Your key number is shown onthe plate. If you should loseyour keys or if you needadditional keys, duplicates canbe made using the key number.
The engine immobiliser systemis a theft prevention system. The engine will start only whenthe electronic code in the chipinside the key corresponds tothe registered ID code of thevehicle.
Locking operation. Yourvehicle has a wireless remotecontrol system that can lock orunlock all the side doors andback door from a distancewithin approximately 1m (3ft)of the vehicle.
Double locking. All newAvensis Verso models have highsecurity double locks. To doublelock the doors, push the lockbutton on the key twice.
Locking wheel nuts. All newAvensis Verso models arespecified with locking wheelnuts to protect all your wheels(including spare) from theft.
TVSS Alarm. The Avensis Versois fitted with a perimeter alarmand battery-backed siren for thelong term benefit of your car.
International Security Register.Your new Avensis Verso has aunique number etched into allwindow glass. The ISR operates a24 hour service which can providepeace of mind for your purchase.

Adjusting front seats
1. Seat position adjusting leverHold the centre of the lever and pull itup. Then slide the seat to the desiredposition with slight body pressure andrelease the lever.
2. Seat cushion height adjusting knob(drivers seat only)Turn the knob either way.
3. Seatback angle adjusting leverLean forward and pull the lever up.Then lean back to the desired angle andrelease the lever.
Child restraint system
The Avensis Verso features an ISOFIX child restraint system on the centre seatsof the middle row.
Child restraint systems are classified into the following 5 groups accordingto the regulation ECE No.44:Group 0: Up to 10 kg (0-9 months) Group 0+: Up to 13 kg (0-2 years)Group I: 9-18 kg (9 months-4 years) Group II: 15-25 kg (4 years-7 years)Group III:22-36 kg (6 years-12 years)

Adjusting rear seats
1. Seat position adjusting lever (2ndrow only)Pull the lever up. Then slide the seatto the desired position with slightbody pressure and release the lever.
2. Seatback angle adusting lever Leanforward and pull the lever up. Thenlean back to the desired angle andrelease the lever.
Seat belts
Adjust the seat as needed and sit upstraight and well back in the seat. Tofasten your belt, pull it out of theretractor and insert the tab into thebuckle.You will hear a click when the tab locksinto the buckle.The seat belt length automatically adjuststo your size and the seat position.

Bonnet and fuel tank openingBonnetTo open the bonnet:1. Pull the bonnet lock release lever.
The bonnet will spring up slightly.
2. In front of the vehicle, pull up theauxiliary catch lever and lift thebonnet.
3. Hold the bonnet open by insertingthe support rod into the slot.
Fuel tank cap1. To open the fuel filler door, pull
the lever up. When refuelling, turnoff the engine.
2. To remove the fuel tank cap, turnthe cap slowly counterclockwise,then pause slightly beforeremoving it. After removing thecap, hang it on the cap hanger.
Fuel type and tank capacity
Petrol engine:
Fuel type: unleaded petrol with a RON of 95or higher.
Tank capacity: 60 litres.
Diesel engine:
Fuel type: Diesel fuel with a cetane numberof 48 or higher.
Tank capacity: 60 litres.

To turn on the windscreen wipers,move the lever to the desired setting.The key must be in the “ ON “ position.
Position 1: mist functionPosition 2: intermittentPosition 3: slowPosition 4: fastFor a single sweep of the windshield,push the lever up and release it.To spray washer fluid, pull the levertoward you.
To turn on the following lights:twist the headlight/indicator lever.Position 1: Parking, side, numberplate and instrument panel lightsPosition 2: Headlights and all of theabove
High-Low beamsFor high beams, turn the headlightson and push the lever away from you(position 1). Pull the lever towardyou (position 2) for low beams.Flashing the high beam headlights(position 3): pull the lever all the wayback. The high beam headlights turnoff when you release the lever.
To turn on the rear window wiper,twist the lever knob upward.The key must be in the “ ON “positionPosition 1: IntermittentPosition 2: NormalTo spray washer fluid on the rearwindow, twist the knob upward ordownward as far as it will go(position 3 or 4). The knobautomatically returns from thesepositions after you release it.

To turn on the airconditioning, press the “A/C”button. The “A/C” button indicatorwill come on. To turn the airconditioning off, press thebutton again.

Press the button to adjust thefan speed, “>” to increaseand “<” to decrease the fanspeed.

1. Recirculate -recirculates the airinside the vehicle.
2. Fresh - draws outsideair into the system.

To turn on the automaticoperation, press the "AUTO"button. To turn off theautomatic operation, pressthe fan speed selector or anyair flow selector button.
6. Temperature selector
Turn the knob to adjust thetemperature – to the right towarm, to the left to cool.
7. “OFF” button
To switch off the ventilation,press the “OFF” button.
Press one of thebuttons to select thevents used for air flow.
1. Panel - air flowsmainly from theinstrument panelvents.
2. Bi-level - air flowsfrom both the floorvents and theinstrument panelvents.
3. Floor - air flowsmainly from thefloor vents.
4. Floor/windscreen -air flows mainly fromthe floor vents andwindscreen vents.
5. Windscreen - airflows mainly fromthe windscreenvents.

The windows can be operatedwith the switch on each sidedoor.
The ignition key must be in the“ON” position.
Operating the windows
Use the switch on the driver’s orpassengers’ doors.Normal operation: The window moves as long asyou hold the switch.To open: Lightly push down theswitchTo close: Lightly pull up theswitch.Automatic operation (allwindows):Push the switch completely downor pull it completely up, thenrelease it. The window will fullyopen or close. To stop thewindow partway, lightly movethe switch in the oppositedirection and then release it. Allwindows will also close via a one-touch operation but has a built inanti-trap facility, where it willautomatically retract if it detectsa foreign subject ‘trapped’between the window and doorframe.

Removing spare tyre
1. Open the rear left side door andlocate the slit on the floor. Turnover the slit to find the spare tyreclamp bolt.
2. Loosen the spare tyre clamp boltwith the wheel nut wrench. Whenthe bolt becomes loose to someextent, use the beveled end of thewrench.
3. Unlock the clamp from the tyreholder while lifting the holderslightly up as shown in theillustration.
4. Lower the tyre holder securely andslowly until it touches the groundand take out the spare tyre.
The tyre holder is not designed tostore a standard tyre.
Positioning the jack
Position the jack at the correct jackpoint as shown.
Raising your vehicle
After making sure that no one is in thevehicle, raise it high enough so thatthe spare tyre can be installed.
