June 21, 22, and 23 were busy days for the Princeville Lions Club. These were Heritage Days, the town’s
annual celebraon, and the Princeville Lions Club has the food tent. For once, it was cooler than normal;
but, as usual the weather played an important part – it rained and was damp. On the good side, Friday
was not only cooler than normal, but was also dry. We had a good crowd. Everyone was glad to be out aer being cooped up with the damp and rainy weather. The pictures shown here give you an idea what Friday was like. We had sandwiches (buerfly
porkchops, pulled pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, and porkburgers; also, on Friday, there were chicken kebobs, and on Saturday, there were rib-eyes. We
worked hard, but had fun

The Avon Lions Club had a very full agenda for their June meeting. In addition to normal business items, the were some highlight moments. One of the highlights of the meeting had Kali Postin practicing for the Fulton County Fair Queen Contest by taking random questions from club members. While some of the questions were light and fairly easy to an-swer, some were probing and took some thought to answer. Kali did a great job of maturely answering every question and always with a big smile. Club members are proud to be her sponsor for the contest. Another highlight was when Lion Al Henning, representing Lions Clubs International Foundation presented a Melvin Jones Fellowship to Lion Kyle Underwood. The Fellowship was provided by the club members to thank and honor Lion Kyle for his service and for accepting the chairmanship of the club's major fund raising event; providing food service for the Fat Steer Show. The third highlight was the swearing in of 2018 - 2019 officers by President Lion Dave Tolley as follows: Li-ons Dave Schmalshof - President, Kirk Hunter - Vice President, Al Henning - Secretary, Dick Brown - Treas-urer, Trevor Sloan - Tail Twister, Dave Serven - Lion Tamer, Russ Dahms - Chaplin, Brian Backstrom - Membership Chairman and Glenn Potter and Bob Underwood - Directors.

president., On Tuesday, July 17, Avon Lions Barbara Baker, Joe Hendel, Al Henning and club president Dave
Schmalshof traveled to Camp Lions at Lake Bloomington to provide aer dinner sno cone treats to the 46 camp-

Did you know that, we had to wait unl 1987 before women became members of Lions. In 1987 was wrien a new chapter in the history of Lions. Women now got an opportunity to become members of Lion Clubs. Of course, over the years, women have been working side by side with men, oen through women’s clubs and in connecon with the men’s clubs acvies. The 1987 Convenon in Taipei, Taiwan, under the leadership of a Swede, Sten Åkestam, as this year was the Internaonal President of Lions, became the largest convenon held with approximately 35,000 parcipants. A decision was made of great importance. At the meeng, the delegates decided to amend the statutes and deleted the word ”man” in the statutes. Thus, even women can now become Lions and reach the high office within the organizaon, which has been proved nowadays, when Gudrun Yngvador from Iceland has been elected the 2018-2019 Interna-onal President. Not only is she a woman, she also comes from a small country with only a populaon in size with a city like my hometown Malmö.
Did you know, that the white sck – now an internaonally recognized blindness symbol – was invented by a Lions member from Peoria, Illinois, USA. It was George A Bonham as in 1930, when he was president of his club, observed how difficult the visually impaired had to cross the busy streets. The driver of the cars did not see the difference between blind and sighted. The scks did not differ from other scks. Bonham’s idea was that the scks of the blind should be painted white and provided with a red ribbon so that others could see that the own-
