INTRODUCTION

This monitoring report is to satisfy the requirements under the Protection of the Environment Legislation Amendment

Act 2011 (POELA Act) to publish or make pollution monitoring data available to members of the public.

This document also satisfies condition 7 schedule 5 of Project Approval 10_0038, this report summarises

environmental monitoring results for Awaba Colliery for the period of June 2015.

SURFACE WATER QUALITY

The following parameters pH, Total Suspended Solids (TSS mg/L), Electrical Conductivity (EC µs/cm) and Oil and

Grease (mg/L) are monitored at Licenced Discharge Point 1 – 9 in accordance with the requirements of Environmental

Protection Licence 443.

There were no discharges from Awaba Colliery Licenced Discharge Points during the monitoring period.

WATER VOLUME

Water volume discharged off site is measured through licence discharge points (LDPs). Environment Protection

Licences (EPLs) set limits on the maximum volume of water to be discharged for a given period.

The volume limits for EPL443 Licenced Discharge Points are listed in table 2

AIR QUALITY MONITORING

The air quality monitoring results for the reporting period are summarised below.

Depositional Dust

Depositional dust (g/m2/mth) results (insoluble solids) for June 2015 are shown in Table 3.

* Results removed due to contamination of the sample. Specific information can be found below.

The following high readings were removed from the tables and graphs due to contamination of the results. The

following provides further information:

July – DG3 recorded a reading of 13.1 g/m2/month. A breakdown of the material shows 50% of the result

was a combination of Vegetation Matter and Polysaccharide slime.

September – DG3 recorded a reading of 7.8 g/m2/month. 50% of the dust was a combination of Vegetation

Matter and Polysaccharide slime.

February – DG3 recorded a reading of 4.4 g/m2/month. 60% of the dust was a combination of Vegetation

Matter and Polysaccharide slime.

June – DG3 recorded a reading of 11.8 g/m2/month. 60% of the dust was a combination of Vegetation Matter

and Polysaccharide slime.

A graphical representation of depositional dust monitoring data is shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1. Monthly Dust Deposition Gauge Results

Depositional dust monitoring data indicates that dust deposition results for June range from 0.1 g/m2/month to 11.8

g/m2/month.

Awaba Colliery development consent contains the following limit criteria for dust;

Annual average maximum total deposited dust level of 4 g/m2/month.

Maximum increase in Annual Average deposited dust level, 2 g/m2/month.

The rolling annual average for each of the dust gauges in June 2015 are shown in Table 4 and Figure 2 below.

NOISE MONITORING

Attended noise monitoring is undertaken quarterly in accordance with the Awaba Colliery Project Approval. A noise

monitoring survey was conducted between the 9th & 11th of June 2015 at two monitoring locations (Noise Sensitive

Receivers) surrounding the Awaba Colliery operations.

The results of the environmental noise compliance assessment conducted between the 9th & 11th of June 2015

indicated noise levels generated by the Awaba Colliery were compliant with the applicable noise criteria at all rural /

residential monitoring locations during day, evening and night periods.

The next round of noise monitoring is planned to be undertaken in August 2015.

COMPLAINTS

There were no community complaints during the month regarding Awaba Colliery.
