“This is the best class of Australian wines I’ve ever judged” - Ed Carr, 2011 Australian Sparkling Wine Show “Join me this year for my Master Class at the Australian Sparkling Wine Conference”

About the Australian Sparkling Wine Show

The Australian Sparkling Wine Show held in Marysville, Victoria is the only dedicated sparkling wine show in Australia.

In 2013, the event will be held from Tuesday 22 to Friday 25 October.

The inaugural event was held in 2010, conceived as part of the ongoing program to rebuild the region following the 2009

bushfires.

Since this time, the event has evolved and expanded and is now a renowned inclusion on the Australian wine show calendar.

In 2013, the event was rebranded from the ‘Marysville Sparkling Wine Festival’ to the ‘Australian Sparkling Wine Show’,

highlighting its national significance and aligning with the industry.

This year also sees the inclusion of an industry conference, Trends, Trade and Technology. The conference will be open to all

members of the wine industry, both nationally and internationally and will include a range of master classes, guest speakers and

other exciting events.

The committee is excited to announce that the Keynote Speaker for the conference will be The Australian Wine Communicator of

the Year, Tyson Stelzer. A live interview with international wine writer, Jancis Robinson will also form part of the event, via videolink

from the USA.

With sparkling wine producers from all over Australia entering the Show each year, the event has now become one of the most

prestigious wine competitions on the national wine industry calendar.

Other events forming part of the show calendar in 2013 include:

- Meet the locals community night

- Business breakfast, with guest speakers Andrew Forrest of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd, and Paralympic cyclist, Carole Cooke

- Bubbles, beer and tapas evening

- Gala awards dinner

We look forward to welcoming you to our region at this year’s Australian Sparkling Wine Show.

Jancis Robinson has been described by Decanter magazine as ‘the

most respected wine critic and journalist in the world.’

Jancis writes daily for JancisRobinson.com (voted first-ever Wine

Website of the Year in the Louis Roederer International Wine Writ-

ers Awards 2010), weekly for The Financial Times, and bi-month-

ly for a column that is syndicated around the world.

She is also editor of The Oxford Companion to Wine, co-author of The World Atlas of Wine (with Hugh Johnson) and

An award-winning TV presenter, she travels all over the world to conduct wine events and act as a wine judge. In 1984

She loves and lives for wine in all its glorious diversity, generally favouring balance and subtlety over sheer mass.

Mr Forrest is an Adjunct Professor at the Chinese Southern University, has been awarded the Australian Centenary Medal, the Australia Sports Medal, Ernest & Young Australian Social Entrepreneur of the Year, West Australia Citizen of the Year and The International Mining Journal’s Lifetime Achievement Award, yet he maintains that the toughest and most rewarding job he’s done is raising kids.

Sports fanatic, workaholic, former undercover police officer and multiple sclerosis advocate, Carol Cooke is one of the most inspirational figures in Australian sport. Having worked undercover with the drug squad in her native Canada for 14 years, Carol was devastated when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998. She was told she should return to her native Canada before she became incapacitated and that she would never walk again. By 2001, this was true and she was using a wheelchair full time but through regular exercise and Botox injections in her legs, Carol not only walks but cycles and rows at a national level. A former national swimmer in Canada who almost made the 1980 Canadian Olympic Team, Carol took up rowing in 2006 after she was identified at a Paralympic Talent Search day. She proved a natural on the water and placed sixth at the 2009 World Rowing Championships, narrowly missing out on a position on the Beijing 2008 team. Not satisfied there, Carol switched sports to cycling with a view to making the London 2012 team. She made the Australian team for the 2011 UCI Para-cycling World Championships, racing the house down to claim silver in both the road race and road time trial. Her imposing form, which included dual victories in the road race and time trial at the 2011 National Road Championships, continued through to London, where at 51, Carol won gold in the tricycle class of the individual road time trial and silenced those who said she would never walk again. Ever since her diagnosis, she has also thrown herself into raising awareness of multiple sclerosis. She initiated the 24 hour Mega Swim event, dedicated to raising money for MS and has now expanded the program to run in three states across 27 events. While fundraising and sport consume the majority of Carol’s time, she also enjoys spending time with friends, her new grandson and at charity events. She believes in daring to face your fears, advice she has successfully implemented in her own incredible life story.
