With the thermometer clearly showing that summer is now upon us, motorcycle rider’s thoughts inevitably turn toward the granddaddy rally of them all, The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which is celebrating it’s 70th anniversary in 2010!

2010 also marks over four decades of Custom Chrome being in the v-twin parts and accessories aftermarket business. In fact, 2010 marks an award-winning year for Custom Chrome with the company accepting the prestigious V-Twin Expo Industry Leader Award at The V-Twin Expo earlier in the year. Custom 1” Handlebars by Biltwell Inc.Biltwell handlebars are precision crafted with 100% seamless 4130 chromoly. The wall thickness of our tubing is a burly .120“. Most bars are available smooth for custom applications, or with dimples to accomodate original equipment throttle, brake and clutch assemblies. Exhaust tips by BiltwellTriumph guru and faithful Biltwell supporter Wes White had a great idea: make some stylish exhaust tips to dress up the look of standard 1-3/4” straight pipes. We agreed with Wes, and asked him to design a set. The velocity stack on an old Amal carb inspired Wes’s classic design. We were so inspired by Wes’s idea, we designed three tips of our own. All four Biltwell exhaust tip sets are machined from 6061 T-6 aluminum and press fit inside any 1-3/4-inch O.D. straight pipe perfectly. We recommend drilling and screw-ing the tip to the pipe to complete installation, but we leave this step to the discretion of the builder. After CNC machining, each tip set is sandblasted to a dull neutral finish, then black or silver anodized for protection and appearance. After anodizing, we laser etch the Biltwell brand and model ID into each tip. This laser etching is hidden inside the exhaust pipe when the tips are installed. Sold in pairs.

Custom Chrome President and CEO Holger Mohr was looking to give his

2007 FLHX I a new look. Holger wanted to build a bike that had an aggressive

yet timeless look but also had a performance edge. He had to look no further

than to Custom Chrome’s own Product Line Manager Rich Fulk to help

complete his vision. An accomplished builder as well, Rich helped Holger nail

a design that would showcase the style and performance factor Holger was

looking for.

Many of the products chosen for the bagger build were new to the Custom

Chrome catalog in 2010. Parts such as the ‘Midnight Series” RevTech Billet

Wheels, 4-piston RevTech brakes & CCI/PYO 1-pc Stretched Bagger tank

would just be hitting the catalog and store shelves. Also part of the build

would be a new BDL beltdrive and new high performance, race inspired

products from Thundermax and Rinehart Racing. Of course Le Pera,

Cyclesmiths, Arlen Ness and Hawg Wired accessories would help round out

the great looks part of the process.

The bike, now with its new bolt on custom parts, was ready to be finished off

with an awesome paint job from Kirk Taylor of Custom Design Studio. The

new paint truly set this machine off with its sinister suede silver & black paint

with gold leafing and pin panels that keeps the elegant feel flowing. In the end

the “Boss” was more than pleased with the outcome, so it looks like Rich will

get to keep his job for a little while longer!

As a complete contrast to the bagger build that was going on, Rich was also rebuilding his own 2004 FXSTB which was in need of a face lift. This platform was yet another chance to feature some great new products available through Custom Chrome. It also turned out to be a great R&D opportunity. Rich’s bike is set off by killer gold leaf flames over a raw metal finish. It also features a set of ‘Midnight Series” RevTech Billet Wheels, CCI/Xzotic ‘Panhead’ rocker boxes, Vulcan Engineering 41mm Mid-Glide triple trees, BDL beltdrive, Willwood brakes, Motogadget LED speedo, and a handful of cool new parts from Cycle Kraft. Keep an eye out for some of the other prototype parts developed during this build to be available soon to bolt on to your own bike.

“We have been looking at South America for some time and opening this new office fits with our corporate goals of expanding both domestically and globally and becoming a dealer’s ‘Preferred Industry Partner’ no matter where the shop is located,” states CEO and President Holger Mohr. “With entrenched offices and distribution like we have on other continents and in other countries, having new expansion in developing markets just makes sense. Always an industry leader, Custom Chrome will be the anchor vendor at the CUSTOM CHROME VILLAGE at the J&P 8th St Lot. Located between 8th and 9th Street’s on Lazelle at this year’s 70th Anniversary of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the Village will feature many special vendors and a staffed motorcycle service areas for your convenience.

Custom Chrome will have on display products from each in-house brand including RevTech, Santee, Jammer, and MotorFactory as well as select parts and accessories from the best manufacturers from around the world, including Paul Yaffe’s new Stretched Bagger Tank and Rinehart’s True Dual Exhaust.

Also on display will be the two extra special, one-off custom bikes celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Custom Chrome, the “Speedway Bagger” built by Kirk Taylor and Cole Foster’s 70’s inspired Chopper. Custom Chrome will also have never before seen personal bikes from the Custom Chrome staff featuring select CCI parts from the expansive 2010 CCI catalog.

Along with Custom Chrome, a select number of com-panies will also be on hand to discuss their latest and answer questions. Companies like Rinehart, Phantom Pad, Wicked Image, K&N, National Cycle, Cycle Sounds, Avon Grips and Xtreme Charge will be on Lazelle during the Rally.

In addition, what better way to make sure your ride is ready to go than to get a J&P oil change using high performance RevTech products at the RevTech Oil Change Center! There will be a full maintenance center as well for any other service you may need and a con-venient shuttle back and forth to the main J&P Store.
