    Autograph Game1stDays Icebreaker Activity

    Background Information

    The first days of school can be exciting and anxious

    for everyone involved. Students are excited to beback and anxious about who their new teacher will

    be. Teachers are excited about their new class yetanxious to be well enough prepared that the day goeswell for everyone involved. This activity is a fun

    icebreaker designed to help everyone in those allimportant first days of school

    Grade Level

    Grades 3 - 8

    Purpose

    Have fun getting to know each other on the first days of school.

    Materials

    Teacher

    Students

    Classroom

    Pencil or pen

    Hard backing for the game card (clipboards or students atlas)

    Procedure

    Have students create the area for the game to be played by moving all desks to oneside of the room.

    Invite students to come with their atlas/clipboard, pencil or pen and sit in a circle inthe area theyve created for the game to be played.

    Hand out the Game Card Sheet and go over the purpose and the rules with allstudents.

    Students play the game (you may wish to play as well) by standing and approaching

    individuals in the room to ask questions and obtain signatures/initials.

    Follow-Up

    Have students sit in the circle when the time period has expired and the game isover. The scores are not important having fun is! If you wish to acknowledge awinner, simply ask the students to count up the number of different

    signatures/initials they have on their card.

    Below is your playing card containing 16 squares with statements that need to be matched to

    individuals in your class. You try to obtain two signatures or initials per square from people who

    match each characteristic.

    Rules

    Ask your questions by moving quietly around the room and approaching individual students!

    You must only ask each individual one question at a time. Then move on to a new person!

    Each student may initial your playing card two times only!

    You have only 15 minutes to complete your card

    Scoring

    The number of initials or signatures on your card determines your final score
