Did you know? Have youev e r wonde red whySeptember is not the 7thmonth, and October is notthe eighth? We all knowthat the prefix “Oct” meanseight, so it seems strangethat it is the 10th month. Inthe days of the RomanEmpire they introduced twomonths to commemoraterevered rulers. Thesemonths were inserted intothe calendar, displacing themonths named for theirchronological posit ion.August is one of thesemonths, named for CaesarAugustus.
Can you identify the othermonth named for a RomanEmperor?

The softball season rolls on, and teams are work-ing to identify their best line-ups for the playoffsnext month. Limiting errors will be key for the topteams to be successful. Talking in the outfield, identifying force-outs, and tagging-up on fly ballscan decide close games. This was the case in ahotly contested battle between E3 and G2 on July22nd. Both teams are stacked with dynamic ath-letes, and it was clear that organization would bean important factor in deciding the outcome. E3jumped out in the first inning with bats blazing, and found themselves up 3-0. G2 remained confi-dent, and clean-up hitter, Schuitt ripped one downthe 3rd base line, to bring in the first three batters.Their early rhythm was arrested by two backwards- Ks to end the first inning. Both teams competed, but the second half of their line-ups struggled atthe plate. In the end only one run separated thetwo teams with G2 winning 9-8. It was competitiveand positive, a fun one to watch.
H1 and G4 battled on the 5th, giving a possiblechampionship game preview. It was a dog fightwith red hot bats. G4 came out on top, 11-10. De-spite this difficult loss, a source inside the H1camp stated that they remain confident, and lookforward to another crack at their long time rivals.

INDOOR SOCCER
FUTBOL RAPIDO
The indoor soccer season is in full swing, andteams are fighting for supremacy. On the westside A3 has shown that prolific goal scorers canmake all the difference, allowing their team to giveup a few goals, and still come out on top. Llamasand Cochrane are dangerous anywhere on thepitch, but the standings show a virtual tie for firstbetween A3, B3, and A1.
The East side is proving to be contentious as well,as the top teams work to establish their positionsfor the playoff. G3’s Aviles has been too much tohandle for most defenses, and has led them to thetop of the leader board. H2 has been on a runwith three wins in the last two weeks. They havea skilled group with Lopez-Sosa controlling themiddle. H1, G2 and G4 are also still in the hunt. The G2 squad is fast and dangerous in transition. They have a good group that will continue to im-prove. The H1-H2 faceoff scheduled for thisweekend could have a profound effect on thestandings.
On the west side:
B1 and A1 are in a dog fight for first place. A1has the better win percentage but is trailing in thestandings. Their head-to-head match ups will de-termine each team’s road to the championship.

You might have heard the new acronym, MHC, beingbandied about at EOCI. It stands for “Mental HealthClinic.”
The MHC is designed to assist clients who are havingsymptoms, but might be waiting to meet with theirBehavioral Health Services (BHS) prescribers orQualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP). Barringanything unforeseen, clients are scheduled within 24 to48 hours after their kites are received.
Mental Health Clinic
M H C
This applies to clients who are not assigned mental healthcodes, as well.
Each month, a different QMHP runs the clinic, so don’tbe surprised if you see someone whom you might notknow. Please rest assured that your concerns will beheard, regardless of who meets with you.
To enter a request to be seen in the MHC, please sendyour kites in care of BHS and drop them in a Medical/BHS mailbox. They will be retrieved by health servicesstaff, stamped, and given to whoever is facilitating theMHC that month.
This procedure will in no way replace meeting with yourassigned BHS prescribers or QMHP’s. Instead, it isdesigned to evaluate you promptly and hopefully to wardoff increased symptoms.

Urban legends put to rest: The Daddy Long-Legs
Are Daddy Long Legs “spiders” venomous, but withfangs so small that they can’t break our skin?
The animals most commonly referred to as Daddy LongLegs are not spiders, or even insects, at all. They are partof the Arachnid family but in a different class. They are,in fact, called Harvestmen. They have 3 body sections, not two like spiders, and their legs have seven sectionswhich they can break off to surprise a predator. TheseHarvestmen are not venomous.
However, There is a second creature that entomologistssay is commonly referred to as a Daddy Longlegs. ThisPholcid is a venomous predator but they never naturallybite people. Their fangs are similar in structure to that ofa brown recluse, and therefore can theoretically punctureskin.
In 2004 “Mythbusters” stepped up to address this urbanlegend. The team set out to coax a daddy longlegs spiderinto biting the arm of the show’s co-host, Adam Savage.Their official conclusion was that the spider was able topenetrate Savage’s skin, and he reported nothing morethan a very mild burning sensation from the venom thatlasted just a few seconds. So for those of you who arescared of spiders (or in other words, reasonable and nor-mal people) you have nothing to worry about from thesecreepy critters.
