WhattheDrinkingWaterPurifierWillDo

The4000NanotechnologyCertifiedUnderCounterFiltrationSystemisawaterpurificationtreatmentsystem.Thissystemusesatriplefilterdesigntoreduceunwantedelementsinyourdrinkingwater.Possibleelementsmayincludechlorine,lead,virus,bacteria,cysts,particulatesandnumerousorganiccompounds.

The4000NanotechnologyCertifiedUnderCounterFiltrationSystemutilizesthepatentedNanoandothertechnologiesinasystematicapproachtoensurethewatersupplyconformstoEPAGuideStandardfortheremovalof99.9999%Bacteria,99.99%Viruses,and99.95%Cysts.The4000NanotechnologyCertifiedUnderCounterFiltrationSystemisdesignedtodiscontinuewaterflowwhenitscapabilitytofilterunwantedelementshasbeenexhausted.Thiswillhelpsafeguardtheconsumeragainstcontaminatedwater.Replaceallfiltersevery12monthsor1000gallons.

NOTE:Aperformancedatasheetisincludedandlistswhatelementswillbereducedfromthewatersupply.(Pleasenotethatnotallelementsmaybepresent.)Thisdatasheetliststheindividualcontaminantsandmicrobialreductionperformance.

Thedrinkingwaterpurifiersystemisdesignedtofitunderthekitchenorbathroomsinkoranyotherareathatissuitable.ACOLDwatersupplypipeisrequiredwithinafewfeet.Ifwatersupplypipeisfartherthanwhatthetubewillreach,youcanpurchaselongerlengthsoftubingfromyourlocalhomeimprovementcenter.

NOTE:Makesurethetubingisacceptableforuseonpotablewatersupplies.

BeforeYouStart

v Inordertoreceiveallofthebenefitsofyourmicrobiologicaldrinkingwaterpurifier,besuretoreadallstepsinthisguidecarefullyandfollowstepsexactly.

v Thissystemisintendedforusewithmunicipaland/orwell-suppliedwateronly.Itisnotintendedforusewithsurfacewatersuchasfromalakeorrunoff.

v Donotuseforthetreatmentofwaterthatisvisuallycontaminated(cloudy)orhasanobviouscontaminationsource,suchascontaminationbyrawsewage.

v Systemscertifiedforcystreductionmaybeusedondisinfectedwatersthatmaycontainfilterablecysts.v Systemisnotintendedtoconvertwastewaterorrawsewageintodrinkingwater.v Installationandplumbingshouldcomplywithalllocallawsandregulations.Consultwithyourlicensedplumber.

Precautions

• Thissystemisfor“coldwater”useonly.• Protectfiltersagainstfreezing,whichcancausecrackingofthefilterandwaterleakage.• TherubberO-ringprovidesthewater-tightsealbetweenthecapandthebottomofthehousing.Itisimportantthatthe

O-ringbeproperlyseatedinthegroovebelowthethreadsofthehousingorawaterleakcouldoccur.• Topreventcostlyrepairsorpossiblewaterdamage,thesumpofplastichousingsmustbereplacedeverytenyears.Ifsumpis

Step1–InstallingtheSaddleValve

Useofacordlessdrillisrecommended.Toprotectyourselffromseriousinjuryorfatalshockwhenusinganelectricdrill,besurethedrillandtheoutletitispluggedintoareproperlygrounded.Whenusingadrill,followthemanufacturer’sguidelinesandprocedures.NOTE:Saddlevalvemustbeinstalledona2-inch(51mm)long,straight-walledsectionof

3/8-inchto7/8-inch(10-22mm)steel,brass,copper,orPVCpipea) Turnoffcoldwatersupplyandturnonnearestfaucetbeforestartinginstallation.

Placeatrayortowelsunderthecoldwaterlinetocatchexcesswater.b) Drilla1/8-inch(3mm)holeinthecoldwaterline.Removeanyburrswithsandpaper

orfile.c) Turnhandleonthesaddlevalvetoexposelancenomorethan3/16-inch(5mm)

aboveblackrubbergasket.d) Placevalvebodyoverholeincoldwaterlinesolancefitsintohole.e) Attachbackplateofclampandtightenboltsevenlyandfirmlysobracketsareparallel.f) Turnvalvehandleclockwisetoclosedpositionandleavecloseduntilinstallationiscompete.

InstallationInstructions

Step2–SelectingtheFaucetLocation

NOTE:Thedrinkingwaterfaucetshouldbepositionedwithfunction,convenience,andappearanceinmind.Anadequateflatareaisrequiredtoallowfaucetbasetorestsecurely.Thefaucetfitsthrougha3/4-inch(19mm)hole.Mostsinkshavepre-drilled1-inch(35or38mm)diameterholesthatmaybeusedforfaucet.

a) Linebottomofsinkwithnewspapertopreventmetalshavings,parts,ortoolsfromfallingdowndrain.

b) Placemaskingtapeovertheareatobedrilledtopreventscratchesifdrillbitslips.IMPORTANT:Toavoiddamagingthesink,consultaqualifiedplumberorinstallerfordrillingproceduresinporcelain,granite,orstainlesssteel.

c) Markholewithcenterpunch.Usea1/4-inch(6mm)drillbitforapilothole,then,usinga3/4-inch(13mm)drillbitorholesaw,drillaholecompletelythroughthesink.Smoothroughedgeswithafile.

Step3–MountingtheFauceta) Removewingnut(C)andmetalwasher(B)fromthethreadedshaftofthefaucet.Leave

theblackrubberwasher(A)onthethreadedshaft.b) Slidethethreadedshaftofthefaucetintodrilledhole.c) Fromunderthesink,slidethemetalwasheronandthreadonthewingnut.

Tightenwingnutbyhanduntiltight.Itmaybenecessarytohaveasecondpersonholdthefaucetwhiletighteningthewingnut.

d) Installthefaucetspoutintothebasebypushingfirmlyintoholeinbasethenscrewfittingcoverhandtight.

Caution:Donotover-tightenthewingnut.Handtightenonly.Donotusepliersorwrenchtotighten.Step4–Mountingthesystem

a) Centersystembetweenwatersupplyadapteranddrinkingwaterfaucet.NOTE:Allow1.5inches(38mm)clearancebelowsystemtoenablefiltercartridgechanges.

NOTE:Inthefollowingstep,leaveenoughspace(approximately1/2-inch(13mm))betweentheheadofthescrewandthewalltoeasilyslipsystemintoplace.

b) Installmountingscrewsatleast15-inches(380mm)fromcabinetfloorand91/4-inches(235mm)apart.Placesystemoverscrewsonwallandslidesideways.Tightenscrews.

Caution:Makecertainsystemisfirmlyattachedtowalltopreventpossibledamagefromfalling.

Step5–ConnectingTubingtotheFaucetCaution:Donotover-tightencompressionnut.Usecautionnottobendorcrimptubeswhensecuring.

a) Locatecompressionnutininstallationkitandfaucetpackage.b) Attachcompressionnutpieces(3)tooneendoftubing.

Caution:Tubemustbefullyinsertedinthecompressionfittingbasetothetubestoponthefaucetstem.

c) Attachtubewithcompressionnutassemblytofaucetstembyinsertingtubeintothefaucetstemopening.Gentlypushthetubinguntilitcomestoastop.

NOTE:Allnutsmustberetightenedwhenthesystemreachesprojectedoperatingtemperature.

InstallationInstructions

Step6–AttachingTubetoEffectiveLifeIndicator(ELI)a) DeterminethelengthoftubingneededfromthefaucettotheELI.Aslightsaginthe

linewillallowforsomeeaseininstallation.Cutthetubingtorequiredlength.b) Insertotherendoftubingfirmlyintotheoutletport(JohnGuest®fitting)oftheELI

untilfullyengaged.c) Pulltubegentlytoensurethetubingisfullyseated.

Caution:TubemustbefullyinsertedinthecompressionfittingbaseontheoutletstemoftheELI.

Step7–ConnectingtheSaddleValvea) Determinethelengthofplastictubingneededtoconnecttheinlet(left)sideofthefilter

withthesaddlevalve.Besuretoallowenoughtubingtopreventkinkingandcutthetubingsquarely.Slidebrasscompressionnutontotubing,followedbyplasticferrule.Thelongtaperedendoftheferruleshouldfacetowardstheendofthetubing.Placeinsertintotubing.

b) Inserttubingintosaddlevalveandhand-tightencompressionnut.Usingawrench,tightennut1to1½turns.

NOTE:Allnutsmustberetightenedwhenthesystemreachesprojectedoperatingtemperature.

Step8–ConnectingInletLinetoSystema) Insertotherendoftubingfirmlyintoinletport(JohnGuest®fitting)untilfullyengaged.b) Pulltubegentlytoensurethetubingisfullyseated.

Step9–SettingtheEffectiveLifeIndicatorNOTE:Theeffectivelifeindicatoristhewhitediallocatedonthecenterofthe

mountingbracket. Eachblackmarkonthedialrepresents100gallons(378.5L).a) Movethedialclockwisesothattheblackindicatorarrowlinesupwiththe1100gallon

(4,164L)mark.Important:Setflowmeterto1100gallonsaftereachnewfilterreplacement.NOTE:Topreventindicatormalfunctions,onlymovethedialwhenthesystemisdepressurized.

Step10–PuttingtheSystemintoOperationa) Slowlyturnoncoldwatersupply.b) Rotatehandleonbaseofdrinkingwaterfaucetcounter-clockwiseto“ON”position.

Allowwatertorunfor10minutestoflushairandcarbonfinesfromfiltercartridges.Checksystemforleaksbeforecompletinginstallation.

c) Makesurethatallnutsaretightened.NOTE:Adrinkingwatercartridgemaycontaincarbonfines(veryfineblackpowder).Itisrecommendedthatyourunthetapatleast20secondspriortousingwaterfordrinkingorcookingpurposes.NOTE:Initially,filteredwatermayappearcloudy.Ifyousetaglassofwateronalevelsurface,youshouldbeabletowatchthecloudinessdisappearfromthebottomoftheglassupwards.Thisharmlesscloudinessresultsfromthereleaseoftrappedairwiththecartridgeandwilldisappearwithinafewweeksafterinstallation.

INSTALLATIONISNOWCOMPLETE.

NOTE: Based on the settings sensitivity of the Effective Life Indicator (ELI), user should set the ELI to 1,100 gallons to assure a 1,000 gallon cycle.

FilterCartridges

FilterCartridgeLife

Itisrecommendedtoreplace filter cartridges every 12 months or 1,000 gallons ofuse.However,yourwaterqualitycanleadtocircumstancessuchasdiminishedwaterflow,visiblesediment,orunwantedtasteand/orodorinyourwater,requiringthecartridgesbereplacedsooner.

NOTE: Based on the settings sensitivity of the Effective Life Indicator (ELI), user should set the ELI to 1,100 gallons to assure a 1,000 gallon cycle.

Thereareseveralvariablesthatdeterminehowlongacartridgewilllast.Theseinclude:

1. Howmuchwateryouuse,and2. Howmuchsediment,chlorine,orotherunwantedsubstancesisinthewater.

FilterCartridgeReplacement

NOTE:Contactyoursystemsupplierforreplacementfilterparts.

1. Turnoffcoldwatersupplytosystemandturnonfaucettoreleasepressure.NOTE:Due to water leakage, place pan or towel under sump.

2. Unscrewandremovebottomoffilterhousing.LocateandremovelargeO-ring,wipecleanoflubricant,andsetaside. Repeatforsecondandthirdhousings.

3. Discardusedfiltercartridges.

Caution: Read "WARNING" information on the bleach container before using.

4. Usinganon-abrasivespongeorcloth,scrubthebottomofeachhousing,O-ringgrooves,andcapswithdishsoapand warmwater.Rinsethoroughly.Thenfillbottomofeachhousing1/3fullwithwater.Add1TBSP(14.7ML)of householdbleachandscrubtodisinfect.

5. LubricateO-ringswithcleansiliconegrease.InserteachO-ringingrooveandpressintoplace.NOTE:Thisstepisimportanttoensureaproperhousingseal.MakecertaineachO-ringisseatedlevelinitsgrooveor aleakmayoccur.

6. Screwbottomofhousing(s)withbleachwaterontocap(s)withoutfiltercartridge(s)andhand-tighten.DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN.

7. Turnonwatersupply.Letfaucetrunforabout10seconds,thenturnofffaucetandletstandfor20-30minutes.8. Turnonfaucetandallowbleachwatertorunout(about3-5minutes)9. Turnoffwatersupplytosystem.Removebottomofhousingsandemptyoutwater.10. Inserteachfiltercartridgeinbottomofappropriatefilterhousing.

IMPORTANT:Be sure to remove any protective covering from the filters before inserting.11. Screwbottomofhousing(s)ontocap(s)andhand-tighten.DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN.Makecertaincapstandpipeslips

intocartridge(s).

12. Reseteffectivelifeindicatorto1,100gallons(seeinstructionunder“SettingEffectiveLifeIndicator”onPage6.)13. Turnonwatertosystem.Letfaucetrunfor10minutestoremovetrappedairandcarbonfines.Checksystemfor

leaks.

system.Removebottomofhousing.CleanO-ringgroove(locateddirectlybeneaththreadsofhousing).LubricateO-ringwithsiliconegreaseandreplacesecurelyintogroove.Screwbottomofhousingontocapandhand-tighten.DONOTOVER-TIGHTEN.Turnonwatersupplyandcheckforleaks

Problem: Leaksonsysteminlet/outletconnections Correction: Turnoffwatersupplyandturnondrinkingwaterfaucettoreleasepressureinsystem.Removetubingfromfittingandmakesureendoftubingiscutsquarelyandfreeofburrs.Reinserttubingintofitting,makingsuretopushtubingtoahardstop.Hand-tightencompressionnutfirst,thentighten1to11/2turnsfornewcompressionnut.Tightenonly1/2to1turnwithwrenchforpreviouslytightenedcompressionnut.NOTE:Ifleakspersist,orifthereareotherleaksinsystem,turnoffwatersupply.

Problem: Leaksonfaucet/tubingconnection Correction: Turnoffwatersupplyandturnondrinkingwaterfaucettoreleasepressureinsystem.Loosenandremovecompressionnutfittingonfaucetstem.Makesuretubingisinsertedfirmlyintoendoffaucetstem,thenretightencompressionnutwithfingersuntilsecure.Turnonsaddlevalve,andthenturnofffaucettocheckforleaks.NOTE:Ifleakspersist,orifthereareotherleaksinsystem,turnoffwatersupply.

Problem: Nowaterordecreasedwaterflow. Correction: Checkflowatfaucet.The4000NanotechnologyCertifiedUnderCounterFiltrationSystemsystemshouldfillagallonjuginapproximately2minutes.Flowrateswillvarywithindividualhouseholdwaterpressure.

Correction: Checkfiltercartridgeinstallation.Makecertainallfiltercartridgesareproperlyorientedinfilterhousings.

Correction: Replacefiltercartridges.
