The company Oris started in 1902 when the Lohner and Nagelin company started producing watches in the town of Holstein. It closed down two years later. Then came Paul Cattin and Georges Christian who succeeded in producing inexpensive pinpallet movements which nevertheless met chronometer standards through careful construction and manufacture. In 1952 an automatic movement with a winding rotor and power reserve indication gained notoriety. In 1966, Oris introduced the first automatic lever movement, the 645 caliber. A wrist-chronograph was launched in 1970 in cooperation with Dubois-Depraz. From 1919 to 1987, Oris has produced almost 97 million watches.
