This open design project is a invitation to respond and modify Enzo Mari’s instruction based furniture plans - AUTOPROGETAZZIONE, generating works specially for production in digital machines.

In the original project for self-made furniture (1970), Mari invite people to produce your own design objects and writes that “anyone, apart from factories and trades, can use the designs to make them by themselves” and asks that photographs of the resulting pieces be sent to his studio. For me, this is one of seeds of open design.

Autotoprogetazzioni was chosen like inspiration and base because the project isn’t simply a "DIY manual" explaining how to fabricate one piece, but a new way to produce objects and knowledge in a collaborative way. I think this concept is very similarAt the concept of Fab Lab.
