Ita Buttrose is the Australian of the year for 2013!! She was recognised for her outstanding career in media. Not only that she uses her national profile for raising the awareness for breast cancer and prostate cancer.

THE YEAR?

Akram Azimi became Young Australian of the Year because he is a dedicated mentor to young indigenous people. 13 years ago he left Afghanistan to come and live in Australia, and he went from being a refugee kid to become one of his school’s best student. He is now at the University of Western Australia studying law, science and arts.

At the moment he is studying a triple major in university.

He helps young people in rural and remote Western Australia with his leadership skills.

Marita Cheng became Young Australian of the Year in 2012 because she demonstrated vision in leadership and is dedicated to encouraging young woman to be interested in a career in engineering. She would like to study for a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Computer Science. She plans to start a robotics company where she will create robots that will do everyday tasks.

ACHIEVEMENTS She founded Robo Gals in 2008 which is an international student-run organisation that introduces young woman to technology and engineering.

She changed the way girls see engineering and technology .

She was a former panellist on ABC T.V’s news Inventors program.
