USBC Coaching Update:ARLINGTON, Texas USBC Coaching will launch a new program

early next year to re-certify coaches and also will begin a requisite con-

tinuing education program to keep bowling coaches up to date on the lat-

    est technology and coaching techniques.

The program will require USBC Gold, Silver and Bronze coaches who

were certified prior to Jan. 1, 2006 to take an online certification test by

Aug. 1, 2011 to maintain their status. Level I coaches do not have to be

    re-certified.

Coaches also will be required to continue their education through a

variety of ways such as seminars, online courses and other programs to

    maintain their certification.

With more than 42,000 USBC certified coaches, it is important for

USBC to identify the coaches who are active in teaching the sport and

also continuing to learn about lane play, ball motion, the physical game

    and other dynamics.

We have many great coaches out there and through this process wecan make certain that bowlers will receive the best coaching available

and proprietors will know what coaches they can call on to teach in their

centers, said USBC Director of Coaching David Garber.

There is no cost for the USBC Gold, Silver and Bronze coaches to take

the certification tests, which are expected to be available online by early

2011. The tests will consist of multiple choice, true/false, essay and

    some video aspects.

Coaches will have until Aug. 1, 2011, to take the test. After they have

passed the test, coaches will be required to take continuing education

classes during the next three years. The continuing education require-

ments, endorsed by the United States Olympic Committee, will be mod-

eled after such organizations as the National Athletic Trainers

    Association.

Through an assortment of classes, seminars, etc., coaches will earn

credits toward their continuing education requirements. At the end of the

three-year period, coaches will be randomly audited to ensure they are

staying current with the latest trends and coaching methods.Go to the Coaching page of BOWL.com for further information about

the new programs. You also can click here to see Frequently Asked

    Questions about the programs.

ARLINGTON, Texas The 2010 United States Bowling Congress Youth

Open wrapped up and the team title went to an all-girls team led by former

Junior Team USA member Jessica Earnest.

More than 2,000 youth bowlers participated in the USBC Youth Open,

sponsored by Pepsi, which was held at Expo Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind. The

non-qualifying tournament is patterned after the USBC Open

Championships and USBC Womens Championships. Youth bowlers com-

peted in team (four players), doubles, singles and all-events during the 11

    days of competition.

Earnest, of Vandalia, Ill., rolled a 685 series as the team named USA Girls

had games of 830, 803, and 896 for a 2,529 total to take the Division I team

title. Liz Siebel of Hellertown, Pa., and Dayna Galganski of Orlando, Fla.,

each had a 624 series, and Brittni Hamilton of Webster, N.Y., a current Junior

Team USA member who won the girls division at the 2010 Junior GoldChampionships, contributed a 596 series.

Teams can be all boys, all girls or a combination, since teams are not divid-

ed by gender. Earnest said the USA Girls team was done spur of the moment.

She had planned to bowl doubles with Hamilton, a teammate at Vanderbilt,

and they asked Galganski and Seibel to join them for the team event. Each of

the USA Girls competed in the USBC Junior Gold Championships in

Indianapolis before joining together at the Youth Open.

"All four of us had made top15 at Junior Gold and we were tired, Earnest

said. But we were paired up with a really good team and we had fun.

The Rochester Four, with team members Michelle Secours of East

Rochester, N.Y., Kaitlin Quinn of Livonia, N.Y., Cory Barber of Rochester,

N.Y., and Jacob Kent of Newark, N.Y., were second at 2,439.

The USA Girls success didnt stop with the team title. Earnest claimed the

    girls Division I all-events title with a 2,053 total (a 228 average for nine

games) to edge Breanna Moree (2,007) of Pittsburgh, Pa. Galganski was

third in all-events followed by Brandi Branka of Momence, Ill., with Seibel

placing fifth. The all-events score is the bowlers combined score from sin-gles, doubles and team.

I honestly wasnt thinking all-events; I was just happy to be bowling

well, Earnest said. I didnt even think about what I was doing. I was just

going out there to make people laugh and have a good time. Thats what the

    Youth Open is all about.

In doubles, Ronnie Fujita of El Sobrante, Calif., and David Shaefer of

Manteca, Calif., took the title with a 1,471 total with the four members of

USA Girls taking the next two spots. Earnest (761) and Hamilton (698) com-

bined for 1,459 to take second while Galganski (658) and Seibel (763) were

    third with 1,421.

Nicolas Sutherland of Grand Blanc, Mich., had games of 269, 221 and 278

for a 768 total to edge A.J. Chapman of Manchester, Iowa, by one pin for the

boys Division I singles title. Matthew Brannan of Wetumpka, Ala., was third

    with a 765 series.

Chapman won the boys Division I all-events title with a 2,016 total while

Brannan tied Richard Farrington of Rochester, N.Y., for second at 1,971.

All results are unofficial pending verification of averages. The Youth Open will award approximately $100,000 in scholarships this

year. The tournament had four average-based divisions (129 and below, 130-

159, 160-189 and 190 and above) so participants were matched according to

skill, not age or gender. Scores were based on actual pinfall and one out of

every five entrants in team, doubles and singles will receive scholarships,

while one in six will receive scholarships in all-events.

Brittni Hamilton Earns Silver in Girls Singles

At World Youth ChampionshipsHELSINKI, Finland - Junior Team USA's Brittni Hamilton of Webster, N.Y., earned the silver medal in girls

singles in the opening event at the 2010 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Youth Championships.

Yeon-Ju raced out to a commanding lead in the match, taking a 65-pin advantage after six frames and rolled

to the title with ease at Tali Bowl.

"I had a couple of shots early that I thought were good that just didn't react like I thought they would and it

cost me," Hamilton said. "I kind of got lost in the beginning of the match, but I'm not disappointed at all. I

know that medaling at all is a big accomplishment."

Hamilton advanced to the semifinals with a thrilling overtime victory against top seed Carmen Haandrikman

of the Netherlands. Haandrikman needed just seven pins on her final shot to eliminate Hamilton but got six

appearance at the World Youth Championships. The 18-year-old opened with games of 203, 220 and 182

before hitting his stride and finishing with 248, 220 and 235.

    "I started the first couple

games really fast because this is

a big tournament and I wanted

to do my best; I lost sight of

    things," Koff said. "The last

three games, I calmed down andfelt like I threw it really well.

    Danny Bivin Tops North Arlington

Adult/Youth Doubles North Arlington, NJ Fourteen-year-old Danny Bivin outscored other

juniors in North Arlingtons Adult-Youth Doubles play to garner Bowler

of the Week honors. His eleven sticks above average outing was enough

to get his Bacon Boys past Boom Boom Pow and undisputed possession

    of third place.

Meanwhile, youth kegler Bryan Valentin can be thankful his eighteen-

year-old partner Nick Gavron remained on fire, scorching the maples

with a season-high 742 on solid scores of 257-237-246, lifting his aver-

age to a gaudy 215. When the smoke cleared, this dynamic duo had once

again swept their opponents, leaving their Bosch Beastin team in firm

    control of first place.

Rounding out the evenings action, the Bowling Bombers snapped a

recent slump with a whitewash of Saute Two, lifting them into third

    place.

    North Arlington, NJ Twelve-

    year-old Chris McBride came

through with a strong finish to

lead Boom Boom Pow to a

    come-from-behind 5-2 win over

    Saute Two; junior Sam Passaro

    rolled the sessions best over

    average game in fashioning

    Saute Twos opening game tri-

    umph in North Arlingtons

    closed with the nights high

    game among the young keglers

as he helped the Bacon Boys sal-

vage a third game victory over

    league-leading Bosch Beastin.

    Elsewhere, despite dropping

total wood by a scant three pins,

    the Double Strikers moved into

second place by capturing two of

    three games from the Bowling

    Bombers.

    Over average juniors were Sam

    Passaro +23, Danny Bivin +8

and Chris McBride +5. Bestamong their adult partners were
