GANNENMONO CELEBRATING 150 YEARS (1868-2018) IZUMO TAISHA MISSION OF HAWAII 28TH Golf tournament 10:30 AM: Check- in & Lunch 12:00 Noon: Shotgun Start EWA BEACH GOLF CLUB Friday, June 15, 2018 ANNUAL AUTUMN THANKSGIVING FESTIVAL Omatsuri is held on a Sunday, October 7, 2018. This traditional Fall festival expresses thanksgiving and gratitude through religious service. CAR AND BOAT BLESSINGS are performed for owners of new and used vehicles for safe driving and protection. HOUSE BLESSING (Iekiyome) is performed at the home or the Shrine to bless and purify the house, the home ownerʼ s family and others. GROUND BREAKING (Jichinsai) for home, office and buildings (on site or at the Shrine) is held to bless and purify the ground, the ownerʼ s family, business owners, contractors and their equipment, and other people affiliated with the project. OTHER OCCASIONS to visit the Shrine are: prayers and blessing for good health of individuals or family members, prosperity, business success, recovery from illness, safe birth, safe travel, success in studies, meeting the right companion, good marriage, success in sports or memorial service and funeral etc. NEW YEAR ʼ S BLESSING (Hatsumoude) is held at the Shrine on January 1st beginning at 12:00 midnight until January 3rd. The blessing is to express gratitude for the past year's blessings and ask for divine guidance and protection for the upcoming New Year. BABY ʼ S FIRST BLESSING (Hatsumiyamairi) is for newborn babies to offer prayers for the childʼ s good health and well-being. The blessing is held on or near the 32nd day after birth for a boy and 33rd day after birth for a girl. CHILDREN ʼ S BLESSING (Shichi-Go-San) is held in November for children ages 7, 5 and 3 for their health, well-being and progress in their growth and education. BLESSING AT SIGNIFICANT AGES (Yakudoshi) is celebrated at the ages of 25, 42 and 61 for men and 19, 33 and 37 for women as oriental ages. This tradition originated because ancient people considered these ages to be full of major changes and hazards. Therefore, these milestone ages are traditionally marked with purification, blessing and gratitude and invocation for divine guidance. TRADITIONAL SHINTO WEDDING CEREMONIES are performed with either traditional Japanese kimono or western gown. Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii was founded in 1906 to fulfill and meet the cultural and religious needs of the early Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. This year marks the 112th anniversary of Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii and the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Japanese immigrants. Today, Izumo Taisha continues this legacy.

The funds raised by this golf tournament will support Izumo Taisha by providing opportunities for cultural heritage education and experiences. For a listing of the more common and familiar activities, please refer to the back of this brochure.

Your participation in this golf tournament will also contribute to enhance local and international exchange and goodwill.
