Pine Lake Country Club Since 1952 | Country Life . . . Club Setting
From the General ManagerFor all of you who attended our mid-year meeting Wednesday night “thank you”!I hope you found the meeting and conversation informative. The PowerPoint presen-tation and slideshow will be available on the clubs website, as well as a full listing of committees and the chairpersons contact information.
As we begin August, I would like to thank you for an amazing July 4th holiday. I had heard a lot about this day and what a big tradition it represents. I have to say it was the best day I have had at Pine Lake. It was great to see so many of you spending time together. I would like to thank the Board of Directors for volunteering their time to sit in the dunk tank.
The survey results are in! The Strategic Planning Committee would like to thank you all for taking the survey. We had just over 430 members respond. We will compile the data and share the results with all of you in the coming weeks. This valuable informa-tion will assist our Board of Directors in guiding the club into the future. Congratula-tions to those of you who took the survey and were chosen as our drawing winners. Please enjoy your gift certificates.
Our new marketing video will soon be on the clubs website and our Facebook page. The video opens with an amazing bird’s eye view of Pine Lake and closes with a spec-tacular sunset over the course and Charlotte in the distance. Additionally, this fall we will shoot a hole by hole video of the property. I hope you enjoy the video and please be sure to share this with your friends. For all of you who volunteered to assist with the production of this video, thank you, we greatly appreciate your support.
In closing, I would ask you to please bring a friend to Pine Lake and let them experi-ence how special your club is. For the health of the club we need you to bring in new members.
My team and I look forward to seeing you at the club!
Sincerely,
TravisTravis Dale General Manager

Course Reportby Richard McDanel, Certified Golf Course Superintendent
The end of summer is in sight! The greens are still hanging in there, even with the elevated temperatures. The difference is the 3.3 inches of rain recorded this June and July. In 2010 when bentgrass suffered greatly, we recorded 16.5 inches during the same period and experi-enced 87 days above 90 degrees by summer’s end. Rainwater is better than lake water, but too much of either is not good. The perfect scenario would be low temperatures in the 60’s and 1 inch of rain each week accumulating on the same day.
The high temperatures from the first of June through late-July were averaging 92.4 degrees. This is the highest on record. Charlotte recorded 13 days over 98 degrees and 5 days at 100 or more. Let’s hope August is kinder.
Sodding cart path edges is moving along nicely. Two more loads are scheduled by the end of August and that should have the course looking great. The ongoing watering until we get sufficient rainfall is our main focus.
I would like to thank everyone for their support and with big thanks going out to the Monday divot volunteers for keeping our fairways in excellent condition through the tedious job of filling each divot by hand.

This certification represents a standard of excellence in his field. Richard Mc-Danel, Golf Course Superintendent at Pine Lake Country Club has completed his fourth renewal of certification through the Golf Course Superintendents As-sociation of America. A superintendent must first be employed 5 years and then pass a 6 hour examination followed by the attesting of his course by 2 GCSAA certified superintendents. A renewal requiring 150 hours of continuing educa-tion is required every 5 years. He has been certified since 1995.
