CLERK’S CORNER

During the month of July many of the committees and the Session did not meet, therefore there is not a Clerk’s Corner article for the month of August. If you have a question or concern about something that is going in in the church or with our ministries, you may contact the office via telephone or email. Alternately you may reach out to the Session members individually with your questions or concerns.

Committee meetings and Session will resume in August.

organizing mission efforts both

financial and hands on, local and

abroad.

budget and bookkeeping.

to serve as elders, deacons, etc.

congregation, and maintenance of

membership.

During the past seven months First Presbyterian of Grand Forks has been through much change. We’ve welcomed a new Pastor and his family. We’ve developed new habits in our committees and our Session. There have been many positive changes in our facility, our worship services, and even some growth in our membership. There isn’t a single committee that hasn't experienced change and development so far in 2016. There are still five months to go, and look at how far we’ve already come in our first year with a full time pastor. Congratulations to everyone who is working so hard to help this congregation achieve its goals. Thank you for the dedication and determination. Thank you for the great ideas and support. While the work is far from over, its important to acknowledge what has already been accomplished. Let’s keep the momentum going! The Great Fall Kickoff is right around the corner. A well earned celebration and fantastic outreach opportunity to the growing community around us. Keep up the good work!

First Pres - Church on the Edge

will be the host venue for a youth

piano recital in the afternoon of

August 27th. Mia Schmidt teaches

piano lessons through Popplers

Music, and has students that are

members of our congregation. When

she needed a recital location, First

Pres was happy to welcome her and

her students. It gives us great

pleasure to welcome the community

into our facility when there is a need

that we can fill.

Follow First Pres on Facebook and stay up to date with all of the current events happening in our ministry!

First Presbyterian is a Pokemon Go stop! Players of the popular game can attain game play balls by getting close to our

facility while they are playing. Welcome to First Pres Pokemon players!

New Service Project for August

Your Mission Team continues their support of C.V.I.C. in meeting their needs for 2016. For the month of August the focus is on Household Starter Items. There will be a shopping cart set up for you to deposit items. They will be delivered to C.V.I .C. at the end of the month. Look for different items of need in the following months. Let’s get behind this 100% to support this very important part of the Greater Grand Forks Community.

Needed Items: Pots & Pans, silverware, dinnerware, shower curtains/liners, etc.

On July 6th First Pres hosted the second edition of Music on the Edge for 2016. Attendance was

wonderful with over a hundred people coming out to see the musicians. Everyone enjoyed the artists

from the Grand Forks SPA productions of “Oklahoma” and “Mary Poppins”, as well as the Grand

Harmony Barbershop, Jessica Knutson, and First Pres’ very own Praise Team. There will be one more

edition of Music on the Edge in 2016. Watch the newsletter, sign up for Email Blast, and follow us on

Facebook so you don’t miss a single event at First Pres - Church on the Edge.

School of Congregational Development Pastor Homan will be attending the School of Congregational Development for a week during the month of August. We are very excited to learn about his experience. During his time away from us, there will be a local minister on standby for any emergencies that may arise. If you have an emergency that needs pastoral care during the week of August 16th, please contact the church office for the name and contact information of the standby minister.

It won’t be long now! Where has summer gone? It

seems that not so long ago we were enjoying the

planning of Vacation Bible School. Here we are

nearing the end of summer and back to school will be

upon us in a few short weeks. Sunday school begins

on September 11th. We have some exciting new

curriculum this fall, and the Christian Education

committee is seeking individuals to help with the

Sunday School program. If you are interested in

helping out you can contact Delphine Gregoire whose

contact information is available on the “Session &

Committees” board in the fellowship area. Alternately

you can attend the Christian Education meeting in

August. That meeting will be August 4th at 7:00 pm in

the church. This is a wonderful opportunity to be the

hands and feet of Jesus.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the plans for a new church directory. This fall we will be completing a full color photo directory. The goal is to have the new directory completed and available to congregants in November. To attain this goal, there will be four days in September when a photographer will be here to do sittings with our congregation. We are already working on the layout for the directory, so by the time the sittings are complete the layout is also. Please watch the announcements, email blasts and bulletin boards for more information. Until the new photo directory is complete, there are text directories available at the ‘get involved’ table in the fellowship area.
