$2,500 Open Hunter Classic August 7 | October 9 | November 20
All competitors will compete in the first round over a course of at least ten fences at 2'6" in height with up to four higher height options of 2'9"-2'11". The first round will be judged on performance, hunter pace, jumping style, quality and substance, and movement. Once the judge’s score is given, one point will be added for each high option fence jumped.
At the conclusion of the first round, the top 10 riders will be invited back for a “pick-your-line” handy round. Riders must create and ride a course of six to nine fences, selecting the handy elements that they feel will best demonstrate the strengths of their horse. The second round will be judged on performance, hunter-pace, jumping-style, quality and substance, and movement. The course may include up to four
higher height option fences of 2'9"-2'11". All jumps, including those that were part of a high option in the first round, are considered individual fences and may be jumped as such (meaning if there was a high option for a jump in the first round, and you would normally only jump one of the options in the first round, you may jump both in the handy round and have it considered as two fences). Once the judge’s score is given, one point will be added for each high option fence jumped. All fences in the second round are to be jumped at normal canter pace unless a different gait is specifically noted on the course map.
The combined score from round one and round two will determine overall score and placement in the class.Note: Open Hunter Classic will not count for USEF points.

Entries into and scratches from any special classes should be conducted in the horse show office by 5:00 p.m. the day before to avoid any Add/Scratch Fees or forfeiture of your entry fee. Entries made after this time will be considered “same day” and will only be accepted if the schedule is not full. All same day entries must go first in the order, regardless of when the order is drawn. Scratches made after this time are considered “same day” and will be addressed as follows: Unless otherwise specified, same day adds will incur a fee of $25 and same day scratches will forfeit the class entry fee unless due to an injury to horse or ride and a vet certificate (from the official horse show veterinarian only) or medical release (from the official horse show medical personnel only) is presented to the office at the time of the scratch. Classes with less than six (6) entries at 5:00 p.m. the day before may be canceled or combined at management’s discretion. As per USEF rules, hunter classics with less than six entries must be combined with other like classics to make six or more to count, or they may be run with no points or canceled entirely.
Rosé Hack & Splash Held at Rosé in May each year, competitors will be given a GoVino wine to hold during the class. All cups have been evenly filled with liquid. You will be worked by the judge at the walk, trot and canter. Following the flat phase, riders will be asked to line up and then will be directed by the judge to complete a line of two fences set at 2'. Any rider that does not make reasonable effort to complete the directions of the judge will be disqualified. At the completion of the class, two riders will be selected as winners in separate categories. There is a judge’s choice based on ability to execute the directions of the judge and there is a winner for the competitor with the most liquid still remaining in his/her cup.
Pumpkin Power, Plop & SpeedHeld at Paso Pumpkins & Ponies each year, following USEF Table II, Section 2d (with some trick-or-treat creativity), competitors will compete over a jumper-style course set at 0.90m. The first round will be held over 8-10 fences with only faults noted. The second-round timer will begin immediately after crossing the finish line of the first round. Competitors must drop at least one piece of candy into each of the four jack-o-lanterns before continuing on to the jump-off elements. The jump-off course will be 6-8 fences. Faults from both rounds will count, followed by consideration of speed in the second round.
Turkey Trot Your Own LineHeld at Turkey Trot & Jump each year, this class is conducted in accordance with USEF rules JP 149.1 for Special Classes Gambler’s Choice at a height of .80m – 1.00m. Following the tone from the judge, competitors will cross the indicated start line in either direction and will have 60 seconds to complete a course of their choosing in an effort to secure the greatest number of points. Obstacles will be marked on a course map with varied points available for each obstacle if cleared successfully. At the completion of the 60 seconds, the judge will sound a tone to indicate the end of the round, no jumps after the sound of the tone will be included in the competitor’s score. Following the first round, the competitor must cross the finish line to stop the clock; in the case of a tied number of points, the lowest time will break the tie. Each obstacle may be jumped twice respecting the directions indicated by flags and on the map; however, jumping an obstacle that has been knocked down or more than twice will result in disqualification. Set at 3' is one “Turkey” (a.k.a. Joker) fence offered in the course that must be completed at the trot in the indicated direction; if a competitor breaks gate to the canter more than two strides in front of the Turkey fence, the points will not be counted. The competitor with the greatest number of points wins. In the event of a tie for number of points, the final time will be considered.
Hunter ClassicsUnless specified otherwise, the final round over fences in each section is to count as the first round of the respective Classic. All hunter rounds will be scored under the open numerical judging system. If a horse is not present for either the first or second round of a classic, that horse will receive a zero score in that round. Scores will be totaled from both the first and second round to determine the winners. All overall ties will be broken by using second round scores. Classes 500 and 501 the Junior/Am Hunter Classics and 502 the Child/Adult Hunter Classic will not be eligible for Horse of the Year bonus points.
Park MedalHosted at both the Paso Robles Horse Park Schooling Show Series and the Paso Robles Horse Park USEF B-Rated Show Series, the Park Medal features fences not to exceed 3' in height. A minimum of two riders must complete the course in order for the round to qualify for points. The top four riders (if available) in the class may be asked to work off at the judge’s discretion. Tests may include USEF medal tests 1-17. This class is open to all junior and amateur riders. Riders may not cross enter in the Park Green Rider Medal.
Finals of the 2020 Park Medal will be held at the Turkey Trot & Jump show. Points from the first three schooling shows of the current year and the B-Rated shows of the current year are eligible to qualify a rider for the Finals. Points are to be awarded as follows: 1st – 7 points, 2nd – 5 points, 3rd - 4 points, 4th – 3 points, 5th – 2 points, 6th – 1 point. Riders with 7 points or more are invited to participate in the PRHP medal final.
