Avon Summer Theater began in the late 1950's as an Avon Public School summer music and arts program developed by Avon High School teachers Joseph Donato, Paul McMahon, and Fran Lynch. In 1961 they produced their first musical, The King and I. In the summers following, they continued their musical tradition with productions of Peter Pan, Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun and more. The summer theater torch was then passed to many others over the years, leading to this summer's 58th musical, WE WILL ROCK YOU

Avon Summer Theater Proudly presents
High School Edition
Doreen Cohn (Director): has directed local theatre groups involving elementary students to adults for over 40 years, including Canton High School, Canton Benefit Productions, CIGNA Theatre, Simsbury Summer Theatre, Simsbury High School, Theatre Guild of Simsbury, The Ethel Walker School, Avon Summer Theater, Bloomfield Youth Theatre, and most recently, It Shoulda’ Been You for the Farmington Valley Stage
Company in Canton and Sister Act for Theatre Guild. In addition to her directing credits, she has designed sets as well as performed with area theater companies including the Theatre Guild of Simsbury, Centennial Theater Festival, and the Warner Theater. Former Avon Teacher of the Year (2004), Doreen has also been head of the Theater Department at the Ethel Walker School, Simsbury and is currently Executive Director of the Farmington Valley Stage Company in Canton, CT. Although recently retired from the Avon Public Schools, where she spent 40 wonderful years as Artistic Enrichment Resource Teacher and District Technology coordinator, it’s clear that she hasn’t retired from her involvement with theater a (and probably never will!!) Ken Jones (Production Designer/Technical Director): Ken is proud to
have worked with the awesome cast and crew for our tribute to Queen! This is his 12th consecutive AST musical. He has trained students in theater craft in the Farmington Valley area for over 100 productions, in schools and area theaters including Avon Summer Theatre, Avon HS, Canton MS/HS, Farmington Valley Stage Company, FAVARH, Loomis Chaffee NEO
Theatre, and Theatre Guild of Simsbury. He is Director of Theater Operations and Resident Production Designer at FVSC. He lives by the credo, "Enthusiastically share what you know, and eagerly learn what you don't." This has served him (and his crews) well and he is grateful to all those who have willingly shared their knowledge, creativity, and unique perspectives. Ken lives in Canton with his unwaveringly supportive and understanding wife, Jane.
Production Staff
Diana Lawler (Music Director): Diana played her first show at 13 years
of age, and was hooked! She has been the accompanist and/or music director for over 60 area productions, including Canton High, CCSU, Ethel Walker School, AOF, Warner Theatre, TGS and she has been the music director for AST for many years. Diana is also the accompanist-in-residence for the Canton school system, and accompanies at several schools. She holds
a B.M. in piano performance from the Hartt School of Music and is a member of CSMTA. Besides all this, she is also a private piano teacher, and lives on a small farm in Canton with her family, two dogs and a few hundred chickens. Working with the youth at AST (and my fellow directors) is always a highlight of my year. Congratulations to the cast, crew and pit for a fabulous show! Terry Rowe (Choreographer): “Miss Terry” is happy to be returning to
AST for We Will Rock You. She owned and operated Terry’s School of Dance in Avon for 32 years where her students performed all over including two cruise ships, Universal Studios and seven times in Disney World, as well as taking several top honors at local competitions. She has choreographed for many groups, most recently the Theatre
Guild of Simsbury’s Sister Act and Canton High School’s Fame, as well as Kingswood Oxford High School, Simsbury High, Avon Summer Theater, Thompson Brook School, Suffield Players and Summer Place Players. Nowadays, when not doing choreography, you can find her behind the desk at Avon Hair Company Cindy Braunlich (Costume Designer): We Will Rock You is Cindy's 8th
show with AST having costumed The Wiz, Once Upon A Mattress, Sound of Music, Rent, Once On This Island, The Wedding Singer, and last year's Loserville. Cindy most recently costumed Theatre Guild of Simsbury's Sister Act, Farmington Valley Stage Company's It Shoulda Been You and Tales from the Dungeon-New-gate Prison currently running at the newly
opened New-gate Prison. Cindy has also costumed for Avon High School, Canton High School, Henry James Middle School, Simsbury Summer Theater, First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell (NJ) and Verona Middle School (NJ). In addition, Cindy is currently on the Board of Directors for the Theatre Guild of Simsbury. Cindy lives in Simsbury with her husband Bob and has two children Amanda and Will who are supportive of her "other" career helping people find the perfect costume!
Peggy Beauregard (Production Assistant, House Manager) is pleased
to be back for her sixth summer with AST and is grateful to be part of the theater experience. During the academic year, she loves teaching mathematics at University of Hartford. Some of her volunteer commitments include the Friends of the Avon Public Library and Boy Scout Troop 274. Thanks to R,M,M and T for putting up with our crazy summer theater schedule. Congrats cast
and crew…you are a great group! Chuck Simmons (Assistant Director), graduated from Circle in the
Square Theater School in NYC. He was fortunate to have the opportunity to act on Broadway with Christopher Reeve, Raul Julia, Sigourney Weaver, Vanessa Redgrave and Lynn Redgrave. One of his favorite credits is Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night. This is his third summer with AST, playing Elvis in The Wedding Singer, as well as assistant director for last summer’s
Loserville. Most recently Chuck directed FAME at CHS where he also play Mr. Whomper in their 2017 production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In addition this past fall, Chuck played Paco in Miss Abigail’s Guild to Dating, Mating and Marriage at the Farmington Valley Stage Company. Chuck is very excited to help direct such a talented
group of student. Thank you Doreen, directors and crew! Break a Leg to all!! Ryan Culligan (Video production): Soon to be a college junior, Ryan is
excited to be back working with AST on the technical side of things after performing with them on-stage for five shows including RENT and The Wedding Singer. In addition to creating videos for We Will Rock You, he recently appeared as Finn in Sláinte, a student-written play performed at Ohio University, where he studies Integrated Media and Political Science. He also serves as a writer for the school’s sketch comedy show Fridays Live. When not
editing or performing, Ryan is an avid collector of baseball caps and scoops ice cream at Farmington Miniature Golf. He would like to thank the cast, crew, and directors for the opportunity to work with them and his family for their support.
Diana Yeisley (Hair, Make-up) has found another theater family with AST and is happy to be joining the team this year. Diana has both on-stage and off-stage credits in many shows most recently starring as Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act with the Theater Guild of Simsbury. She is excited about upcoming projects including working on hair and make-up for SHS’s winter musical Kiss Me Kate. Diana lives in Simsbury with her family and thanks them for
all of their support.
Ruby Holt (Assistant Technical Director) is happy to be back for her
6th AST show and overall 16th show. She has participated in multiple theater programs including Avon High, Avon Summer Theater, Farmington Valley Stage Co and Champlain College where she attends for Graphic Design. In Ruby’s tech career, she has helped with scenic painting, build/run, light board op, special effects and spotlight op. Despite the cold, Ruby enjoys
college in Vermont with her dog. She would like to thank Ken Jones and Doreen Cohn for the opportunity to be a part of AST once more!

Queen are a British rock band that formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon. Queen's earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but
the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock, into their music.
