Urban Infill Gallery
The Urban Infill is the design of an art gallery in one of the art districts in Chicago. The creation of the building was prioritized to pay consideration to the different lighting conditions that pieces of art would require, primarily allowing for different allotments of natural light to enter the space.
The structure was created as a sanctuary from the rigidity of the city, to bring one to a building that not only hosted art, but was sculptural in itself. The Urban Infill was based on the curves of a canyon, to mimic the form the rock had taken from the movement of water through it.
The design allowed for natural light to flood the space, creating a sense of warmth, and intrigue as the shadows would create patterns within the structure.

Riparian Elementary
Riparian zone: The area between land and a river, or stream.
The objective of the Riparian Elementary was to design a primary school and kindergarten on the site of Kern Park. The school was created as a poetic connection between the indoors and the outdoors, and to become a structure that is fully integrated into the landscape.
The school is situated inside a hill, which creates a multi-level riparian zone. Each classroom blossoms out of the hill and has access to walkable green space on the roofs and directly into Kern Park. The green spaces on the roof offer areas for education and play.
The design of the primary school and kindergarten uses elements of sustainable design. Such elements are seen through the use of green roofs, operable windows (for natural ventilation), and use of natural lighting (with skylights and open corridors).

Field Narratives
The creation of this project was to assist the Milwau-kee Bonsai Society in generating ideas for a future bonsai garden. The garden would house and display 10-15 bonsai, would require room for expansion, and needed to be integrated within the sculpture garden.
The proposal created a sequence of movements/individual spaces, that would allow guests to move freely through the bonsai garden and the sculpture garden. To entice curiosity, each space was de-signed to allow views to the other spaces; which in turn allowed views of the bonsais from multipledirections. The views would also return ones gaze to the Lynden Scultpture Garden as well.
The design used recycled barn wood (donated from Lynden), solar panels, and a condensed footprint (to decrease environmental impact). Geometric screens were designed to house the bonsai, provide shade, and create shadow patterns.

Material Study
To create a material that is both unique and beau-tiful. The material study goes through a process of combining materials or changing a material in such a way that it is no longer recognizable as its origi-nal material. The material that was developed was concrete, used in combination with aluminum and cardboard forms. The final product was designed to be used as a backdrop wall for bonsai trees.

Masonry Study
The object of this study was to design a detailed section of a masonry wall, which uses standard bricks in a innovative way.
The design is of a perforated brick screen instead of a brick wall in order allow natural ventilation and light. The bricks are staggered, starting with narrow gaps that become progressively wider. The mason-ry wall is supported by cross-sectional steel beams and I-beams.
The masonry wall is an addition to a proposed public market, creating an outdoor semi-enclosed space. The space uses an angled glass roof to provide rain protection, and allow for the passage of natural light.
