The task of each family is to provide food, shelter and other basic necessities during the four 15-minute weeksin the simulation while interacting with various community resources around the perimeter of the room. After the experience, individuals then have the opportunity to discuss what theyve learned with their peers. The Poverty Simulation is a tool that helps participants rethink the challenges that millions of low income individuals must face each and every day. Poverty Simulation

Sunday, September 19, 2021 4:15 pm – 7:00 pm

Location: Raleigh Baptist Association 820 S. New Hope Road, Raleigh, NC 27610

The Poverty Simulation breaks down the stereotypes often associated with poverty by allowing participants to step into real life simulated situations. Experience how complex and interconnected issues of poverty really are.

A single parent with limited resources and no transportation must find a way to get to work and get their child to daycare.

An elderly person must find a way to pay for both utilities and medication.

A young adult must care for siblings while their parent is incarcerated.

An elderly couple must raise their grandchildren and deal with their own health and employment is-sues.

During the simulation, participants are assigned roles as members of a low-income family or as a provider of a community resource (teacher, employer, etc.). To start the exercise, each family is given a card ex-plaining its unique circumstances and a small amount of money. The task of each family is to provide food, shelter and other basic necessities during the four 15-minute “weeks” in the simulation while interacting with various community resources around the perimeter of the room. After the experience, individuals then have the opportunity to discuss what they’ve learned with their peers. The Poverty Simulation is a tool that helps participants rethink the challenges that millions of low income individuals must face each and every day. More importantly, this tool helps people identify areas of change that can directly impact the effects of poverty on individuals, families and communities.

Worship and Devotion: Rev. Allen Moody Mrs. Anne Moody Dr. Patrick Fuller

We will have a special time of worship that will focus our time together on bringing praise and honor to our Lord. This time of worship will be offered musically, under the leadership of our RBA Music Director, Rev. Allen Moody. It will be accompanied by Mrs. Ann Moody.

We will be blessed to worship in the word of God with scripture and a devotional challenge offered by our RBA Executive Director, Dr. Patrick Fuller. This special time of worship will provide an atmosphere of worship in unity as we gather together as Christian senior adults for one common purpose, to bring glory to God.
