Can you believe it’s August already? And the heat is on!! We had a great outing at the club this past month and plenty of opportunities to raft off and enjoy each other’s company! Sadly, because of the social distancing requirements and restrictions around COVID we have canceled our 2020 Regatta. However, we have been a club for 30 years, so check out our SWAG for a commemo-rative T-Shirt! So, we still have five months left this year. And opportunities for completing your work hours have been limited because of the COVID-19 restrictions. One great way to satisfy your work hours requirement would be to make a donation toward the YETI of CHEER RAFFLE. A Ten-dollar donation gets you an hour towards your WORK HOURS. See Kathy Hogan or any Bridge member for details. In July Lady Terri and I represented SunSeekers at the River View Yacht Club Commodore’s Reception Honoring Commodore Trent Ziemkiewicz. RVYC restricted invitees to just the 2020 Class Commodores and their guest, so the group was relatively small, and it was held indoors. It was great to see our class members! We also were happy to represent SunSeekers on July 25th at the Monroe Boat Club, celebrating their 75th year. The reception was open to our SSBC Club Bridge and Past Commodores. Jerry Church, Sergeant at Arms, VC Teri Upholzer and PC AYC/RC Jeff Upholzer represented the SSBC as well. The Commo-dore’s reception honoring Commodore Fred Hoitash and Lady Celeste was followed by an afternoon of entertainment and a Chicken/Steak Fry. We had a chance to stay for the festivities and helped out a bit for our good friends and watching the sunset over the harbor. I can’t believe it . . . we have all but sold out our docks for 2020! What a huge accomplishment for Sun-Seekers! Kudos to Dockmaster, Scott Boyd, and Lori Boyd for the outstanding job they are doing. Finally, the annual YETI of CHEER RAFFLE is underway. Tickets available at the club bar or from Ball committee members are just $10 and proceeds go towards the annual Commodore’s Ball in February. Be Safe and enjoy the Sun! A Pirate’s Life for me! Your 2020 Commodore, Jim Ryan

Hello SunSeeker’s! My heart is extra heavy writing this month’s newsletter. PC Al Drew was an amazing person whom I am so fortunate to have known. Al always had a smile on his face and his warm heart flowed through to you when he spoke. Al loved SunSeeker’s. He especially loved wearing his black Carhartt overalls that had his title and Commodore year embroidered on them. ☺ I will forever miss seeing him when we visit Big Al’s. Lady Carolyn, your SunSeeker’s family is always here for you. We love you both. In July, AYC RC Jeff and myself attended:
· Commodore Cocktail Parties at Monroe Boat Club and Riverview Yacht Club
· Pinckley Cup races at ORYC
· Class of 21 Get Together at TYC
· Burgee stealing with Fleet Captain Lenny, Lady Tracey, PC Sue Pitock & Gentleman Wayne
As we continue to slowly accustom ourselves to the new norm, we hope you enjoyed the Open Mic ses-sion with Acoustic Man Drew. Drew is a member of SSBC and provides this entertainment to us free of charge. When you see Drew, please let him know how much we appreciate all he does to get these ses-sions ready for us. A new band to SSBC, Caught in a Zipper, entertained us this month as well. It was a perfect night out for our first big event since reopening. We worked hard to ensure social distancing was available. The set up allowed an area for dancing, tents or umbrellas covering all the outside tables, and a tent was put up over some of the green space. The remainder of the green space was enjoyed by those who brought their own lawn chairs and some even brought their own hors d'oeuvres. With receiving positive responses from members, we plan to have this band back again in the near future, so stay tuned! MANY MANY thanks to ALL who helped set up, take down or jumped in to help out during the event. I know who you all are and wow, you are amazing! Also, a special shout out to Tamey Gorris, for lending SSBC tables and chairs from the Gibraltar Community Center. In keeping safety of our member’s first priority and the Governor’s mandates/restrictions the auction and regatta will not take place his year. An apology to our member’s who were holding on to items to donate. We sincerely regret feeling a need to cancel these events. For 2021, we are looking to fill a few Bridge positions; Rear Commodore, Fleet Captain and Sergeant at Arms. If you are interested in a running for one of these positions but would like further information, please see me or one of the bridge officers. Let’s keep those raft-offs going! It is so fun to join in on them and to see all the pictures! Stay safe on and off the water. VC Teri
