Pastor Emeri-tus RonHigdon willbe preachingin both ser-vices on Sun-day, Aug. 8.His topic will

be It is Ab-solutely Es-sential, But

Extremely Difficult, and will bebased on 1 Corinthians 3:5-9. Ronwill also be with us to celebrateBroadways 140th anniversary onSept. 12.

The Higdons finally got the chance tosettle back into their Louisville homethis summer. Since retiring fromBroadway as pastor, Ron has beenserving as an Intentional Interim forchurches in Kentucky, Texas andGeorgia. An Intentional Interim typi-

cally serves a church full time forclose to two years. Especially afterlong pastorates, they are called in tohelp churches make transitions as theyprepare for new pastoral leadership.

Ron tells me hell continue lookingfor opportunities to serve in the Louis-ville area, but he and Pat hope theirdays of long stays in other cities arefinished.

Ill be suffering for our Lord in Ha-waii for a little over a week in earlyAugust. Once every six years, theBaptist World Alliance (BWA) has itsbig international gathering. Thousandsof Baptists from around the world will

be there, and I will be attending asone of three delegates from the Coop-erative Baptist Fellowship (CBF).Every other year for the past six years,CBF has funded my participation inthe annual BWA gatherings. This, however, will be my last BWA meet-ing representing CBF. I look forwardto being back in the pulpit on Aug. 15.

We had a great week of Vacation Bi-ble School. My thanks to BeckyCaswell-Speight and to the manyyouth and adults who volunteered somany hours to turn Broadway intoEgypt for a week!

Finance Committee Mid-Year ReviewFrom Brad Thomas, Finance Committee Chair

As of June 30, 2010, Broadway hascollected $465,565 in tithes and offer-ings. Our budget through June 30 is

$467,844, so through this date, we areonly $2,279 short of our budget. Com-pared to 2009, we had collected$503,351 for the first six months, sowe are behind last year by $37,786.

Moving forward, our budget for thenext six months is $524,435$58,870 higher than the first sixmonths of 2010. As of the writing ofthis article, we have collected $48,007in July against our monthly budget of$70,459. Our $2,279 shortfall throughJune 30 has now grown to a $24,731shortfall. We have a long way to go tomeet our annual budget of $990,000.

There is a positive note to our fi-nances for this year. Our total ex-penses for the first six months are$460,648, while we had budgeted tospend $480,641so we have spent$19,993 less than budgeted so far. Also, for the first six months of 2009,

we spent $507,614 and have spent$46,966 less this year. This is due inpart to expense controls by our staff

and committees. The Finance Com-mittee thanks you!

1 Corinthians 12:27 says Now you

are Christs body and individuallymembers of it. That verse has beenlived out by you as you have minis-tered to Wayne and me over the last

several months. Our words are sim-ply insufficient to describe the depthof what we have felt. Every timeone of you walked through that hos-pital door, every card you sent, every phone call made reminded usof love. We have been strengthenedby your constant prayers, uplifted byyour continuing support, and sus-tained by the wonderful meals youhave prepared for us since our returnhome.

We thank God for Waynes con-tinuing recovery and we thank Godthat we are blessed by such a won-derful church family. You haveshared our journey with compas-sion, understanding, and patience.Someone once asked me if Ithought there were really angelssent by God. My reply, our reply, isabsolutely. Edge Outreach Water Ball UpdateIn June, Broadway members provided Edge Outreach with funds toproduce a prototype of a water ball to help people in impoverished ar-

eas transport 25 gallons of water down dirt roads and paths to theirhomes. Edge Outreach reports that 30 water balls were loaded onto theUSS Iwo Jima and were received in Port au Prince, Haiti, around July25. They will be distributed to people in Haiti for field testing.

Here are notes from the water ball inventor and the Edge staff:

I am a pragmatic man of reason and intelligence; however, it is dueonly to the glorious mysteries of God that we have come to knoweach other, and for this I thank Him. I thank Him for our human limi-tations that allow us to marvel at His will. I cannot be certain that mywork is His will. But, I do believe that our attempt to please Himdoes in fact please Him, and for that I thank you. I thank the people

of Broadway Baptist for their support, because alone I cannot do thework I was made to do.

May the peace of Christ be with you,

    Kyle Hunter, Water Ball Inventor

    Dear Broadway Baptist Church,

We, at EDGE, want to thank you for your donation. Your support andconfidence in EDGE is the backbone of our cause. EDGE and every-one we help would like to thank you. God Bless You,
