KEY CLUB
Letter From Your Editor
Dear Key Club Members,
We are a month away from school! Excited? I dare say so, key
club will be having their first meeting in September. Thank you to
those members who attended the Hong Kong Dragon Boating
Festival on August 14th despite the wet weather. Great dedication
and commitment is what we want to see in all our members.
Remember to fill out the Member Information Sheet (MIS). It is
very important that you hand that in with your dues in September.
Email the board if you have any questions regarding the MIS!
At events, I see members taking photos and I wonder, where
do they go? On facebook? Don’t be shy! Please send any photos
you have from events to [email protected]. These photos are
essential for the newsletter and for promoting Key Club. On another
note, please send me articles! Write about the event you attended;
who was there, what was the event for, how did you feel, what did
you do, likes/dislike, just express it all in writing. Send your articles to
[email protected] and you can be featured in The Beaver Tree.

SUMMER READING STILL
Kids from low-income families lose more than three times as much learning
during summer as their middle-income peers; by fifth grade, they can be as
much as two years behind in reading, according to the Boys & Girls Clubs of
America. But your Kiwanis-family club can easily make a difference this
summer by joining with the Boys & Girls Clubs and Walmart in making a
promise to read.
To make sure every kid starts the new school year ready to succeed, Boys &
Girls Clubs have partnered with Walmart to provide books to kids this summer
in exchange for your promise to read with a child. For every five promises
made, Walmart will put a book in the hands of a child, up to 1,500 books total.
Help keep kids smart this summer by telling everyone you know to make a
promise worth reading. Visit The Boys & Girls Club of America to make yours.
Get up and help fight childhood obesity (and have fun, too!)
Get ready, get set, get out and play! Turn off your TV and video games on
Sept. 24, and join other kids in Nickelodeon’s 8th annual Worldwide Day of
Play. Your club can pick any fun, physical activity that you enjoy doing –
dancing, playing Frisbee, hula-hooping, swimming, or roller skating to name a
few – and create your own Worldwide Day of Play event. Invite other club
members, classmates and friends to participate. Need more ideas? Check out
pro-social.nick.com. And while you’re online, don’t forget to register
at nick.com/thebighelp for a chance to see your group’s name on TV!
Here’s something you can do to help
Key Club International help others!

[email protected] telling him that you enjoyed it. This way, if
he gets a large amount of good feedback, he will continue
making these video updates (Note: These updates will be
