On This Day in History1609 – Delaware Bay was discovered by Henry Hudson.1898 – Caleb Bradham invented the carbonated soft drink
that became known as “Pepsi Cola.”1907 – “American Messenger Company” was started by two
teenagers, Jim Casey and Claude Ryan. The name was later changed to “United Parcel Service.”
1922 – The first radio commercial aired on WEAF in New York City. The Queensboro Realty Company bought 10 minutes of air time for $100.
1963 – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech at a civil rights rally in Washington, DC.
Box Tops for Education
The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn
them in to your PE/Health teacher.
Cross-Country Tryouts
Tryouts will be held after school until 4:30 pm. Please see Mr. Rumbaugh (Room 227) or Mrs. Ryan (Gym) if you are
unable to tryout today. Permission slips are in the rack
outside the Main Office.
PTO Treat DaysOrder forms and payment for this year’s PTO Treat Days are due by Friday, September 8th!
ChorusSign-ups for Chorus will be held this week
during all lunch periods. Our first meeting and practice will be held Thursday after school
from 3:15-4:05 pm.
Girls Softball
Our first game is tomorrow at 4:00 pm at Century Junior High! A meeting for all parents will be held after the
game.
Boys Softball
Practice today after school until 4:30. Come out and cheer for the
boys at their first home game tomorrow at 4:00
pm against Century!
Cross Country
Cross Country will practice today until 4:30 pm.
Practice tomorrow until 4:15 pm, followed by a
parent meeting from 4:30-4:45 pm.
PTO Hot Dog DaysCompleted order forms and payment for this year’s Hot Dog days are due
Friday, August 31st.
Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge
Last year Grissom Patriots saved over 6,600 plastic water bottles
from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. Please
remember to use these instead of plastic bottles. So far this year,
we’ve saved 481 bottles from landfills! Let’s beat last year’s total!
