As people age, it can be tricky to navigate the wide variety of questions and concerns that go hand-in-hand with the aging process. Senior citizens and their loved ones have many resources available to assist them with day-to-day life all the way from the national level to right here at home. Naperville is a community that warmly embraces seniors and “baby boomers” and wants to help connect them to information about these available services.

The City of Naperville and Naperville Park District have joined together to provide seniors with a con-venient way to access this information. The City of Naperville recently launched a comprehensive web-page at www.naperville.il.us/seniorservices.aspx that provides relevant phone numbers, webpages and de-scriptions of services offered to seniors by category. Where appropriate, the pages guide a visitor to the appropriate provider of the service, be it the City, township, county or state. Categories include:

Along with the webpage, the Naperville Park Dis-trict will have volunteers and staff available to help seniors navigate the website or provide resource contact information. For assistance, or if you have any suggestions or feedback regarding additional services to be listed on the webpage, please call (630) 848-3613 or stop by the Alfred Rubin River-walk Community Center at 305 W. Jackson Ave.

DAY TRIPSMamma Mia • Ages: 21 and upParamount Theatre, AuroraMama Mia is the story of Sophie, a 20 year-old bride-to-be preparing for her wedding. Unbeknownst to her mother, she finds her mom’s diary and reads about her love-filled summer 20 years before with three different men. Sophie is convinced one of the men is her father and she’s determined to find out who. She sends a wedding invitation to each of the men forging her mother’s signa-ture on each note. When the men arrive the day before the ceremony, Donna, her mom, is shocked at their presence while Sophie is elated to finally meet her father. Quickly, each of the men realizes why they’ve been asked to the nuptials and each is ready to walk their daughter down the aisle. This is a story of love and friendship, of lost dreams and that last chance to make it all right. Best of all, the entire show is set to the music of one of the most popular bands in world, ABBA. From “Dancing Queen” to “Take a Chance,” from “SOS” to “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” it is one hit song after another that will have you mouthing the words, dancing in your seats and touching your heart. MORE PROGRAMS FOR SENIORSTai Chi For Health: Adult • Ages: 18 and upTai Chi is a traditional Chinese health art and the focus of all Adult level programs is on reducing stress and maintain-ing health and vitality. This is done through the mind-body awareness exercises of the Neigongs and Chi Gongs, the balance footwork drills and the meditative qualities of the graceful, slow and round movements of the Circles and the Form. The Adult Tai Chi programs are more physical than the Senior Tai Chi programs and are a perfect addition to any other exercise routine. All new students begin with Level 1. Instructor approval is required for a student to move to the next level. A beginner student in a Multi-Level program learns all three levels of material simultaneously and has classmates at all levels. A Multi-Level program has the advantage of a student immediately being able to apply what they are learning to the next level. The advan-tage of a single level program is that material is presented sequentially with each level building on the previous one. The benefits of Tai Chi are found at all levels and there is no timetable for a student to progress to the next level. (lmo)

MORE PROGRAMS FOR SENIORSGolf Fitness: Introduction To Golf Fitness • Ages: 15 and upGolf is a game that requires high levels of skill, eye-hand coordination, flexibility and mobility, muscular power, timing, strength and endurance. The body’s musculoskele-tal and metabolic systems must be properly trained and in balance to perform a mechanically sound swing time and time again. National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Golf Fitness Specialist and PGA Professional Todd Russell trains students on the importance of flexibility training, core training, balance training, plyometric training, resis-tance training and cardio respiratory training using the OPT model as the framework for success. A comprehensive fitness assessment for each student provides a variety of subjective and objective information including a pre-partic-ipation health screening, resting physiologic measurements and a series of measurements to help determine the fitness level and proper training program for each participant. Corrective and performance-based training protocols specific to the sport of golf are designed and implemented to improve overall conditioning and golf-specific perfor-mance. For more information, call the Springbrook Golf Shop at 630-848-5060 or e-mail Todd Russell at [email protected]. (tr)
