This map shows operating mines, developing mines and selected mineral deposits in Australia.Operating mines are mines that were operating at the end of 2011. Developing mines are deposits with aproven minable resource and where mine site development has commenced or where a decision to minehas been announced. Mineral deposits highlight selected areas of known mineralisation of interest thatmay have a known resource or has previously been mined. The map illustrates broadly the geographicdistribution of the mines and deposits, and the range of selected broadly grouped commodities. Thisinformation is superimposed on a generalised (colour) surface geology map of Australia andaeromagnetics (greyscale, 0.5 vertical derivative). Closed mines or mines not currently operating are notshown.
