HEADLINES

Our Christmas celebrations have started with the Carol Service at St. John’s

Church on Thursday. This was an amazing evening and what a very special

way to start our Christmas celebrations with beautiful carols and readings to

retell the story of the birth of Christ.

We really enjoyed the Later Years’ production of ‘A King is Born’ it was lovely to

hear such brilliant singing and see so many happy faces. We look forward to

the Early Years’ Nativity next week.

Just one more day until the PA Christmas Fair. Thank you in advance to Mrs

Drake, Mrs Bailey, Mrs Macdonald and Mrs Peltor and all the parents who have

so generously given their time to create, what I am sure will be,

a brilliant event.

We are aware of the very generous gifts that are being shared at this time of

year. Please be mindful that many members of our community have allergies and our wish to avoid nuts or

foods that may contain nuts. We thank you in advance for your support in this matter.

This is the longest term and tiredness is creeping in but the energy reserves are there and we need one fi-

nal push so that everyone can enjoy what is in store. Having not properly seen Annie for a long time, I really

was struck by the message that, behind the New York skyline of flickering lights, presents and food, this is a

time for forgiveness, compassion and friendship. This is very much what we shall be promoting over the

coming days.

Enjoy the weekend!

Best wishes,

Emma Neville, Head

M-TECH AWARDS

Just a small reminder for parents: please adhere to the speed limit of 10mph and 5mph on the school

site so that we can keep pupils safe. We encourage that children should only get out of the car on the

right hand side when parking outside the dining room for morning drop off. Many children seem to be get-

ting out of passenger door into the moving traffic which is a concern. Also, to enable a smoother pick up

at the end of the day, please park, collect and go as swiftly as possible so that the next car is not held

up and making sure that cars are not double parked. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

LIBRARY NEWS

TV Treats over Christmas

Now a firm favourite in the TV schedules, this year’s David Walliams offering is The Midnight Gang; watch

this madcap adventure starring David Walliams himself on BBC1, Boxing Day at 7:30pm. Another TV tradi-

tion is the adaptation of a Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler picture book—this Christmas it’s the turn of

Zog to entertain us on Christmas Day, 4.50pm BBC1. BBC1 are also bringing us a new animated adapta-

tion of Richard Adams’s classic Watership Down, which stars a top notch voice cast including James

McAvoy, Olivia Colman and Ben Kingsley. (Tissues at the ready, Saturday 22nd December at 7pm.)

For something slightly different, you could try the 90 minute radio adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Norse My-

thology. The piece is set to invite listeners to “a world of gods and monsters, fiery endings and new begin-

nings, tricks and trust.” Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology airs on Radio 4 on Wednesday 26th December

from 3.00-4.30pm

A quick note that children are welcome to borrow Library books over the Christmas holidays.

LIBRARY NEWS

Focus on: Usborne Young Reading Programme

The Usborne Reading Programme is a collection of beautifully produced reading books, both fiction and

non-fiction.

Beautifully produced, with lively writing and fabulous illustrations, the books are designed to capture the

imagination and build the confidence of beginner readers and expand the horizons of confident read-

ers alike.

The series features abridged versions of classic children’s books such as The Secret Garden and classic

adult books such as Frankenstein and Jane Eyre. The series is a great introduction to the books of Charles

Dickens, the plays of Shakespeare along with many myths, legends and fairy tales.

The Prep School Library stocks a wide selection of Levels 1,2 and 3 (3 being the more advanced). There

is also a selection to be found in the Pre-Prep School Library.

Most recent additions to the series are The 39 Steps, Les Miserables, The War of the Worlds and Stories of

Thor—quite a range. The Usborne Famous Lives series which feature the biographies of men and women

such as Captain Cook, Winston Churchill, Anne Frank and Marie Antoinette can also be found in the Li-

brary and come highly recommended. Please search the Usborne Young Reading tab via Pick & Click,

or enter ‘Usborne Young Reading’ in the search box.

Happy Reading,

Mrs Macdonald-Brown.
