BRIEF SKETCHE OF LIFE AND WORK OF

“MR. RAJANIKANT PURUSHOTTAM SHROFF”

Chairman, Chinchani Tarapur Education Society-

Chinchani, Dist-Palghar

Mr. Rajanikant Shroff was born in the prosperous „Vaishnav

Gujrati Family‟ in Chinchani, Dist-Palghar in the year 1936.

Mr. Rajanikant is the B.E. in Chemical Engineering of Mumbai

University. Mr. Rajanikant is influenced by Gandhiji‟s principles from

the early age of youth. While learning he started “JAN SEVA” in village

like Chinchani and surrounding area of hundred or odd villages thickly

populated by adivasi from remote area of Dahanu and Palghar Taluka.

In the year 1957 Mr. Rajanikant established “Gram Seva Sangh”,

Adult Education, Village health projects, telephone services, Tar road

and mainly health- Surgery-camps and village sanitation as well as

„Gram-Cleanliness Campaign and implemented the strategy for the

uplift of woman and welfare of the children.

Mr. Shroff‟s Dream is to enlighten the every child of village to

attain more and more education, technology to prove themselves the

ideal citizens of developing India so as to compete with those of

developed countries.

Mr. Rajanikant had established one P.L. Shroff Hostel at Borivali

(West), Mandpeshwar Road accommodating 25- 30 students from the

poor community of villages‟ surrounding Dahanu and Palghar area in

the year 1962. These students coming from below poverty line (BPL)

poor family who could not afford to attain the higher education. They

were benefitted by this facility provided by Mr. Rajanikant Shroff.

It is because of his utter determination to spread and expand the

education hut to hut, he was elected unanimously to the glorious post

of “Chairman” of the Chinchani Tarapur Education Society, Chinchani

in the year of 1966.

Thus his dream was accomplished by establishing of the 6

Institutions to impart Education to the needy and poor community from

„K. G. to P. G.‟ with the strength of teaching and non- teaching staff

numbering near about 200 who are imparting the training to the 7000

& odd students.

Thus the efforts of Mr. Rajanikant are nothing but to fulfill the

dream of Gadhiji to literate villages of India and to lead towards the

„self reliance‟.

The child of today is our most treasured possession. So, let‟s

work together for their optimum progress and development. Let us

keep in mind that we, as parents and teacher play a vital role in

molding the feature of a strong nation.
