August 21, 2020 Dear Scottsbluff Families, Panhandle Public Health/Unified Command has provided all school districts with specific criteria to be used during this COVID-19 time period for the screening, exclusion and re-admittance of ill students and staff. This information is used throughout Nebraska and is attached. Because people with COVID-19 have reported a wide range of symptoms – ranging from mild to severe illness – the attached criteria has been developed for schools to assist us in identifying possible COVID- 19 cases. As a district, we will be utilizing these recommendations in order to make sure that we maintain the health and safety of our students and staff and evaluate students in a consistent manner. We are anxious to work with all families to achieve two primary goals that are both aimed at keeping our students and staff in school: 1) Keep our students and staff healthy; and 2) Reduce the likelihood of spread and quarantines. Should your child display symptoms that are considered a “possible COVID-19 case” as described, there are three options for school readmittance as indicated on the attached sheet. In order to shorten the exclusion period, it will be important to consult with a healthcare professional to provide us a note identifying an alternative diagnosis. This, along with improved symptoms, will allow your child to be readmitted early. After reviewing the attached chart, we suggest that you put it aside in an easily referenced location and use it as a guide should your child become ill. We also recommend that you predetermine an available walk-in clinic that reasonably meets your personal needs in terms of cost, insurance and availability of appointments. While we cannot recommend any specific provider, some walk-in clinics in Scottsbluff include examples (in alphabetical order) Complete Care Family Practice (713 1/2 West 27th Street, 633-2273); QuickCare Medical Services (3210 Avenue B, 630-0800), and Regional West Physicians’ Clinic Urgent Care (3911 Avenue B, 632-2215). It will then be important that you follow these steps: Report these symptoms to the school (in circumstances when the school is not notifying you); Explore the potential of securing an alternative diagnosis that will allow us to readmit your child. If we find that we need to send your child home due to illness associated with two or more of these symptoms, you will receive a phone call and a completed form indicating reasons and all pertinent dates. If you choose to make an appointment with a medical professional, please take this form with you. We are here to help. If you have questions, please reach out to your building principal or registered nurse. Best regards, Lynne Adams, RN SBPS Health Services Coordinator

Dear Scottsbluff Families,

Panhandle Public Health/Unified Command has provided all school districts with specific criteria to be used during this COVID-19 time period for the screening, exclusion and re-admittance of ill students and staff. This information is used throughout Nebraska and is attached.

Because people with COVID-19 have reported a wide range of symptoms – ranging from mild to severe illness – the attached criteria has been developed for schools to assist us in identifying possible COVID-19 cases.

It will then be important that you follow these steps: • Report these symptoms to the school (in circumstances when the school is not notifying you);• Explore the potential of securing an alternative diagnosis that will allow us to readmit your child.

If we find that we need to send your child home due to illness associated with two or more of these symptoms, you will receive a phone call and a completed form indicating reasons and all pertinent dates. Public Health Recommendations

for the Screening, Exclusion, and

Re-Admittance of Ill Students and

Staff for COVID-19 in Schools

The following symptom screening criteria for ill students and staff is based on the most current research. Because people with COVID-19 have reported a wide range of symptoms – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness – the following criteria has been developed to assist schools in identifying possibleCOVID-19 cases.

Students and staff who meet criteria should immediatelyisolate in the designated area and be sent home assoon as possible. Require the symptomatic person to wear a surgical or procedure mask while waiting, iftolerable.

Re-Admittance to School

Symptomatic staff /student who tests positive:

Symptomatic staff /student not tested:

Symptomatic staff /student who tests negative:

Exclude for: - At least 10 days sincesymptoms first appearedAND:- At least 24 hours with nofever without fever-reducingmedicationAND:- Symptoms have improved

Exclude for: - At least 10 days sincesymptoms first appearedAND:- At least 24 hours with nofever without fever-reducingmedicationAND:- Symptoms have improvedOR- May return to school if analternative diagnosis isestablished with a health careprovider's note.

Exclude until fever free for 24 hours (or meets the schools’ requirements for readmission) AND improved respiratory symptoms

There is no reason for a student or staff member to get a “negative test” to be cleared for the return to school. A COVID-19 positive individual does not need a repeat COVID- 19 test or a health care provider's note in order to return. Recovery will be determined and communicated to the school by public health.

Students and Staff with two of the following: fever(measured or subjective), chills, cold/shivering, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea OR:At least one of the following: new cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, loss of taste and smell OR:Has at least one symptom and answers yes to: Is there someone in your household who is currently in quarantine or currently positive for COVID-19?

Exclude for 10 days from date of test AND only allow to return if no symptoms develop. If symptoms develop, refer to symptomatic positive instructions.

Asymptomatic staff /student who tests positive:
