Definitions:

AutoCAD: is a Microsoft Windows-based suite of CAD “computer aided design” software products for 2- and 3-dimensional design and drafting, developed by Autodesk.

Bit : A binary digit the smallest unit of information recognized by a computer

Byte: A unit of computer memory consisting of 8 bit. Hard Copy: A paper copy of a finished drawing created on a computer. Personal Computer PC: A microcomputer unit usually consisting of a

CPU, a keyboard, and a monitor. Pixel: A dot of color that appears on a computer screen. Program: A group of written instructions for a computer logically

arranged to perform a task. Write protect: a safety feature which prevents the loss of data from

storage disks.


Computer system Hardware and Software:All computer system consists of similar hardware devices and

software components. In brief hardware refers to physical components that a computer made of. A computer, as we generally think of it , is not an individual device, but a system of devices , each device plays its own part . A typical computer system consist of the following major components:

1. The central processing unit-CPU (it is the brain of PC)2. Main Memory3. Secondary storage4. Input devices5. Output devices


The evolution of H/W and S/W for the last 50 years:


System Requirements Operating System: Microsoft Windows® XP Professional,

Service Pack 2. Processor: Pentium III or IV (Pentium IV recommended) 800

MHz. RAM: 512 MB (recommended). Graphics card: 1024 x 768 VGA with True Color (minimum),

Open GL®-compatible 3D video card (optional). Hard disk: Installation 750 MB.

Before you install your product on a stand-alone computer, make sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements. If your system does not meet the system requirements, many problems can occur, both within AutoCAD and at the operating system level.

Draw Geometric Objects(2D)

In general, you draw objects by specifying points with the pointing device or by entering coordinate values on the command line.


Lines: Lines are probably the most simple of AutoCAD objects. To

use Cartesian coordinates to specify a point, enter an X value and a Y value separated by a comma (X,Y). The X value is the positive or negative distance, in units, along the horizontal axis. The Y value is the positive or negative distance, in units, along the vertical axis.


Lines:

•You can use absolute or relative polar coordinates (distance and angle) to locate points when creating objects. To use polar coordinates to specify a point, enter a distance and an angle separated by an angle bracket (<).


Erase Command:

Removes objects from a drawing by click this icon in the modifying object area or click on the object the press DEL button on the Keyboard

Change View commands:

PAN real time: Moves the view in the current view port. ZOOM Real time: Zooms to increase or decrease the

apparent size of objects in the current view port. ZOOM Window : Zooms to increase or decrease the

apparent size of objects in the current view port. ZOOM Previous: Restore the previous Zoom

Drawing Time is Important:

This drawing is normally cost 12min for drawing, then it takes 8min to put dimensions to it the total time is equal 20min. So how mush time you spend to draw this figure?


How you can execute commands:

Using drawing object area.

Using menu bar area.

Using command area.


Basic ideas for drawing:

Draw rectangle greater than your dimension (x,y) of your drawing.

In the zoom field click on zoom extents.

You can draw now comfortably.


SELECTING OBJECTS: By click on the exact

object that we want to select and repeat this procedure until we finish.

By using blue window that appear when we star select from the left corner to the right corner.

By using green window that appear when we star select from the right corner to the left corner.


Circle:

Command: _circle Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]:


Arc:

Command: _arc Specify start point of arc or [Center]: 10,10

Specify second point of arc or [Center/End]: 12,12

Specify end point of arc: 12,9

Modifying Commands: Copy command: Copies objects a specified

distance in a specified direction

Move command: Moves objects a specified distance in a specified direction

Dimension Style:

Right click on the standard menu.

Click on ACAD option. Then activate Dimension.

Click on Dimension Style Manager.


Dimension Style Manager:


You must change your dimension style for every drawing to make it easy to read from the costumer.

Modifying Commands: Mirror Command: Creates a mirror image copy of objects


OFFSET: CREATES CONCENTRIC CIRCLES, PARALLEL LINES, AND PARALLEL CURVES, OFFSET creates a new object at a specified distance from an existing object or through a specified point.


Trim & Extend Command:

Trim Command: Trims objects at a cutting edge defined by other objects


Extend Command: Extends an object to meet another object


Drawing Polygon: Use POLYGON to create closed poly lines with between 3

and 1,024 equal-length sides. The following illustrations show polygons created using three methods. In each case, two points are specified.


Command line: polygon Enter number of sides <8>: Specify center of polygon or [Edge]: Enter an option [Inscribed in

circle/Circumscribed about circle] <current>: Specify radius of circle:50
