Head Teachers Comments
Well what a start to the year, so
much has happened in the last 7
weeks. We have had trips out to
the Slavery Museum, Aqua Dock
and to see the Giants Spectacular.
We’ve had visits to school from a
pop band, a brass ensemble and a
theatre group who completed
drama activities linked to British
Values. All our new students
across school have settled well and
have really enriched our school
community.
It’s been great to see so many
parents/carers in school this week
attending the three coffee
morning we’ve had on homework,
travel training and supported
internships. After half term
there will be an opportunity for
new parents/carers to meet and
access support from Advanced
Solutions.
A big congratulations to all of our
ex year 11s who achieved great
exam and accreditation results
over the summer. Thank you to
all our fantastic parents/carers
and staff that taught and
supported students through KS 4.

6th Form Duke of
Edinburgh
Students
have
started
their preparation for the Duke of
Edinburgh's Award this year
and have created online accounts
where they can evidence their
work.
There have been weekly visits to
Croxteth Park as part of the
expedition and physical aspect of
the award and students have
secured a volunteering placement
at Freshfield Animal Rescue
Centre which will take place on a
rota basis.
Supported
Internships
The supported
Internship Programme with
Liverpool City Council,
named 'Intern to Work',
has had a great start this year.
Throughout the term three of our
sixth form students are at the
Hilton Hotel
Liverpool and two
students at the
Holiday Inn
Express Albert
Doc. They have
worked on this
exciting project
and are now
becoming
important team members.
The students have gained
important employability skills and
are increasing in confidence with
every shift they complete.
Alsop fitness centre and Rotunda
Boxing gym
Sixth form students have been
attending Alsop gym and Rotunda
Boxing on Friday afternoons as
part of their Health and Fitness
lessons.
Students are accessing the local
community, to explore new
opportunities for healthy active
lifestyles, encouraging young
people to continue participating in
their futures.
All students have made an
excellent start to both activities
and are thoroughly enjoying
themselves.
Well done!
Miss Southern and Mr Davey.
Student Council New student
councillors have
been elected by
their form classes
and have attended
their first student council meeting
of the year. Student councillors
have already discussed new ideas
for our outdoor equipment,
playtime activities as well as
future trip ideas.
As well as new ideas, students
have decided and agreed on
continuing with the student council
suggestion box and notice board to
continue with their excellent
student voice across school.
Student councillors will meet once
every half term to discuss new
topics and ideas that have been
suggested.
Well done 😊 Miss Southern.
Macmillan Fundraising
On the 1st October, the sixth
form students organised and
hosted their annual coffee morning
for all our 6th form parents. Our
pupils were great hosts and worked
really hard to make sure it was
our best coffee morning yet. Well
done to them for all their hard
work! From all the Sixth form
students and staff at Bank View,
we would like to say a massive
thank you to all the parents and
pupils for your continued support.
The Harvest Festival and
Foodbank The pupils will be
collecting food donations
for the North Liverpool foodbank.
If you have any in date canned or
boxed food that you would like to
donate to the food bank appeal,
please send donations in to
Mrs Fenwick.
All donations will
be presented
during the Bank View Christmas
Concert in December. Thank you.
Music Workshop We recently had a
performance in school
from American pop artist called
Gabe Kubanda with DJ Teffler as
part of their Epic Proportions
Tour. It was a great event and
was followed for some children by
a workshop called EduMusication,
which talked about life in the
music industry.
Music Club
Music club will start again on
Thursday 1st November 3.15-
4.15pm. All are welcome if you
can be picked up at 4.15pm. We
have a limited number of spaces on
the school mini bus for drop off
after club, which are allocated on
a first come, first served basis.
Please ask for a permission letter.
Play Therapy at Bank
View We are now able to offer Play
Therapy as an additional form of
support for children age 4-14
years here in school. Play therapy
gives children the opportunity to
better understand their world and
what is happening around them.
Children will be referred to the
ARC as previously by staff,
parents or themselves. Play
Therapy is not appropriate for
every child. Sometimes behaviour
may temporarily deteriorate during
or after therapy this is because
issues or worries are being brought
to mind through play. The type of
issues which bring children to play
therapy might include general
anxiety leading to problems with
things like sleeping or eating, self-
esteem, family issues such as
bereavement or a change in the
family, friendships, regressing to
younger behaviours, more serious
mental health issues will continue
to be referred to CAMHS.
*Not all children are suitable for
Play Therapy and the team will
refer children for other support if
appropriate. All sessions are
monitored via CCTV *
Play Therapists receive supervision
by their School Project Manager
on a weekly basis.

Giants Trip Liverpool was a hive of activity
with the visits from the giant
spectacular. Pupils in base 2 and
the performing arts enrichment
group took part in a city wide
project based on the giant’s visits.
The theme was "Dreams" and
pupils across Merseyside schools
were tasked to create a blanket
based on this and bring it along to
a giant picnic. A group of pupils
along with PC Caroline, our school
community police officer, and
staff attended the picnic and got
very close to the little boy giant
and the dog in Princes Park.
Fun was had by all even if the
weather meant we ate our picnic in
the school bus.
Altru drama visit Pupils in lower school recently took
part in a drama session with Alice
from Altru drama. The session
was part of their citizenship
lessons and were based around
British values, rights and individual
liberty. Alice made the session
fun and interactive and both staff
and pupils had a great day.
Reward trip
This half terms reward trip was to
Adventure dock at the Albert
Dock. The reward trips are linked
to the DoJo system in school.
Each half term the pupil with the
most dojo in each class has the
opportunity to attend a reward
trip. There is also space on each
trip for pupils with the most
improved behaviour. Keep an eye
out on our school website for
photos!
School Photographs Unfortunately the
photograph day had to
be cancelled on Thursday
11th October.
We have now rearranged the date
to Thursday 1st November, which
will be the first week back in
school after half term.
Homework Homework is
set fortnightly, but students can
also set themselves tests for more
practice if they choose. Every
question is automatically marked,
and students get instant feedback.
Educake is an online homework and
revision system that’s just for KS3
and GCSE Science. It can be used
on PC, tablet or smartphone by
going to www.educake.co.uk.
If pupils do not have access to the
internet at home we have facilities
in school so that all pupils have a
chance to complete their homework
and earn themselves some extra
dojo’s. Alternatively there is
always paper homework available.
Your child has been given a
username and password for their
online science homework.
Thank you
Miss Flynn
Pupils have been given
their mymaths passwords for their
online homework. Online homework
can be accessed by visiting
www.mymaths.co.uk
The school's log in is bankv
The password is compass. Each
pupils has been given their own
individual login details.
Thank you
Mr Tasker
Homework Coffee Morning
A coffee morning was held on
Wednesday 17th October 2018 for
parents/carers to talk with
teaching staff about the homework
we suggest for pupils to do who
attend Bank View.
They discussed some resources for
parents/carers to use at home and
discuss the best ways to work with
your children to help them to
improve. The main subjects they
focused on were English, Maths
and Science homework.
If you were unable to attend and
would like some information or
advice please contact the school.
Travel Training Coffee
Morning and Presentation On Thursday 18th October 2018
the Travel trainers from the LA
held a coffee morning for
parents/carers at the school to
talk about opportunities for our
pupils to have travel training.
The travel training will begin after
half term so if you would like your
child to take part please contact
the travel trainers or school to
arrange.
Year 11 Work Experience Work experience time is nearly
upon us again! Year 11 are busy
preparing and learning about the
world of work and visiting their
placements ready for their two
week placements.
Please note that travel training for
the independent travellers to
travel to their work experience
placement will be available if
needed and will begin after half
term.
Year 11 pupils in Base 2 will have
work experience days in the
spring/summer term.
@model at
Croxteth
Primary We have enjoyed
exploring Forest
School over at
Croxteth.
We all worked
hard on our autumnal scavenger
hunt looking for different natural
materials.
BVHS and Behaviour
Management The pupils have made a positive
start to the new academic year.
The school has introduced a new
behaviour management system
which is proving successful. Class
Dojo is an online system to record
positive and negative behaviours on
a lesson by lesson basis. It allows
all staff to monitor behaviour
across the school. The school is
linking its rewards and discipline
system to Class Dojo. Rewards for
pupils include golden time (including
a range of activities) on a
Thursday afternoon, football
sessions, boxercise classes and
reward trips. The lower and upper
school pupils selected from class
dojo for excellent effort and
work are going pumpkin picking this
half term. A lunchtime detention
has been put in place on a
Thursday for those pupils who are
not achieving their personal
targets for behaviour set through
Class Dojo. Overall it has been a
very positive response to the new
system.

Lead Behaviour Teacher
Coding Club Coding club is now
running on Thursday
afternoons and students have been
setting up accounts on
https://code.org/learn to learn
coding. They have been exploring
a range of coding activities from
Flappy Bird to Minecraft.

Medical Appointments Any child attending a
medical appointment,
please bring in your
medical card/letter
so we can authorise
your absence. Without proof, your
absence will be marked
unauthorised. Please ensure your
child comes into school before or
after their appointment.
Medical Absences The school will not authorise any
absences unless they received the
following:
1. A copy of a prescription.
2. A Compliment slip from a
chemist of any medication that has
been bought over the counter for
the pupil.
Or
3. Show the school any medication
give to the pupil by their doctor.
Attendance & Punctuality
Can I ask, that as parent/carers
you ensure that your child attends
school every day unless they are
really poorly. Pupils’ welfare is of
paramount importance to us and
attendance and punctuality are
essential for children to make
progress. We acknowledge that
each family’s circumstances are
different and we work in
partnership with parents/carers to
provide the best education for
every child. I have issued all pupils
with a challenge to achieve 100%
attendance each term and if they
do this they will receive a reward.
The government have now issued
new guide lines that means that
pupils who have 90% attendance or
less are classed as ‘persistent
absentees’ and further action will
be taken by the school with the
support of the education welfare
officer.
Thank you. Anne Marsh EWO
Pupil Absence All parents/carers must contact
the school office in the morning if
your child will be off ill. Without a
telephone call your child will be
marked unauthorised. Escorts are
NOT responsible for passing on
messages that your child is ill.
If your child wishes to change
from school dinner to packed lunch
or packed lunch to school dinner.
Please call the school office first
on 0151 330 5101 to prevent
unsolicited dinner charges. School
dinners cost £9 per week, please
make sure your child’s account is
kept up to date.
After School Club After school club runs from
3:20pm – 4:30pm on a Wednesday.
Please note that if your child is on
the list to go to our after school
clubs and you wish for your child
NOT to attend club on that day,
please contact the school office to
let them know on 0151 330 5101.
Pupil Information
We would like to
remind all
parents of the
importance of providing the school
with any change of address or
phone numbers, please let the
school office know immediately.
There have been a number of
incidents when it has not been
possible to contact a parent when
their child has been unwell, due to
us not having up to date phone
numbers. Please fill in the
information if there are any
changes and send into school as
soon as possible. Email or send
