B-Grade Basketball: Plays and Strategies

I know this seems a bit try hard, but as I said, I want to win. Keeping this and reading it time to time will be highly appreciated, and it will help you memories these plays. And hopefully we can run through these in training sessions.

1) Benjee (I don’t know if it’s spelt like this)

This shows the movement of where each player goes. (The rotation can happen the other way. Point guard decides which way he wants to go)

Center and Powerfoward set screens if the defender follows SG/PF (off-ball screen)

This shows the movement of the ball, after everyone has moved. Reaming still, we pass the ball across the outside, for the last receiver (either small forward or shooting guard) to be open.

You can make two choices from here:

Shoot the jumper Drive Pass to the inside

Point Guard: Swings the ball to the top, then get ready to box out his nearest man

Small Forward: Receive the pass from the PG, than swing it to the other guard who should be open. If you think a defender may steal it, don’t need to force the pass.

Shooting Guard: Receives the Pass and goes for the point, or pass it inside

Power Forward: May receive pass, if not, Give space for Guard, and get ready to box out for rebound

Center: Boxes out for Rebound

2) Bait / Barney (Only works against Zone)

This shows the movement of the players. This happens in a particular order, rather than simultaneously (But of course, do this quickly)

1) PG calls ‘bait’ OUT LOUD. =D PF sets the screen for PG, allowing the PG to drive in. 2) When the screen is done, The SF moves to the corner (does not have to be outside the

three, but be relatively far)3) Two things can happen:

The defender in the paint comes towards the PG -> PASS to SF

In this case, let’s assume PG decides to go left.

PG can be open for a layup, or can pass to C if necessary4) The SG, as soon as the screen is set, moves to the free throw line5) Two Options for the SF if he is passed the ball by PG

Fast Pass to SG who is on the free throw line (if SF is not open), who shoots

Shoot the jumper

Sorry if it looks like it’s cramped, it’s just that I made the circles too big.

C/PF get ready to rebound.

Guards Box out, Rebound, or get ready to sprint back to defense.

3) Trampoline (Against Man to Man/Press Defense)

Movement shown above. The C/PF who is on the same side of the cutter screens at the top of the key, while the other screens at the bottom.

Point Guard: Switch positions with the cutter, then passes it to the top when the cutter has reached under the basket (still running)

Small Forward: Cuts to the top and receives the pass

Shooting Guard: Cuts to the top then through the middle, making sure to run through teammates screens efficiently for a good screen to be set (since C/PF can’t move while giving a screen)

Cut baseline, back to the open space where the SF/PG was

Power Forward: Strong Screen, then gets ready to rebound

Center: Strong Screen, Then gets ready to rebound

PFPossible both sides.

Let’s assume that the PG decides to go left.

If the Shooting Guard is still marked, we can swing it from SG to SF to PG extremely quickly. Always look for the open spots for passes and shots. Fakes are always nice!

This is where everyone should be after the play has been completed.

We really need to work on defense by the way guys
