NARRATOR:OnthedaythatJesuscamebacktolife,twoofhisdisciplesleftJerusalem.TheytravelledtowardsthevillageofEmmaus.EmmauswasaboutsevenmilesfromJerusalem.Itwouldtakethedisciplestwohourstowalktothevillage.WhiletheywerewalkingtheytalkedaboutwhathadhappenedtoJesus.TheydidnotknowyetthatJesushadcomebacktolife.

‘CLEOPAS’and‘hisFRIEND’pretendtotalkaboutwhathadhappenedinJerusalem

NARRATOR:AstheytalkedJesuscameuptothem.Hewalkedbesidethem.Thedisciplesdidnotrecognizehim.

JESUS:Whatareyoutalkingabout?

NARRATOR:Thedisciplesstoppedwalking.

CLEOPAS:AreyoujustvisitingJerusalem?

FRIEND:Doyounotknowwhathashappenedthereinthelastfewdays?

NARRATOR:Jesuswantedtohearthedisciplestalk–hewantedtohearwhattheyknew.ThedisciplestoldJesusallthattheyunderstood.

CLEOPAS:Wearesodisappointedandconfused.

FRIEND:WehadhopedJesuswasgoingtosavetheJewishpeople…

CLEOPAS:buthedied…

FRIEND:andnowsomesayhisbodyisn’tinthetomb.

NARRATOR:InakindwayJesustoldthedisciplestheyhadbeenfoolish.

JESUS:YouhavebeenslowtobelievewhattheProphetssaid.

NARRATOR:ThenJesusstartedatthebeginningandexplainedallthethingsthathadbeenwrittenabouthim.WhentheycameclosetothevillageofEmmaus,Jesuswaitedforthedisciplestoinvitehimtostaywiththem.

CLEOPAS:Pleasestaywithus

FRIEND:It’snearlytheendoftheday.

NARRATOR:Jesusandthediscipleswentintoahouse.Theysatdownatatable.

NARRATOR:Jesusandthediscipleswentintoahouse.Theysatdownatatable.Jesustookthebread,saidaprayerof‘thanks’,brokeitandbegangivingittothem.

‘JESUS’praysoversomebread,breakitandshareitwithhisdisciplesNARRATOR:Suddenlythedisciplesrecognizedhim.AssoonastheyrealizedwhoJesuswas,hedisappeared.ThedisciplestalkedabouthowtheyfeltwhenJesuswastalking.

CLEOPAS:Ourheartsfeltasiftheywere…

FRIEND:…burninginsideus?

NARRATOR:ImmediatelytheygotupandwentbacktoJerusalem.WhentheyarrivedbackinJerusalemtheotherdisciplesweretalkingaboutJesus.

CLEOPAS&FRIEND:TheLordhasrisen!

2.Carefullycolorinthethreepeopleonyourdiscs.ThetwopeoplerepresentthedisciplesandthemanonhisownrepresentsJesus.Cutoutyourdiscs.

3.Stickthetwodiscsback-to-back.Makesure‘Jesus’isstandingtherightwayupandthedisciplesareupsidedown.Holdthediscsfirmlytogetherasthegluestartstodry.

4.Cuttwopiecesofstringapproximately60cminlength.Tietheendsofthestringtomaketwoloops.

5.Foldapieceofstickytapeovertheedgeofthedisccoveringthetwocircles.Punchtwoholesinthediscusingthecirclesasmarkers.Threadthestringthroughtheholesasshowninthepicture.

6.Oncethestringissecuretryoutyourspinningtoy.Holdthetwoendsofthestringwiththepictureofthetwodisciplesfacingyou.Askafriendtowindyourtoybyturningthediscoverandoveruntilthestringistwistedonitself.Askyourfriendtoletgo.Gentlypullonthetwoendsofthestringsothatitunwinds.AsthediscspinsthetwopictureswillappearasoneandJesuswillbestandingbetweenthedisciples.
