Order made underTHE ROAD TRAFFIC ORDINANCE (CAP. 184

OF THE LAWS OF NIGERIA)

Commencement : 15th September, 1960_ Inexercise of the powers conferred by-section 11 of the Road TrafficOrdinance, the following Order is hereby madeby the Lagos Town Council.

1, (¢) This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Control of Traffic)(Lagos) Order, 1960.

'* (@) This Order applies to the Town of Lagos.

2. The Road Traffic (Control of Traffic) (Lagos) Order 1959 published in _the Federation of Nigeria Official Gazette as Legal Notice No. 143 of 1959is hereby revoked.

3. The use of the streets enumerated inthe first column of the First_ Schedule is hereby restricted as specified in the second column of the

Schedule. :

4, The driving or propelling ofvehicles in any of the streets specified inthe first column of the Second Schedule is hereby prohibited otherwise thanin the directions specified in the second columnof the Schedule.

5. Vehicles other than suburban buses intending to wait along thestreetsshownin the first column of the Third Schedule may be parked only on thesides of the streets and or on the days specified in the second column of theSchedule. .

6. The stopping places for suburban, non-suburban, school children’sbuses and Stage Carriages shall be as specified in the Fourth Schedule.

7. No person shall operate or cause to be operated any stage or hackneycarriage or any commercial vehicle in the town of Lagos save under and. in accordance with the conditions of a permit issued by the Lagos TownCouncil.

8. Stage Carriages operating between the town of Lagos and elsewheremay use only theroutes specified in the Fifth Schedule.

9. Theparking ofstage carriages in any street or open space in the town ofLagos is hereby prohibited. otherwise than in the places specified in theSixth Schedule, exceptthe condition of their licences provides otherwise.

10. The parking of hackney carriages in any street or open space in thetown of Lagos is hereby prohibited otherwise than in the places specified inthe Seventh Schedule.

11.. The sounding of horns or other similar appliances fitted to motor or .other vehicles is hereby prohibited intheplaces and duringthe hours specifiedin the Eighth Schedule. wo :

12. The roads specified in the Ninth Schedule are hereby declared majorroads. : “

13. The parking of vehicles is hereby prohibited in the places specified inthe Tenth Schedule. ; :

14, Where five or more people are waiting to board any stage catriege,vehicle or bus such people shall form a queue in the orderof their arrival andshall board the stage carriage, vehicle or bus in that order.

15. The use of Handcarts (Omolanke) on the Carter Bridge and DentonCauseway is hereby prohibited between thehours specified in the EleventhSchedule. -

16. No Handcart (Omolanke) shall carry loads exceeding the maximumweight specified in the Licence. .

17. No person shall operate or cause to be operated in.the town of Lagosany handcart (Omolanke) without a licence duly issued by the Lagos TownCouncil, o

The Municipal Motor Parks (Fees) Bye-Laws 1960

Commencement : 15th September, 1960

In exercise ofthepowers conferred uponthe Lagos Town Council by section142 of the Lagos Local GovernmentOrdinance, 1959, the following Bye-lawsare madewith the approval of the Governor-General in Council:—

1. ‘These Bye-laws may be cited as the Municipal Motor Parks (Fees)Bye-laws and shall apply to the motor parks set out in the First Schedule tothese Bye-laws,

- 2. In these Bye-laws— 1

“attendant” means any person appointed as such by the Lagos TownCouncil;

“bus” or “lorry” includes any motor vehicle over 59 cwt. gross weight;

- “driver” includes the owner of a motor vehicle and any person in chargethereof;

“motor car” means any motér vehicle below 59 cwt. gross weight ;

“motor vehicle” means any mechanically propelled vehicle intended |and adapted for use on toads ;;

_ “municipal motor park” means any of the motor parks to which theseBye-lawe apply. o

3. (1) Every driver who parks his motor vehicle or waits in such motor- vehicle in a municipal motor park shall on entering therein pay to the attend-ant in charge thereof the appropriate fee set out in the Second Scheduleto these Bye-laws.

(2) All motor vehicles on entering a municipal motor parkshall be parkedin a manner indicated by the attendant, by notices or signs or by anyPolice Officer on duty.

4, The use of a municipal motor park by any motorvehicle shall be subjectto such conditions as may be printed on the receipt issued on the paymentof the appropriate fee aforesaid.
