AVOID LION OSX – Now on my THIRD INSTALL! If you can, avoid Lion! I have to have it, as I need Lion to make iCloud work on all my devices, so I was more or less forced into it. These are the reasons to avoid it from MY own experience: - 1. Time Machine has failed me THREE times now on my MacBook Pro. Yet, Time Machine restored perfectly in Leopard when I had a replacement iMac when I first bought one. In fact I thought Apple was brilliant. We bought a 24” iMac AND a Macbook Pro. I was an ardent fan until LION came out. I hate it! 2. I upgraded last July (2011) when it first came out and I had no end of problems that were reported to Apple through their Lion help desk.. It's now June 2012 and nothing seems to have been fixed. It seems Apple are content and arrogant enough to want us to use this low grade OSX and I have to continue putting up with it's poor functionality. 3. As Time Machine won't work with Lion I have had to tediously rebuild everything manually. This was what I had to do with Microsoft and why I went to Apple on 2008. 4. The HDD fills up gradually and so the system has no room for caching to it and gradually comes to a halt. The coloured spinning wheel of death being a more or less permanent feature. 5. Productivity gets to 10% of what it was under Leopard and Snow Leopard at this time. 6. Try pasting into Mail and the text goes anywhere but where you want it! It takes 5 minutes to correct. Many times one has to delete it and retype it. WHY? 7. You cannot look up an email address in Mail directly in the address book. You need to look at the contact card and then choose address book look up. It takes several attempts for the contact card to pop up and then eventually you get the address book entry after a lot of seeing the coloured spinning wheel of death. You may be lucky to see the address book entry in 5 minutes. 8. The address Book no longer functions efficiently. Most new entries take at least 5 minutes and sometimes 10 minutes to enter and it's the same editing anything. 9. I suspect it's constantly saving all it's own Apple files in any Apple programme that's open. It is doing foreground saves and not background saves. This means you are unable to work if it's saving something. 10. I often go off and make a cup of tea or coffee whilst it's sorting itself out. 11. Adobe CS4 works fine still in Lion as you save the work when you want and not constantly, as with Apple's Applications. 12. I still haven't recovered all my lost emails from the first time LION OSX failed to function. Recovering Apple Mail is no easy task and I need to bite the bullet! 13. The Mission Control is terrible idea as I am unable to see what's in the rectangles. They are too small! 14. I have set Mission Control to open new Apps in a NEW window, but it still opens them

AVOID LION OSX – Now on my THIRD INSTALL!

If you can, avoid Lion! I have to have it, as I need Lion to make iCloud work on all my devices, so I was more or less forced into it. These are the reasons to avoid it from MY own experience: -

5. Productivity gets to 10% of what it was under Leopard and Snow Leopard at this time.6. Try pasting into Mail and the text goes anywhere but where you want it! It takes 5 minutes

to correct. Many times one has to delete it and retype it. WHY?7. You cannot look up an email address in Mail directly in the address book. You need to look

at the contact card and then choose address book look up.

10. I often go off and make a cup of tea or coffee whilst it's sorting itself out.11. Adobe CS4 works fine still in Lion as you save the work when you want and not constantly,

as with Apple's Applications.12. I still haven't recovered all my lost emails from the first time LION OSX failed to function.

Recovering Apple Mail is no easy task and I need to bite the bullet!13. The Mission Control is terrible idea as I am unable to see what's in the rectangles. They are

too small!14. I have set Mission Control to open new Apps in a NEW window, but it still opens them

where it wants. Oh to be able to bring back SPACES!15. System Messages boing at you but never come to the top, so I am unable to find them! How

ridiculous is that. I have to waste many minutes playing hunt the messages. I am still looking for one after 24 hours!

16. You cannot see library and systems files without going into terminal to change the settings. Users should not have to do this.

17. You cannot CUT & PASTE files like you can in Microsoft. This means that if transferring to another drive, you can only COPY & PASTE. You then have to go back and DELETE. What an utter waste of time!

18. I can no longer see the documents on iCloud/Mobile Me. They are being phased out at the end of June and I need to sort this out. You used to be able to see them in Finder, but they are no longer there! Another thing to sort out!

19. Doing anything in Apple OSX LION takes 10 times as long as it did under Leopard and Snow Leopard. No company can afford this wasted time. We used to measure the keystrokes to do anything and try to REDUCE them. Manufacturers should be making less keystrokes to do anything. Apple have now increased the keystrokes to do anything. Not good practice for anyone especially if you are trying to run a business. Who trained these Apple developers? Who signed this stuff off?

20. If I still had a company (I am now retired), I would not be touching Apple Desktops and Laptops with a bargepole!

21. My Cousin got so fed up with LION OSX that he took Lion off his Mac and loaded up Windows 7. He is so happy now!

22. Each time it alters the permissions on my external HDD and I had to go through and change them back to allow ME to look at my own files! All this is terribly time consuming. Apple needs to sort out it's ridiculous file permissions system, as I should be able to use my OWN files!

23. My Adobe creative Suite 4 (CS4) lost it's licensing details and I had to delete all the Apps and reload them all again.

24. This meant that I was faced with TRASH that had many thousands of unwanted CS4 files and it took a day to securely empty. You have to do this or the HDD doesn't seem to release the space. Then it fills up quicker!

25. I anticipate I will have all this pain again in another 4 months! Why LION OSX fills my HDD up over 4 months each time is a complete mystery.

26. We bought a Sony Vaio instead of another MacBook Pro for use in China. What a blessing this proved to be. The Sony runs Windows 7 Ultimate and apart from one small problem it's perfect. It had to restore itself to a previous restore point ONCE and it continues to work well without a hitch. Contrast this to all the hassle I have had with LION OSX in the same period of time.

27. This last rebuild took 10 days in total trying all manner of things to get it back to how it should be. I have lost about 30 days working time on all these problems in the last 11 months!

Conclusion

If it happens again I will do what my cousin did and dump OSX LION and go back to Microsoft with Windows 7. I am not prepared to waste my valuable time sorting this out a 4 th time!

It makes one wonder if Apple are no longer bothered about the desktop market to produce such defective software, with such poor functionality?

Avoid it if you can!
