very beloved clown, not only to the audiences he appeared before, but also by his fellow clowns in ‘clown alley’, that special area backstage where the clowns congregate, dress and prepare. He was the ideal person to work with and to be around. His mood was always up, he never spoke bad about anybody, never complained, and could cheerfully adapt to any situation. He regularly

went to church as the circus criss-crossed America and certainly lived a life consis-tent with his Christian teach-ings. There was no question that

he loved The Lord. One day someone mentioned to him how great it was to work with him since he was so easy going, so thoughtful and willing to help others. “I haven’t always been this way,” he responded.”In fact I had a pretty wild life...drinking...cuss-ing...carousing...getting into fights.. I was terrible.” “What happened to make you change?” Pappy pondered the question for a moment, then began to relate an amazing story; “When I got out of the Navy, I went to work on the railroad. We were making a train trip through a wooded area of North Carolina. A couple of us were up in the cab of the engine

cutting up and laughing when we looked out and saw a black man wearing a white suit walking through the woods toward us, waving his hands for us to stop. He had white hair and a beard. The engineer began braking the train. We came to a halt just when the track began to curve. “We got out of the train to go back where we saw the man but didn’t see him anywhere. We crossed the track to look on that side and he was nowhere to be found there either. So we walked to the front of the train to where the track curved, and as we rounded that curve, our blood froze. Right there was a trestle that had crashed down into the ravine, the one we were due to cross in a couple of seconds. Had we kept going, we would have been killed. “We got back in the cab to radio for help. Everybody was

extremely somber as we thought about the fate that had awaited us which was thwarted due to the intervention of an angel sent by God. We had no doubt that this

man was indeed an angel. I never said another curse word from that point on, started going to church and pledged to walk with Jesus for the rest of my life.” And he did. How many readers have been touched by an angel in some way? Think back on your life. It may have happened more than you real-ize.

Dan “Pappy” Kerr was once spotlighted in Ripley’s Believe It Or Not for inventing the meatless hamburger during World War II when he served in the United States Navy and meat was scarce. He made it out of oatmeal and it tasted like the real thing. That was the in-spiration for the Veggieburger that is popular today. Pappy went home to The Lord several years ago.

Churches Helping ChurchesDo you need more chairs for your church? Did your church just buy new chairs?

Would your church like to bless another church with its used chairs?Does your church need a keyboard for worship? Did your church just buy a new keyboard?

Churches always have a need for something, so why not work together to fill that need.

America’s Good News would like to see churches partner with one another. So we are willing to create a FREE section in our paper that churches can use in order to bless each other as the need

arises. Amen! No items in this section shall be for sale. Our desire is to see churches give to one another out of Love.

The Fellowship of the Believers Acts 2:44-47(NIV) All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling

their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad

and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Chad: Crossroads for diverse people, but in

need of Christ

World News Briefs

Partners making a difference in Bhopal

Mission Network News - 7/20/2009 TEAM is working on rebuilding and expanding its ministry in north and east Chad.Chad (MNN) ― Located in the center of Africa, Chad is home to many diverse people groups who are about 50 percent Muslim. Of the people groups, many are unreached with the Gospel of Christ and His message of hope. TEAM (The Evangelical Alliance Mission) has had missionaries in the south of Chad for years. There is a strong Christian population there, and TEAM has seen many nationals come to Christ. However, in north and east Chad, the story is a little different. In fact, the population is nearly 99 percent Muslim with almost no known believers. Senior director of TEAM, Ross McCordic, said TEAM is looking to shift their focus to this new area of Chad. “The current plan is to diminish our focus that we’ve had throughout our entire history in Chad on the south, but really turn our effort towards the north and east of Chad, which is where the high Muslim concentrations are,” Mc-Cordic said. In the north portion, in and around Am Timan, TEAM missionaries have only been there since 2002. Last year, three of the team members were killed in a car accident when a bus turned a corner wildly, went out of control, and ran over the top of their vehicle. “That was a real blow to the workers who were there, but the response that came back from the community where they had been working was huge,” Mc-Cordic said. “It’s even increased the openness to the Gospel there.” Now the team is rebuilding and wants to expand in several areas. These areas include medical and agricultural workers. In fact, the Chadian government has asked TEAM to put a medical team in place, knowing fully the team would be presenting Christ as well. Currently, there is a medical couple raising support to come to Chad. However, they need more people to join them. “This would not just be western missionaries doing the work of evange-lism, but also Chadians from the south who have a real heart to be a witness to the Muslims in the northern part of their country and to be trained in medical evangelism,” McCordic said. Individuals are needed to make up the team. In addition to TEAM reaching out to the diverse people groups of Chad, Darfur refugees from Sudan have been pouring in to the region. McCordic said they are asking themselves what their response should be to the refugees. Please pray for this new initiative in Chad as the team looks to rebuild and expand. Pray also for the team and for God to provide them with the wisdom to minister to the Darfur refugees. If you would like more information on TEAM and their ministries in Chad and around the world, visit their website at http://www.teamworld.org/SERVE/country.aspx?region=africa You can also obtain information on how to get involved in Chad or another areas.

Mission Network News - 7/20/2009India (MNN) ― Almost 25 years after the world’s worst industri-al disaster, the “Hiroshima of the Chemical Industry,” hundreds of thousands of people still suffer. 42 tons of toxic methyl isocyanine (MIC) leaked from the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, India on December 3, 1984. Over 500,000 people were exposed to it and 8,000-10,000 died in the first 72 hours. Since then, over 25,000 people have died of related diseases, and many suffer from blindness, lung diseases, and cancer. Union Carbide left the region without cleaning up the chemical waste and the poisoned water. Today, Bhopal’s 1.5 million residents not only live with the environmental fallout of the tragedy, they also live with religious conflict between Hindus and Muslims. The different religions fling accusations back and forth, and spreading the Gospel is forbidden. Nevertheless, one of Partners International’s indigenous partners is making a difference in the area. Pastor Ravi of Evangelism Mission Outreach Service (EMOS) leads church-planting, micro-enterprise, and children’s ministries in Bhopal. The ministry has planted nine churches in the area, and seven other areas have shown interest in the church - among them two slums. Women benefit from EMOS’s sewing groups, handicrafts, and literacy ministries. EMOS is an indigenous church-planting movement that works to bring the gospel to the unreached peoples of India - to the poor and rich, oppressed and oppressor. Its goal is to bring both spiritual transformation and social reformation to India. You can support Partners’ ministries in India. http://www.partners-intl.org/give/jvi.php

SEATTLE, WA - 7/19/2009 The Washington state Supreme Court has ruled that the city of Woodinville lacked grounds for barring a church from hosting a homeless encampment. The unanimous ruling holds that a development moratorium should not have been applied to Tent City 4 in 2006. The self-governing group of 60 to 100 homeless people moves about every three months to sites volunteered by owners in the suburbs east of Seattle. When Northshore United Church of Christ agreed to host the encampment, Woodinville cited a moratorium on land use permit applications in residential areas. The high court ruled that the action violated Washington’s con-stitution, which guarantees “absolute freedom of conscience in all matters of religious sentiment, belief, and worship.”

ST. LOUIS, MO - 7/18/2009 A federal appeals court has upheld a ban on the classroom distribution of Bibles to grade school students in Annapolis, Mo., but has allowed literature to be offered outside of class.F For more than three decades, the South Iron School District allowed the Gideons to give away Bibles in fifth-grade classrooms. But some parents objected, prompting a lawsuit. A federal judge last year granted a permanent injunction against the classroom Bible giveaway. The ruling by the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upholds that injunc-tion, but allows the district to institute a revised policy that lets any group hand out literature, including Bibles, outside of class. Liberty Counsel president Mat Staver, who represented the school district, says that it’s a neutral policy that lets students take or leave what’s offered.

America’s Good News 8-A

By: Susan Holmes Have you ever wondered about why we humans are so curious and interested in the unknown and the unseen world? It seems that people are trying to find the answers to questions like: Is there really a God who loves me? Is there really an evil being called the Devil? Is Heaven and Hell real? What about the reality of Angels and Demons? Is there life after death? Why am I here? People look for truth many different ways and in many different places, but the interest we humans have in the unseen spirit world has always been and is recorded throughout history. Why do you think this is where people look for answers? Could it be because we were created by an unseen God who lives and operates in this spirit world that we are so curious about? Could our curiosity be a Divine instinct to make us hungry to seek and find the One who is the Ruler, King and Master of the Universe seen and unseen? Where do we find the truthful answers to all of the questions that we each have resounding inside of us? Most importantly, how do we know the truth and teach it to our children, grandchildren and others around us?

How do we protect our loved ones from things that will open them up to harm for perhaps eternity? I do know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the answers to all of our many questions will not be found in any new movie showing on the big screen, no matter how great the computer graphics are or if it’s the most popular movie to go see. I can also promise you that the answers will not be found in any of the many games that are calling out to entangle the minds of our youth and children which are opening them up to things in the spirit world that we are responsible to guard them from. We are responsible for knowing what our children are playing, watching and listening to. We must even know what our children are being taught at school. The eyes and ears are gateways to the mind and soul. Do you know what your children are involved in? We can learn a lot about our children by listening to them when they are playing and pretending. They tend to act out from the seeds that have been planted into their minds and hearts. What has been deposited in their hearts will come out of their mouths and actions!

The answers to our many questions can be found in the greatest love letter of all time, God’s Word, the Bible. Jesus said in the Gospel of John 4:24: “God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth (reality).” He also said in John 8:31- 32 “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples. And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.” Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life: no one comes to the Father (God) except through me.” In John 17:3 Jesus tells us what eternal life truly is: “And this is eternal life: to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and (likewise) to know Him, Jesus as the Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent.” Because I do know God personally through faith in Jesus Christ and because I do spend much time in His love letter to me, I know with every fiber of my being the answers to the questions listed above. Yes, there is a God who loves you and me! Yes, there is an evil being called the Devil who hates you. Yes, there is a Heaven where those who accept

the free gift of salvation will spend eternity! Yes, there is a Hell. Yes, there are Angels who are ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation (Hebrews 1:14) and who do God’s bidding (Psalm 103:20)! Yes, there are Demons who are fallen Angels (2Peter 2:4 & Jude 1:6)! Yes, there is eternal life after the death of our physical bodies and we choose where we will spend eternity: You and I are here my dear friends, to make that choice, to know God personally through faith in Jesus the Messiah or to reject Him: The Way, the Truth and the Life! It is God’s will for you and my prayer for you that you will choose eternal life! God says to you in Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door of your heart and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heeds My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him and he with Me.” All Scriptures are from the Amplified Version

WHY ARE WE SO CURIOUS ABOUT THE SPIRIT WORLD?

Angels and Demons - Are they for real?

Revelation 5:2And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?”

Mission Network News -7/20/2009 Luis Palau Association is fea-tured in today’s USA Today.USA (MNN) ― The evangelical church in North America has been criticized for not being very loving, kind and compassionate. It’s been said some Christians are so concerned about people coming to Christ they don’t establish relationships with the people they’re trying to reach. That’s not the case in Portland, Oregon. In today’s edition of USA Today, the Luis Palau Association is being recognized for its Season of Service ministry. The ministry’s executive vice president Kevin Palau says it all started with their evangelistic festi-vals held in major cities around the world where thousands attend and hundreds come to Christ. Palau says, “What if that festival was a celebration of the biggest community service effort in the

history of Oregon? So we met with our mayor and said, ‘What are the needs in our community?’ And the obvious things came up: helping with public schools, the environ-ment, homelessness, and free medical and dental clinics.” So last year, local evangelical churches committed to providing 15,000 volunteers. Palau says, “In the end, more than 26,000 volun-teers from evangelical churches took on hundreds of projects.” That was all celebrated last sum-mer during the Luis Palau Associa-tion’s Evangelistic Festival. However, Palau says the Season of Service continues because churches have established goals. “The goal, for example, with the Portland Public Schools is to try to have an official church partnership, at least one church that’s in rela-tionship with every public school

in the Greater Portland Area. So we’re about half-way to the goal.” In some cases, they’re provid-ing mentors and reading helpers, and churches are also providing a dozen free medical and dental clin-ics. While this all sounds like physical assistance, Palau says it’s more than that. “The goal is build-ing relationships: earning the right to be heard. In a place like Oregon where it’s not the Bible belt and people are very skeptical, it’s actu-ally a big step in pre-evangelism.” While churches in Portland have been reaching out in the com-munity for years, Season of Ser-vice has brought them all together. “If it’s done collaboratively and in a formal partnership with city lead-ers and the corporate community,

everybody wins by the heightened awareness of it.” While the

first festival saw about 2,000 people turn to Christ, Palau says this type of ministry will help put feet to their profession. “We know that as we sow the seed, some falls on the rocks, some falls in the hard path and the birds come [and eat it]. And what we’re all looking for is that seed that falls on the good soil and produces fruit. And that reveals itself over time.” Palau says they hope to rep-licate Season of Service this year in Kigali, Rwanda; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Santiago, Chili. “Nor Cal Gospel and Praise Concert” Faith Hope And Love Productions Presents A Gospel Concert To Benefit Charities On Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Sleep Train Pavilion In Concord, Ca. (San Francisco, CA) – July 16, 2009 – Faith Hope and Love Productions presents the “Nor Cal Gospel and Praise Concert” featuring GRAMMY Award Nominee and multiple Stellar Award Winner Marvin Sapp, GRAMMY Award Nominee and Stellar Award Winner Martha Munizzi and Multiple Dove Award Nominee Kyle Bynoe.

On Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 12:00PM – 6:00PM at Live Nation’s Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord, Ca. Destined to be a rousing time of praise and worship, the event’s goal is to bring the churches in the San Francisco Bay Area together for a time of unity. Not only will the rafters be raised in praise, but a portion of ticket sales will go to participating churches, as well as Shepherd’s Gate and the Youth Intervention Network, organizations that assist at-risk children, families, and women who have been imperiled by circumstances and plights such as substance abuse, domestic violence, poverty, and homelessness.

Founder of Faith Hope and Love Productions, Terry Ketchel, is excited about the oppor-tunity to bring believers together for a time of praise. “Back in August 2008, God put on my heart to produce concerts and manage Bay Area Christian talent,” says Ketchel. “It wasn’t until June 2009 that God revealed the vision would be much bigger. Faith Hope and Love Productions will bring Bay Area Churches together for one day at the ‘Nor Cal Gospel and Praise Concert’ at the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord, CA. Art-ists from soloists to choirs will take the stage one church at a time to put on their highest praise and share some testimonies,” shares Ketchel. Terry has tapped some of the brightest in gospel music for her first concert kick-off.

Marvin Sapp, one of the genre’s most preeminent leaders of worship and praise, has been a favorite with gospel audiences for years beginning with his time as lead vocal-ist with the ground-breaking group Commissioned. But his song “Never Would Have Made It”, heard on gospel and mainstream radio alike, catapulted the Pastor of Light-house Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the stratosphere. The song netted him eight Stellar Awards, multiple Dove Award Nominations, and a BMI Song of the Year honor, spending 47 weeks at the top of the Gospel radio charts. In addition to breaking all sorts of records, The Associated Press named “Never Would Have Made It” as the 2008 Top Song and the track went on to sell more than 1,000,000 ringtones, a first in gospel music. Martha Munizzi is known nationally and internationally as a singer and notable songwriter, with such songs as “Shout”, “Glorious”, and “Because of Who You Are,” becoming modern day praise and worship anthems for the church today. As a result she has been nominated for Grammy, Dove, and Stellar Awards as both a performer and songwriter. Martha travels extensively with a message that crosses cultural, genera-tional, and denominational boundaries and is currently on tour supporting her latest CD Release, Change The World Live. Kyle Bynoe has written for artists such as Tina Turner, Angie Stone and Mary J. Blige. He brought his talents to the gospel music side of the industry and penned hits for Rizen, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, and New Harvest, songs that netted Bynoe Dove Award Nominations, including three in 2008 alone: Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year, Urban Recorded Song of the Year and Traditional Gospel Album of the Year. Bynoe took on the role of artist with his group Kyle Bynoe & Praise with a debut release in 2005 and is known for his special style of urban praise and worship.

FALL SEMESTER CLASSES

By Diana Dobbie Many of us are experiencing trials and tribulations of extraor-dinary magnitude. It is becoming frighteningly commonplace to find out people such as family, friends, & co-workers are suddenly diag-nosed with an incurable illness, lost their job or are deeply buried in financial woes due to the econ-omy, and/or the real estate market. It is hard to deny that we are all affected in varying degrees by the circumstances surrounding us. So what can we do about it? We have the choice to fear, or not to fear. A few of the most com-forting verses in the bible about fear states: II Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a

sound mind. We all have the capacity to minimize and eliminate fear. When your fearful circumstances becom-ing unbearable, it’s time to look up for guidance even if you are not a prayerful person. Sometimes just having a conversation out loud and alone, just you and God will have a significant impact. If nothing else, there is a cleansing feeling or a sense of relief to just get it off your chest that overcomes you when you vocalize all your anger, frus-tration, hope, fear and even tears. Clearing your mind will open your eyes to see what you can change. Opening you heart will expand your capacity to love and will erase all the bitterness and resent-ment over people and situations for

which you have no control. Psalm 56:11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me Trust that each day will be bet-ter, but don’t wait for them to get better. Take what you can control into your own hands. Focusing on helping others is a remarkable way to diminish your worries and change your outlook. Giving of yourself whether it is time, money, or other resources will go a long way in opening up positive doors of opportunity hope, happiness and a sense of fulfillment. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

So do we really want to con-tinually live in fear or do we want to walk in faith and trust that God is in control? There is a gift for those who fear not and that is the sense of peace within you that fol-lows you wherever you go. Maybe the best way to visualize peace and fear is to envision “peace” as an angel and “fear” as the devil. Seek peace wherever you go and in everything you do and give fear a righteous kick out the door.

Angels bring peaceTo Fear or not to Fear, that is the question…

Exodus 23:20See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to

guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

12-A America’s Good News

by Michele Tripp Everything about this painting represents a spiritual truth of God. Every artist has their own signature. The design of the “branching” seems to be God’s signature. Everywhere in life is the branching. It is in the human body in every vein and organ, as well as every animal and insect. It is found in trees, in leaves, flowers, in rocks, in riv-ers and waterways. It is even in the sky as clouds and lightning that flashes. It is everywhere crying out the Lord’s name, saying I AM here, I AM here and I AM here. This branching is either a vine or a vein. It is either water or blood. Both of these are very significant and important! Every living thing has either water or blood running through them, and humans have both which keep us alive. Without one or the other, we would die. The blood repre-sents life, healing and forgiveness of sins. Water represents refreshing and restoring. The image shows the veins of God turning into vines. There is both the water and the blood flowing out of Him to us. If we stay on the vine, there is life and refresh-ing and healing for us. The red flowers are where the nails went where Jesus took on all our sins and died so we could live. The place of death becomes the place of overflowing love and life. There is great power in the water and blood, the vine and the vein. This painting is a picture of God reaching down to us to let us be able to connect with Him. Jesus is the vine, an extension of God. When we acknowledge that truth in our heart and confess our dependence on Him, we are grafted into the Garden of the Lord, on His vine. He is now our caretaker, provider, our covering, teacher and much, much more. He lovingly showers love and attention on us so that we will grow. If we contin-ually seek Him and respond to His love and read His Words to us, which is how we are watered, He promises we will flourish. This is the abiding in Him. If we step away from the vine and go our own way, we will soon wither and if too long, we will eventually die and ultimately be separated forever. The Lord will do everything possible to keep this from happening. As all the hands are added I hope and pray that this will serve as an outward commitment of an inward decision to stay on the vine. I’d like to close with a verse and a song… “This is He who came by water and blood, His baptism and His death, Jesus Christ, the Mes-siah. Not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And it is the Holy Spirit who bears wit-ness because the Holy Spirit is the truth.” I John 5:6 These words are from the song “There is a River”…..“There is a fountain, full of grace, and it flows from Emmanuel’s veins. He came and refreshed me, He came and healed me, and He came and washed my sins away! And I will rejoice and be glad!”

Dear Wounded Warriors Family Support, Now that we have been home for a couple days I want-ed to write a proper thank you letter. I cannot express what this trip meant to my family. Since my husband, Jerry, returned from his last two tours in Iraq, hav-ing being injured both times, life has been different for us. Jerry has been on crutches for over 10 months now and still has no time frame for when he might be able to walk. His neck and back hurt every day. Between doctor appointments, surgery and physical therapy, there isn’t much fam-ily time for us. Jerry takes a lot of pain medications so he can’t drive. He has a portable traction machine he uses on his neck daily and he has a bone stimulator machine he uses on his knee daily. He hasn’t been able to really do much with the girls since his return and this has caused some depression to tackle on top of everything else. In steps your program! You sent us for 7 days to Orlando. We stayed at the Bahama Bay Resort. The grounds are beau-tiful and the staff is wonderful. The unit we stayed in was spacious and comfortable. The showers were walk-in with bench seats so Jerry could shower without any problems. The pool was right behind us so even when he didn’t feel up to coming out with us, he could sit on the screened porch and watch the girls swim and feel like he wasn’t missing everything. We were able to visit many locations during our trip. We went to Ep-cot, Animal Kingdom, The Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and we even went to Sea World. It was nice to be able to take our time and set our own pace at the parks. Jerry was able to go on some rides with the girls and they all loved that. At Sea World, Jerry was able to dive with the sharks. Being in the water took all the pressure off his neck, back and knee and for those 30 minutes he was truly able to enjoy himself without pain. The girls were able to see the “old” Dad as he used to be prior to being injured. This program is amazing. We were able to go somewhere as a family and not think about doctor appointments or physical therapy visits. We were able to just focus on getting our family back. Even though things are never going to be the same in our family, Dad will be ok, that was important for the girls to see and understand. We can never repay you for the wonderful gift you gave us. It went way beyond just providing us with tickets and a place to stay. It was a huge step in the healing process for our entire family. For that we will be eternally grateful. Sincerely, The Broesch Family

This is an amazing story! WWFS will again be our target charity for our 2009 Freedom Car Show! We are proud to be able to play a small role in helping military families who have given, and in many cases sacri-ficed, so much in the defense and protection of our nation, and the cause of freedom. May God continue to bless and guide your efforts.

WOW Gets Up Close and Personal Pictured below -Women of Worth Pastor

Kim Moreno and Shelby Seeley

By Gina Dacus What’s the likelihood of engag-ing an entire audience with a con-versation between two people? This month’s WOW meeting proved that it could happen at least once. We were so blessed and encouraged by the profound testimony shared by Terry Ketchel. While the conversation between Pastor Kim and Terry was designed for all to hear, the level of transparency compelled each woman to lean in as Terry shared her life tran-sition from past to present. When Pastor Kim Moreno intro-duced Terry, she described her as a transparent bold woman of God be-longing to the “Tribe of the Unique”. The testimonial stage was set by placing a round table with two chairs centered on the pulpit. While statistics would indicate that Terry would not be free from a life of addiction, she has demonstrated that the power of God can move in your life to create a miracle, testimony and ministry all at

the same time. As Terry shared, she expanded her spiri-tual consciousness as she realized that secrets were the very thing keeping her in shackles. Her power-ful testimony of surviving a lifestyle of addiction without claiming the title of victim was sup-ported by her belief to not settle for what you can live with but settle for what you can’t live without. Although Terry’s testimony centered on recovery from a past addiction, Pastor Kim reminded the audience that addiction was a pretty word for “stronghold”. Strongholds may not be a common discussion in an open forum of a church service. Yet, the transparency of exposure creates a platform for all to partake that believe. When we really walk in the life as

a believer in Christ, we will be the fi rst to raise our hands and commit to being a witness; not in what we see or judge in oth-ers, but telling the real deal

when it comes to our own lives. What is it about your past are you willing to share in order to win souls for the kingdom? John 8:36 proclaims if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (NASB). This type of freedom means that you are not under restraint. Yet, some may be handicapped due to strongholds because we are holding on. Some may have allowed past circumstances to operate currently and the ability to believe freedom is pos-sible is no longer apparent.

Yet, as Terry shared, her turn-ing point occured towards recovery when she was willing to let go of the past. Real freedom requires you to give up what you say you don’t want. Sometimes, we are holding on to “it” instead of “it” holding onto us. If we fully walk in a spirit of freedom, strongholds such as addictions will no longer have any power over our lives. Pastor Jerry Hanoum often says that expectation is the birthing place for miracles. Who is willing to stick their necks out and surrender it all to Christ?Be Blessed!

By Will Byrns What do you do when your family is bored and you’re looking for something fun and entertaining to do? The kids have already spent too much time in front of the T.V. this summer playing video games and you would like to do something special for them. But, you’re feeling a little uneasy about filling up the car or S.U.V. with a full tank and driving a long distance to the beach, Disneyland or other amusement parks that can be very costly. You’ve had a tough month due to unexpected bills that came upon you and you’re just not sure what to do or where to take your kids for good family entertainment. Your worries are over, because we have the answer! Golf-N-Games, Paradise Skate and Antioch’s Paintball Park are the places to be! Owner Jeff Warrenburg has a wealth of experience when it comes to family entertainment. He purchased ‘Pixie Land’ in Concord back in 1999 and finally let it go in 2006 after having owned Golf-N-Games for one year, which he obtained in 2005. Jeff then started up Antioch’s Paintball Park in 2006 and made the family entertainment package complete in 2008 with the acquisi-tion of Roller Haven skate rink. He fully remolded and renamed Roller Haven ‘Para-dise Skate.’ It is a beautiful facility with a tropical island theme and décor. It has a new skate floor, new paint with tropical murals, new carpet and a new refreshment center. “There’s not a lot of family entertain-ment around so we try to make our centers a fun and affordable experience for everyone. We want everyone to have a good time and to see the smiles on their faces. ” said owner Jeff Warrenburg. “It doesn’t cost a fortune

to come here and people also feed the local economy. I’ve always been a kid at heart and that’s why I love places like this. I also believe in staying involved in the commu-nity,” Jeff said. Jeff is definitely involved in the community as his participation shows us that he has a big heart and a love for people. His recent positions: Antioch Chamber of Commerce Presi-dent - 2008 Antioch Delta Rotary President - 2008 Antioch Youth Sports Complex - Board Member Delta Advocacy Foundation - Board Member CAPA (California Attractions & Parks Association) - Board Member Jeff also has three boys of his own, Michael, Jason and Bradley. He is a loving father who has personally ensured that there are a wide variety of activities in East County. Jeff shared his heart with us… “I thank God everyday for my kids, they are such a blessing.” I met Jeff at Golf-N-Games for this interview, so after the interview my son and I had to get out on the mini-golf course and check it out. My son just loved it and after we were done playing he kept saying, “let’s go back again dad.” He got more ‘hole in ones than I did. Jeff then told me that he was heading over to Paradise Skate and for us to stop by. It had been years since I had been on roller skates. So with excitement and anticipation, we then headed to the skate rink just around the corner and had a blast! We met Miss Collins with a group of kids from A.C. S. Summer Day Camp there. She said, “We are

from Richmond and this is the closest skate park there is. We are always looking for someplace fun to take the kids and this place is great.” Dwight is the manager at Paradise Skate and has been there for 15 years. He in-formed us that Paradise Skate is one of only two skate parks in the entire East Bay. There were many games that were played during our time there, i.e. red light –green light and the limbo, just to name a few. Dwight noted, “I love the creativity involved with this job, always trying to come up with new games that are fun.” Paradise Skate is also the home to the Roller Derby team Brawlin’ Betty’s which meet on Saturday nights.

Come join in on the FUN!!! Whether you’re looking to sharpen your mini-golf game, dance to the music on skates, or get into some serious paintball combat action, the Family Fun Centers of Antioch will have you wanting to come back for more. Oh, I almost forgot to mention there is also an arcade, batting cages, rock climbing, go-cart rides, and the list goes on and on. If you’re looking for something fun to do, come check out the Family Fun Centers of Antioch. The possibilities are endless! Visit the homepage website at goj-effery.com for more info. Look at the advertisement below to find out locations and phone numbers for each amusement center.

17-AAmerica’s Good News

By Andrew Pate Today we will be talking about how to combat a religious spirit. The religious spirit is a demon that tries to take the place of the Holy Spirit in our lives. If the enemy can get their subject to start look-ing more at themselves for their success than God, then they will have won a major victory in establishing pride in what was a once humble heart. 2 Timothy 3:2 states, “People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slan-derous, without self control, brutal, not lovers of good, treacherous, rash, conceit-ed, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.” Paul goes through a lengthy list of characteristics so that Timothy would know what to look for. The reason that the religious spirit is so dangerous is because like a virus that infects healthy tissue, the religious spirit infects good Christians. It can affect anyone from the new believer to the seasoned elder or pas-tor. Your own zeal can be a weapon that the religious spirit uses against you. Remember, in the days that Jesus Christ walked the earth, no one had more zeal than the Pharisees. The Pharisees lived in the Word and abided by the law to the strictest standard. No one wanted to see

the coming of the Messiah more than the Pharisees. But somewhere along their journey they became prideful in the great things that they did for God. The two basic foundations of the religious spirit are pride and fear. “The religious spirit seeks to have us serve the Lord in order to gain His approval, rather than receiving ap-proval through the cross of Jesus.” (Rick Joyner) Fear, pride, or the combination of both can cause us to base our relationship with God on personal discipline rather than on the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Understanding that true grace sets you free from the bondage of trying to earn God’s approval will allow us to experi-ence real spiritual growth. The religious spirit is the most de-structive and deadly deception that Satan has launched against the church. “Even though this spirit comes with a pretense of righteousness, it is discerned by how it always has us looking at ourselves, trying to measure ourselves against standards, comparing ourselves to others, and con-sequently distracting us from the glory of God that transforms us.” The religious spirit works at worming itself into a healthy church by trying to get members of the body to see how godly they are by proving to themselves how superior they are to their brothers and sisters. Once self-righteousness sets in, it is a long process of bringing the deceived brother

or sister back to the grace of the cross. So what are some of the warning signs of a person with a religious spirit? The following is a few examples from Rick Joyner’s, “Overcoming Evil in the Last Days”: (1) They will be unable to accept correction. In this type of person, pride has set in and they will believe that they have divine instruction on how they are to conduct themselves and their ministry. They will be closed to any righteous rebuke because it will threaten the certainty of the thought life that they have become comfortable in. (2) They will keep score in their spiritual life. This type of person prides themselves in how much of the Bible they have memorized, how much longer their prayer time is than their friends, or how many ministries they are participating in. This person is not motivated by bringing joy to God, but in their own local standing and reputation. Their pride in themselves, and possibly their fear of their own failures being ex-posed, causes this person to seek out and attack what they perceive as a threat to righteousness. We all suffer, to some degree, from the religious spirit. We must be in constant balance to not let pride and fear

creep into our daily suc-cess and failures. Along with recognizing the symptoms of a religious spirit, it is important to note that we can free

ourselves from this deceptive enemy. The first thing that we need is a personal relationship with God. We need to recognize that by ourselves we are not able to love as we are called to, and we need to pray that the Father’s love is in us. Walking in love will deflect attacks of pride and fear. We need to ensure that we are studying the Word in order to better know the heart of our Father, and not to impress our friends on how much we know. We need to spend quality time with the Lord and wait to hear His voice daily. We need to turn criticism into intercession. We need to work on dis-cerning “bad” fruit and start interceding for each other. Ask the Lord to see His glory. Look at the body through spiritual eyes, and not eyes infected by the world. Finally, when you fail, even when you fail repeatedly, repent. Our Father knows our weaknesses; we will not surprise Him when we repent of our sins. Repentance brings submission, submission brings humility, and humility will bring righteous understanding and spiritual growth.

The Religious Spirit “The religious spirit seeks to have us serve the Lord in order to gain His approval, rather than re-ceiving approval through

the cross of Jesus.” ~ Rick Joyner

A DevotionBy Bill KellerMatthew 11:28-30; 1 Peter 5:7 This message applies to every single person who is reading this right now. It doesn’t matter how old you are, whether you are a man or a woman, what your skin color is, what nationality you are, how much money you have or don’t have, this is a universal message that is applicable to everyone. You see, nobody that has lived very long in this sin-filled and evil world has escaped the trials and tribulations of this life and not experienced some sort of pain. EVERYONE reading this Devotion-al knows the pain that comes from time to time during this journey we are on. For some, that pain was experi-enced in your childhood through mental, physical, or sexual abuse. Some have experienced that pain later in life through failed relationships, many through being divorced. Everyone has lived through the pain of the death of a loved one. Many of you have experienced the pain of financial hardships. Others have lived through the pain of losing your job or other employ-ment and career issues. Sadly, some have lived through the experience of being a crime victim. Everyone has experienced the pain from making poor choices at some point in their life. Most have had to experience the pain of some bondage such as alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, food, money, shopping, lying, or a myriad of other bondages that people get caught up in. NOT ONE PERSON READ-ING THIS HAS NOT HAD TO LIVE THROUGH THE PAIN THAT COMES FROM LIVING THIS LIFE HERE ON EARTH. Today, I want to share a word with you that could be one of the most im-

portant things anyone has ever told you. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KEEP LIVING WITH WHATEVER PAIN YOU HAVE FROM YOUR PAST. Let me repeat that, because I really want you to hear these words clear. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KEEP LIVING WITH WHATEVER PAIN YOU HAVE FROM YOUR PAST. If you are, that is only because you have CHOSEN to live with that pain! The fact is, God has made a way through faith in His Son for you to put the pain of your past behind you and live your life in freedom. Jesus has told us to give Him our burdens, that He would carry them for us. The Bible tells us to cast our cares on Him, because He cares for us. You see, God doesn’t expect you to carry the pain of your past with you each day. He wants you live FREE from your past so that you can enjoy the abundance that this life has to offer. Just hours before going to the cross, Jesus told His disciples that in this world, they would experience trials and tribula-tions. But He told them to “be of good cheer” because HE has overcome this world. You see my friend, trials and tribu-lation are part of this human experience, but God has made a way through His Son for us to still enjoy the abundance that this life can offer despite those trials and tribulations. The only reason you are carrying the pain of your past with you today is be-cause you have chosen to believe the LIE instead of the TRUTH. Jesus tells us in John 8:44 that satan is a liar. He is the “fa-ther of lies.” When he speaks, he speaks his native language, lying! God on the other hand is TRUTH. The Word of God

is TRUTH. The lie of satan is that you have to carry the pain of your past around with you each day like a 1,000 pound anchor around your neck. The truth from God is that you can take that pain of your past and give it to Jesus. HE WILL GLADLY TAKE THAT 1,000 POUND ANCHOR FROM YOU TODAY!!! I love you and care about you so much. Everyone reading this Devotional today has experi-enced some of the pain that this life offers. So many of you have never let go of that pain and have simply learned how to live your life each day with that pain. Because of that, you are missing the fullness of the joy, peace, and abundance that this life can offer. Because of that, you are not completely fulfilling your purpose in this life which is to serve and glorify God with your life. Because of that, you are not liv-ing in total freedom and victory each day. Right now, this very moment, I want you to stop whatever you are doing. If you are at home, at work, at school, it doesn’t matter. Stop whatever you are doing right now and pray this prayer. “Dear Father, I thank you for this day. I know that today was not promised to me, but it is a gift from You. Dear God, You know the pain I have today from what has happened in my life. I am tired of carry-ing this pain with me day after day. It is robbing me of my joy, of my peace, of knowing the abundance that this life can offer. I trust Your Word today that tells me that I can give this burden to You, that You will take it from me. I trust Your

Word today that tells me to cast my cares on You, because You care for me. In the name of Jesus, I give You the pain of my past today. In the name of Jesus, I surren-der it to You. Take it from me, and fill me right now with Your joy, with Your peace, and let me live from this day forward in FREEDOM FROM MY PAST! In Jesus name I pray, AMEN!” I will be praying for you today my friend. God loves you SO MUCH! He cares about you SO MUCH! We live in an evil and sin-filled world. Because of that, we all will experience pain in this life, but God has made a way so that we do not have to carry that pain around with us for the rest of our days. He has of-fered to carry it for us, to take it from us. I pray today that you will trust Him and give Him the pain of your past and live in FREEDOM from this day forward. Amen! John 1:1-5The Word Became Flesh In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Senior MomentsAngels and Demons, Are They Real?

As I pondered what to write on this subject, because of its substance I turned to my bible looking up scripture to clarify just what and how I would approach it. I want to be as accurate as I can to enlighten those who are not quite sure if they be-lieve. I can tell you I have experienced a sense or presence of a spirit both good and evil. One way I know is when I am having a diffi cult time with something and life seems to get tough. When I hand it over to God I fi nd peace and the presence of angels watching over me. I have also felt the presence of evil surround me. It shows up with a sense of anxiety I can’t shake. Think about it, have there been times when you have sensed or felt a presence in a room with you. If this was not true why would everyone wonder about it? Scripture says angels, human beings and all nature were created by God. With the words from Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created Heaven and earth.” This one scripture gives us the fi rst indication that God created the spiritual world. This world of spirits is called Heaven. The angels were already present during the creation of the starry skies, which is evidenced by the words of God spoken, “When the stars were created, all My angels sang praises to Me”, Job 38-7. Angel in Greek means messenger. This word relates their relationship to us. They reveal to us the will of God and assist us in reaching salvation. Man from the beginning knew of the existence of angels. It is diffi cult for us to comprehend the life of the angels and the world in which they live because they are so different from us. It is known that the angels serve God, carry out His will and glorify Him. Belonging to the spiritual world, they are usually invisible to us. Originally God created all angels as celestial beings. They, like us, were en-dowed with a free will and could chose either to obey or oppose God; chose between good and evil. Some of the angels, headed by Lucifer (Satan/Devil), one of the clos-est to God, misused that freedom and rebelled against God. Satan had a third of the angels believe in him and they were expelled from Heaven and established their own kingdom here on earth. These fallen angels are called demons. Demons, or fallen angels, try to push man to the path of sin and thus to his damnation. The book of Genesis tells us how Satan took the form of a snake; he deceived Adam and Eve to break the commandment of God. By doing so he deprived them of everlasting life. From that moment on, having the opportunity to infl uence the thoughts, feelings and acts of man the devil and his demons try to bring us deeper into sin. Into which they themselves have sunk. “He who is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning”, 1 John 3:8. The presence of evil spirits among us presents a constant danger. That is why the Apostle Peter tells us, “Be sober and watchful, for your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goes about seeking someone to devour”, 1 Peter 5:8. the Apostle Paul shares the same thoughts saying, “Put on the armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our wrestling is not against fl esh and blood, but against the princi-palities and the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness on high”, Ephesians 6:11-12. From these warnings of Scripture we should remind ourselves that our life is a persistent battle for the salvation of our souls. Whether one wants it or not, every human being, from early childhood is drawn into the battle of choosing between good and evil; between the will of God and His angels and the will of Satan and his demons. The battle between good and evil began even before creation of the world and will continue until the day of the fi nal judgment. Actually the battle in Heaven is fi nished, with the complete defeat of evil. Now the site of the battle has been transferred into the world, more precisely into our minds and hearts. As we grow in our faith witnessing the work of good angels and in particular our Guardian Angels actively help us in our battle against evil.

I know as a senior I had better get it right now and decide where I want to spend eternity. Our time is limited and I know every senior is thinking about the same thing. The television show Touched By An Angel, shows us the angel of death comes and takes the dying person home to Heaven with our father, God. Then there is the movie Ghost where a black fog of death comes and takes those in rebellion to hell. Take a moment and visualize those two scenes, one is peaceful the other is frightful. Seniors, we still have time to decide where we want to go for eternity. For me it is with my Father in heaven.

by Andrew and Heather Pate One of the fi rst symptoms of a stagnant marriage is the loss of physical intimacy. When you were fi rst married everything was new, and those intimate times together were always fun and fulfi lling. Now, ten years have passed, and your noticing the disconnects. You notice that you rarely talk about anything important, and your last deep conversation ended in a debate of Huggies versus Pampers! Has sex lost its appeal, spontaneity, and pleasure? If so, don’t worry, there is a cure. Believe it or not prayer is the answer to your sex life. As Christians, we know that we are to be constantly and continually in prayer. But did you know that praying nightly with your spouse will increase the level of intimacy in your marriage. In our busy schedules we forget that God is the strength that holds our marriages together. Marriage is too hard without Him. We need to be in communication with Him daily. We need to take all of the problems that weigh our marriages down to Him nightly. The Bible says that we can have a peace that surpasses all understand-ing, and this will make us anxious for nothing. Men, when our wives are not “anx-ious for anything”, than they have the energy and desire to focus more on us. God made us so we would need Him in all things. We were not created to carry life’s burdens on our own. So I challenge you to take the prayer challenge. Pray with your spouse nightly for one month and see the dramatic changes in your intimacy and a satisfying sexual relationship. You will see that as you bring your marriage into alignment with God’s purpose, every aspect of your marriage and family life will improve. But you may be wondering how to start. For something so easy, it is one of the most awkward things to get going. There are two books that I would highly suggest making part of your library. They are “The Power of a Praying Husband” and “The Power of a Praying Wife” by Stormie Omartian. They can be found in any Christian Bookstore, Barnes and Nobles, or Borders Bookstore. These are great resources if you need a little help in starting. My wife and I started out by reading one prayer a piece out of these books each night. After a couple of weeks we became more confi -dent in our own ability to pray, and were more confi dent in praying as a couple. For more great tips on how to improve your marriage we would like to invite you to attend Families on Fire at Mountain View Christian Center, in Oakley, every Sun-day morning at 9:00 a.m. in room14. Families on Fire is a family ministry that caters to engaged, newly married, and seasoned couples by strengthening relationships through sound Biblical teachings and practical life experience. We look forward to meeting you. Have a blessed week. Call 925-625-9570 for more information.

Please pray for our councelors to share the loveof Christ to these needy children that have been

hurt by the world we live in.

America’s Good News correction AGN Oakley, CA In our July issue we covered a story from the Pacifi c Justice Institute’s newswire concerning a talent show at Vintage Parkway Elementary School in Oakley. Second grader Bette Quellette was not able to perform in the talent show because the song she chose was a Christian song and not because she was a Christian as stated. The Principal of the school organized all aspects of the event and though Bette’s parents were not aware of other children being held back from performing at the talent show, it looks as though others were in fact, held back. AGN printed that “Bette was the only student to try out for the talent show and be cast away from it,” which was not the case. After AGN spoke with Oakley School Superintendent Rick Rogers, he stated, “there were between 25 and 30 other students who were also not in the talent show who tried out.”We hope this statement brings truth to the matter and that reconciliation has taken place with all parties involved.

Staff Report If you’ve never attended an MVP meeting you need to come and see for yourself how God is transforming the lives of men in Nor Cal. Men are coming from as far as Sacramento to be in the presence of the Lord and to be strengthened by His word. You will also experience the heart of worship with Pastor Sammy Johnson along with great food and fellowship. At the last meeting there were two powerful keynote speakers, Pastor Joe Seeley and Pastor Ken Seeley. They are identical twins and are sometimes referred to as the ‘Sons of Thunder,’ (only amongst close friends)! Pastor Joe Seeley delivered a message centered on ‘Faith.’ He showed a fi lm clip of the movie ‘Faith Like Potatoes,’ whereas two men were in the midst of putting out a huge fi re that had grown out of control. Their faith was tested as they prayed for rain in the middle of the sum-mer season to quench the fi re. “After we get saved our faith is always put to the test to see if want to walk with God or go our own way,” said Pastor Joe. He spoke of his recent trip to Israel with his brother Ken and noted that the churches there have been destroyed over and over only to be rebuilt again on top of their old foundations. “That is how God works in our lives,” said Pastor Joe, “I would rather he tear me down if I don’t have my foundation right, because I know that he will correct me and build me back up again even stronger.” Pastor Joe was referencing scripture from Psalms 127 and closed his message with these words of wisdom. “A house is not going to defi ne who I am, neither is my car, or my job. It’s my faith in Christ that defi nes me and it’s impossible to please God without faith.” Pastor Ken Seeley then gave a shot of adrenaline (with words) to us all, including the men that were starting to feel the effects of a belly full of barbecued chicken and cheesecake. He also touched on their trip to the Holy land and spoke about the people of the land. “When it comes to missionary work in the Middle East they don’t want t-shirts and trinkets with a pat on the back saying, God loves you. They want a fresh touch of God; they desire and hunger for the word of God.” The differences between a true believer in God and one that just calls himself/herself a Christian were explained by Pastor Ken. “Are we going to be like the priests who walked on past the man in need who was beaten, or are we going to be like the good Samaritan and help him? ” He then exclaimed with unbridled passion, “Don’t be a people pleaser, you are servant to the KING! If God has been stripping things away from you count it all joy my brothers, because He is always faithful and will take you to a higher level.” Pastor Joe again took the platform and asked for men to come up to the altar that needed prayer. Several Pastors prayed over the men as they were strengthened and set free from strong-holds. Friendships were established and bridges were built in the name of Jesus.

Men of Vision and Purpose meet every third Monday at 5000 Amaryllis St. in Oakley. Call 925-625-9570 for more information.

21-AAmerica’s Good News

By Will Byrns We have all seen movies or cartoons with a man/woman who has an Angel on one side of their shoulder and the Devil on the other side. It is always directed toward a situation where there is a tough choice to make. The Devil, or shall I say, a Demon, is whispering in their ear… go ahead, no one will ever know and nobody even cares. Indulge yourself and take what you deserve. All the while the Angel is responding… you know that’s not the right thing to do. Where’s your integrity. People will get hurt if you do it that way. Unless you’re an infant that does not yet speak, there’s not a person on the planet that hasn’t faced this scenario. It plays out in our lives every day. We live in a physical, material world, but yet at the same time are infl uenced by the spiritual world around us. We live in a world where many dabble into the occult, and worship Satan. We live in a world full of people that are into witchcraft and idolatry. If you believe in Heaven and Hell then you should also believe in Angels and Demons. Let us look to the Bible for positive reinforcement that Angels are working in our lives today. “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” He-

brews 1:14. God’s word is truth: all Angels min-ister to us and serve those that are saved. When we walk with the Lord we are not walking alone. Angels can guard

the righteous: “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” (Psa. 91:11) Even Jesus was tended to by the Heavenly Hosts. After Satan tempted Jesus the scripture states, “Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.” (Mat 4:11) When Jesus was arrested and Peter cut off the ear of the Roman sol-dier Jesus replied, “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” (Mat 26:53) With the recent release of the fi lm ‘Angels and Demons’ starring actor Tom Hanks, we thought it high-time to bring truth to our readers. Why? Because there are multitudes of our youth that think it is cool to embrace the dark side and don’t even realize what they are getting into. In the movie Angels and Demons ‘science’ and ‘faith’ are presented as two co-existing forces. In our present world everyone believes in science, but the lack

of faith in America today is dishearten-ing. On occasion, I fl ip through the T.V. channels and I see so many shows that involve spells and witchcraft. I think to myself, why are these weekly pro-grams so popular? Do they re-ally captivate our imagination and are they that entertain-ing? To me personally they aren’t, but for a majority of our youth I believe they are. The shows must be getting high ratings to be on regularly. The show “Touched by an Angel” was a big hit for years but came to a close after nine seasons due to lack of ratings. How do we reverse this trend? The fi lm industry and music industry are two of the most powerful media tools in our society. Its infl uence on our nation has been tremendous. We need to support fi lmmakers and musicians who walk with integrity and bring a positive message to the general public. Let us pray that they would not only create television shows, feature motions pictures and music that would lift up the name of Jesus, but also that it would be done in a professional manner and be entertaining for youth and adults. Angels and Demons? Yes, they’re real! And if you want to live a life that is full of joy here is a bit of good advice.

You may have heard the phrase, ‘focus on the positive and not the negative.’ Always focus on the Angels and avoid the darkness. Why? The deeper you dig yourself into the pit; the harder it will be to get out once you come to know the truth of Christ. When we are saved, we’re all forgiven just the same and we’re all washed completely of our sins. The only difference is… some have more scars than others that can last a lifetime here on earth.

If you are curious about salvation and are ready to climb out of the pit, please don’t hesitate to call me at 925-625-9570.

Angels and Demons… It’s more than a movie

In the movie Angels and Demons ‘science’ and

‘faith’ are presented as two co-existing forces. In our present world everyone

believes in science, but the lack of faith in America today is disheartening.

With the recent release ofAngels and Demons we hope to bring

you the truth in this issue of AGN.
