Hi Key Club Hillers!

Are you enjoying your summer? The Grossmont Key Club officers certainly are! It’s good to be in the sun and at the beach again. However, school is inching closer. Yes, we all hate to see our summer going away soon, but all good things must come to an end eventually!

Have a fun, restful, and SAFE rest of summer! The Key Club officers are excited for the new year and hope to see an exciting new body of returning members! Buzzin’ out, Brianna Lam, Grossmont Key Club Newsletter Editor 2011-12

2 Grossmont Key Club’s August 2011 Newsletter

Last month, Grossmont was named Divisional Club of the Month with the most Robo Points! Robo Points are points awarded to clubs who fulfill their duties accordingly and complete work and service promptly and efficiently. Grossmont is very proud to have won this honor! If we continue to lead in Robo Points, it will be a powerful indicator of Grossmont’s strong comeback.

We have many plans in place to ensure our club’s strong run. This month, our school will be hosting a Freshmen Orientation for incoming ninth graders. This is a great opportunity to show our freshmen what Key Club is all about. We plan to create posters and more to advertise our presence on campus. We want as many underclassmen as possible! They are the ones who will grow to take our place as future Key Club leaders. Key Club derives its strength and pride from its membership. More members mean more service, enabling Grossmont Key Club to earn more Robo Points and continue to serve our local and global community. Key Club Hillers are encouraged to submit any photos they take at our events with a small caption describing the picture and identifying the event at which it was taken. Hillers are also welcome to submit monthly articles of their favorite monthly events. Each submission will earn our club five Robo Points! These alone are very easy ways to contribute to our club, as they do not require that much effort and encourage a drive for Key Club spirit, unity, and fulfillment through service! Articles and visuals are to be submitted to our Divisional Tech Editor at [email protected].

UPDATES

Hey, Grossmont Key Clubbers! We

hope you are enjoying a very good and safe

summer, but remember:

school starts on September 6th!

ROBO POINTS AND UNDERCLASSMEN

FALL RALLY We’re hoping to get our growing membership excited for our District’s annual Fall Rally, where

CNH District Key Clubs in California, Nevada, and Hawaii get together to battle off in a Spirit Rally and fundraise for our District’s Project SHINE. Grossmont Key Club will be participating in Fall Rally South at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Division 31, to which we belong, NEEDS TO WIN THE SPIRIT STICK THIS YEAR! Yes, we very much need to win it. So, it’s up to our members to help us reach this goal by blasting out our divisional pride with our Robots with Hearts at Fall Rally!

Make sure to purchase your tickets early! Early bird tickets will only cost twenty-seven dollars for current or potential members! Tickets purchased on the day of the event will cost thirty-one dollars, so please be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible!

Want to be an excellent leader in the future? You should definitely sign up to attend Key Leader! What is Key Leader? It’s a three-day leadership camp that is held yearly for students who wish to learn fundamental skills in becoming a good leader.

This year the camp will be held in Julian from October 21st to the 23rd, 2011. This is a perfect opportunity for potential student leaders residing in San Diego, since the camp is a mere two-hour drive away. However, space is limited, so if you’re interested, please visit their website at www.key-leader.org for more information.

If you feel the camp tuition costs will be difficult for you or your family to pay, feel free to notify one of your officers, as they will help you to contact our sponsoring Lake Murray Kiwanis Club in regards to scholarships that could end up covering most of the tuition. We highly suggest you consider attending this camp, because not only is it an unbelievably fun, life-changing experience, it will also help you to build essential leadership skills for the future.

3 Grossmont Key Club’s August 2011 Newsletter

As most of you know, Divisions 31 and 21 held a joint July DCM at Mission Beach on July 16th, 2011. We are very proud to announce that our club had the most members in attendance from our Division with a total of nine members. There were plenty of games and opportunities to socialize throughout our time together, and each and every Key Clubber had a great time. Members were able to meet fellow Key Clubbers from distant schools such as Mira Mesa High and University City High. We also learned from divisional and regional leaders about the success of last year’s International Convention, held in Phoenix, Arizona in June. Grossmont Key Club was honored to win Divisional Club of the Month with Stephen Sena, Club Secretary, winning the corresponding Divisional Member of the Month.

Our Lieutenant Governor, Donna Sounevongsa, brought us up to date with the most recent updates, focusing mainly on awareness for upcoming Fall Rally. She requested event planning and encouraged us to reach out to potential future members, especially incoming freshmen. She introduced Robo Points, awarded by Donna to clubs that complete their tasks on time, and wrapped up by notifying us that our Regional Training Conference will take place on October 29th, 2011 at Taft Middle School.

All in all, everyone had a great time, and it was definitely the highlight of last month’s activity and the epitome of our monthly growth.

PAST AND UPCOMING EVENTS

The August DCM took place at Helix High School in Room 202 on August 13th, 2011. We covered many assorted topics, including Pediatric Trauma Prevention, Project ELIMINATE, Project SHINE, Fall Rally, and District Convention. Our Lieutenant Governor set goals and planned for the new school year. Although it was a more serious DCM, it helped to ensure a strong start to the new school year.
