Applications:MARINE APPLICATIONSOn board a ship, compressed air is used for several purposes. On the basis of application, different air compressors are kept for a particular usage. Normally, air compressors on board ships are:

Main air compressor

Emergency air compressor

WORKING PRINCIPLENumber of stages (single-stage, 2-stage and multi-stage),Cooling method and medium (Air cooled, water cooled and oil-cooled),Drive types ( Engine driven, Motor driven, Turbine driven, Belt, chain, gear or direct coupling drives),Lubrication method (Splash lubricated or forced lubrication or oil-free compressors).Service Pressure (Low, Medium, High)Classification ofAxial flow compressors

Thesuction surface(a.k.a. upper surface) is generally associated with higher velocity and lower static pressure.Thepressure surface(a.k.a. lower surface) has a comparatively higher static pressure than the suction surface. The pressure gradient between these two surfaces contributes to the lift force generated for a given airfoil. The geometry of the airfoil is described with a variety of terms:Theleading edgeis the point at the front of the airfoil that has maximum curvature (minimum radius).[7]Thetrailing edgeis defined similarly as the point of maximum curvature at the rear of the airfoil.Thechord lineis the straight line connecting leading and trailing edges. Thechord length, or simplychord, , is the length of the chord line. That is thereference dimensionof the airfoil section.
