FPCP is working more closely with our Presbytery and its program for the 13,000 children living in foster care in Michigan. Our prayer ministry can help by praying for a special child each month. This month we are praying for 15 year old Shantaina. Her workers describe her as shy, sweet and creative. She loves to cook and bake. Shantaina loves staying active and participates in Zumba; she states that gym is her favorite class in school. Due to her past trauma, Shantaina struggles to feel safe around others but is working on how to feel more secure. More info on Shantaina can be found at Mare.org. If you are interested in helping with our foster care projects, please call Peggy at 734.953.1044.

HOSPITALITY

Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) Update – August 19, 2018 We have been so blessed to interact with such wonderful candidates. God is doing amazing things through so many faithful and dedicated disciples and ministries! It is truly humbling and inspiring. The highlight of the month has been face-to-face visits with two candidates in their home churches, witnessing these teaching elders in their sanctuaries – greeting, preaching, administering sacraments, rejoicing together. In addition to worship, we toured facilities and shared a meal with the candidate and spouse. What a wonderful way to build relationships outside the constraints of meeting room walls and video conferencing. We also have received a new batch of Personal Information Forms (PIFs) from the PC(USA) Church Leadership System and have placed an advertisement in the Presbyterian Outlook. We are diligently and prayerfully reviewing all applicants – narratives, faith statements and sermons. We look forward to continued dialogue with our candidates, conducting interviews, and sharing in discernment with outstanding ministers. We treasure your continued prayers for the PNC and for our candidates! In Christ, Kathy Bernard Kurt Boeve James Davidson Sandy Dodge Kiki Farrow Paula Ford Steve Marulis Dana Stonerook Tom Weaver

The 2018–2019 PW/Horizons Bible study, “God’s Promise: I Am with You,” takes readers on a nine-lesson journey through scripture to consider how God’s promise (“I will be with you”/”I am with you”) speaks to our circumstances, as individuals and a community. We will also consider Jesus’ own promise of presence to his followers as he sends us into this world. As we explore the many facets of this most profound gift, we will ask, how does God’s promise of presence change us and the way we live? Sign up sheet for class is on the Life Long Learning bulletin board by the elevator. All women are welcome.
