Process Automation (PA):

Profibus is standardized according to IEC 61158 that means best

interoperability of components from different manufactures.

Decentralized Periphery (DP):

The modular peripheral construction of the bus system simplifies installation

and maintenance.

The Profibus PA is the leader in Process Automation in Europe, while Profibus

Plenum Cables Generally, plenum cable is laid in the plenum spaces of buildings. A plenum

space is an area of a building that circulates air for heating and cooling

systems. These spaces can either be for the heated or cooled air or for the

return flow. Dropped ceilings and raised floors also count as plenums if they

facilitate the air circulation. Plenum cable refers to any cable that has been

rated for use in plenum spaces.

Plenum cables must resist flame and have low smoke emissions when they

do come in contact with flame. Any fumes emitted must be non-toxic. A

plenum rated cable could possibly be used in other areas depending on

what type of cable it is. At Finecables, you can find plenum multi-pair or

used as the coating on the jacket and insulation that gives a cable its

About Communications Cables:

CMP/CMR/CMG/CM/CMX

In the United States, National Electrical Code (NEC), details advisory safety considerations for application

environment and cable ratings for electrical wiring. The flammability and smoke requirements for cables

become more stringent from CMP, CMR, CMG, CM to CMX Below is an explanation of the rating codes

for each cable type:

CMP (PLENUM):

Suitable for use in ducts, plenums, and other

spaces used for environmental air and shall also

be listed as having adequate fire-resistant and

low smoke-producing characteristics. These

cables are also referenced in Canadian

Standards as CSA FT6.

CMR (RISER):

Suitable for use in a vertical run in a shaft or

from floor to floor and shall also be listed as

having fire-resistant characteristics capable of

preventing the carrying of fire from floor to floor.

CMG /CM (GENERAL PURPOSE):

Suitable for general-purpose communications

use, with the exception of risers and plenums,

and shall also be listed as being resistant to the

spread of fire. These cables are also referenced

in Canadian Standards as CSA FT4.

CMX (LIMITED USE):

Suitable for use in dwellings and for use in

raceway and shall also be listed as being

resistant to flame spread.

Plenum Cables

Plenumcables & connectorsAt Finecables, you can find plenum multi-pair or multi-conductor plenum

cables. Meanwhile, PVC or PET/PTFE are often used as the coating on the

jacket and insulation that gives a cable its plenum rating.

Flammability:

Plenum cable is jacket with a fire-retardant plastic gray jacket of a low-

smoke PVC with wire insulation of FEP. The UL equivalent standard is the UL-

910 standard and meets FT6, which is made up of two primary tests, cable

burn properties and smoke density.

Cable stiffness:

Plenum-rated cables are restricted to only allow certain chemicals for

manufacture of the wire insulation and cable sheath. Typically this results in

reduced flexibility of plastic cables, making it stiff and hard to bend.

Application:

Plenum-rated Type CMP cables connectors can be installed above a

suspended ceiling or below a raised floor that is used for environmental air .

and Security Cable Applications.

PVC Jacket cablesThe application areas for this thermoplast in the plastics industry are diverse. There are

various types of PVC used in the wire and cable industry. National (DIN VDE) and

International (IEC) Standards Authorities have specified PVC parameters for the different

PVC mixtures.

PVC jacket cables are used for the transmission of measuring, control and voice signals in

electronic control appliances, in electronics of data processing systems, for paging and

intercom systems, weighing installations, office machines, etc. The cables can be used for

fixed installations and flexible applications with free movement, without tensile load and

mechanically guided movement in dry, damp and wet rooms. PVC data cables are not

suitable for outdoor use.
